Ben and Mrs Too rarely order pizza out, greatly preferring to make our own at home. Back in this past winter, when our weather seemed to be coming straight from the north pole, we checked their website and found that Potomac Pizza offers quite an eclectic variety of items, and would deliver to our home at no cost. We tried, first, two calzoni, then two Italian subs (grinders, heroes, po’ boys, hoagies, whatever they are called in your neck of the woods) and thoroughly enjoyed both. This week, Ben had an appointment with the eye doctor, and Mrs Too suggested he stop by Potomac Pizza and bring home lunch, any lunch, “surprise me”, she said.Ben did as she asked, and the surprise turned out to be buffalo wings and onion rings. The wings were great, and the onion rings were even better. They offer only one version of buffalo wings, which turned out to be exactly right for us. Not scorching hot, but packing plenty of zip. This was the first time either of us had been in the store, and Ben was certainly impressed. There is plenty of seating in the dining room, and a good sized outdoor seating area. The kitchen is very well staffed, and food is brought out speedily, and quite hot.Visitors staying in the Friendship Heights area of Washington/ Bethesda will find Potomac Pizza directly across a service road from the Metro bus and subway station. There is something on their menu for everyone to enjoy on premises or to take back to the hotel. In all candor, Ben must advise that parking in the area is disgraceful. Ben doesn’t have a clue what management is trying to accomplish, but the former huge parking area now looks like an old WWII war zone. That has been going on for a long time now, with no end in sight. One can leave a companion off to order take out, but to count on being able to park is quite foolish.

Second time we go there and still not very much impressed by the food and the service. We ended there as other restaurants were full. They were able to accommodate 12 people. Food was served quickly but we had to request 4 times sparkling water. The bottle stayed far away from the table and we never got refilled by the waiter. Food was very average: very creamy, as if everything had been mixed. Any Italian going there will probably collapse At the end, the manager started to speak to us very loudly and we had to stop our conversation. He kept rambling about non interesting topics while we were keen to go back to our own conversation

Mia's Pizza

Reviewed By WheelsOnFire

I've enjoyed Mia's many times in the past, and always thought the food was inventive and well-prepared using top quality ingredients. The pizzas were clever and the lasagna was better than many home made versions I've had. But, things seemed to have changed. A recent visit did not live up to past experiences. Not even close.I tried the lasagna once again, which utilizes meatballs as the meat filling and promised a variety of cheeses and some nice sauce. The meatballs were there in abundance (a rather odd way of including meat in a lasagna), but there was little sauce, only a small amount of cheese, and it wasn't heated very well. Some spots were impressively hot -- others, well, let's just say that the chill had barely been taken off. Overall, extremely disappointing. My dining companion's eggplant parmigiana came across more as a casserole than the typical parmigiana (it actually looked similar to the aforementioned lasagna). Alas, it lacked many of the qualities one would expect of a properly prepared parmigiana. On the plus side, the white sangria was excellent. And service was very friendly and professional.Maybe it was an off night in the kitchen. Or maybe something has changed here. Either way, it wasn't the Mia's I have thoroughly enjoyed so many times in the past. I certainly hope that the Mia's of the past returns -- and I'll return for another visit soon in the hope that it has.

Two Amys

Reviewed By Mlindzy

I went here for lunch 2 weeks ago while in DC for work. My local colleague highly recommended it and he was right. The traditional pizzas were delicious (we ordered two) and authentic in style (thin crust with a bubbly edge) with fresh ingredients. We also ordered some cured anchovies, bread and butter as well as a little grilled asparagus and ramps appetizer. All were very tasty. If we had more time and less work to do, we would've ordered a bottle of Italian wine from their short but well-done list. The ambiance is "cafe casual" and we sat at the bar in the back area, and our bartender was very friendly and helpful with ordering.

While the ambience and service are lively and create a very traditional Italian atmosphere, the food itself is disappointing. Mediocre at best. We ordered a lasagna meal and another pasta meal. Both dinners lacked flavor and texture. The lasagna cheese was very mushy. The tomato sauce lacked flavor. The salad was fresh (very basic but best part of the meal ).We ordered sparkling wine but it was flat (and replaced by the waiter).Overall, a cheerful establishment that should look to improve the quality of its meals .

Comet Ping Pong

Something for everyone. We enjoy the Smokey pizza options and the variety of meat toppings ... kids can also get plain cheese, which keeps everyone happy. Salads are also tasty.Ranks poorly on the bang-for-buck scale. Food is good, though it's pricey for individual-sized pizzas.Three ping pong tables at the back of the restaurant are a nice way to kill time as you wait for a table to open. However, lines form for the ping pong tables as well, so it could have you flashing back to lines at Disney World. Budget accordingly (wallet and time) and grab a drink at the bar as the table-waits can routinely be 45 minutes at peak 7pm dining times.
