Our family absolutely loved horseback riding at Cades Cove Stables. Our kids, 9 and 7 years old, got smaller horses and were very comfortable. Helmets are required for kids and optional for adults. We arrived at the stables about 30 minutes before they opened and we were the first group there. The ride was about 1.5 hours. We saw deer and wild turkeys. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable, great with kids. I definitely recommend arriving early - it increases your chances to spot wildlife. Also, Cades Cove Stables don't take reservations and they do get busy.

Wild Laurel Golf Course

Rivaled in beauty, only by The Great Smoky National Park, the views available from every hole are reminiscent of Laurel Valley's ridge-side neighbor ... Cades Cove. This challenging, yet playable, eighteen-hole regulation course, was designed by Edmund B. Ault, ASGCA, and features Bent Grass greens and Bermuda fairways. Changing elevation, meandering creeks, towering mountains, and an abundance of wildlife are at every turn. Although it is located inside a gated community, Laurel Valley Golf Course is open to public play and events, and offers practice areas, rental clubs, bar & 19th Hole.

We went first thing in the morning to play a round of golf. The staff was very friendly, the course was beautiful and the bartender made a great Bloody Mary.

This stables lack activities while you are waiting but the friendliness of the staff and the ride more than make up for it. Loved the proximity to Tuckaleechee Caverns! The guided trail ride was beautiful and flatter than another trail ride experience, which allowed for a more relaxed riding experience.

Our family has been coming to the smoky mountains every summer for more than a decade. We have found the smoky mountain outdoor center to have the best tubes on the river! Their strong canvas covering protects from having your tube pop against a rock, and the bottoms in the rafts are great for younger children. It allows them confidence to go down the river without the fear of falling through the tube. This summer we had kids ages 6 through 15. Our son started going in his own tube at age 4. A plus is that your ticket purchase is good all day. You can go down the river as many times as you want! The building where you purchase tickets and get on the bus has a great shop for all types of outdoor adventure gear. We have found hiking boots, sandals, yeti products, and more. Highly recommend!
