Pizzeria In Santa Maria was right near where we parked, just inside the Lucca wall, so we chose it for lunch because of its convenience. We were glad we did as the pizza was delicious! We ordered two and both were amazing--I can't even choose a favorite. The service was also great and it was fun to people watch as people came and went up to bike the walls. Perfect lunch spot!

This place is just extraordinary ! It's an Tuscan restaurant located on top of a hills. Donât let the outside of this wonderful little pizzeria put you off. Walk through that dingy doorway, continue past the deli counter (which is pretty special In itâs own right) and into a lovely little restaurant in the back. The place is always full of locals which always tells me a lot about a place!They do some nice appetisers and a few pasta dishes and Secondi plates, but itâs the pizza that makes this place. With a huge pizza oven and probably 40 different pizzas on offer you canât go wrong. Our party of nine went twice on a recent holiday and both times we all came away really satisfied. We made the mistake of choosing a different place for our meal on our last night and we all regretted it!!A little tip, save yourself for pudding and walk just down the road to gelateria Sauro who do the most amazing gelatos!!

We were the first group to arrive for lunch on a rainy Sunday and were very pleased to have our table for six set up for our reservation. When the waiter came to take our order, we were surprised to discover that they donât serve pizza at lunch time! The food we ordered was delicious and it came promptly. But some of us had really wanted pizza and were disappointed not to be able to have it.

On a lazy hot Sunday we went a few miles up the road away from Lucca for lunch at a restaurant where we just had a ham roll and fizzy water; this was the Bar LâAlpino aka Torrefazione Giurlani di Valente (!) at Monsagrati on the via Camaiore. It was lovely to sit in the sun in the Italian countryside and just watch life roll by - we were amazed by the number of old white Fiat Pandas (the square one from the Nineties) still running around! Friendly unhurried service - just what you want on a hot day

Fab restaurant. Run by a hard working family that have make this a local institution. Tucked in the hills about 25 minutes from Lucca. Good range of meat and fish dishes, all local. Super friendly staff. Interior is smart, spacious. Posh vibe but you can dress informally. Used for wedding parties. Large balcony. Large parking lot.
