Hunziger Bowl

Ski trail in Taos.

Reviewed By jamesmH6152WP - Wichita, United States

This is a run we kept coming back to throughout last ski season, at least until they opened the Kachina Peak Lift, from which you can access the upper part of Hunziger. Hunziger bowl can be accessed by riding up lift 4, going to the left, and then climbing a slight pitch to your right, just above the Kachina Lift. Hunziger Bowl is a fairly steep bowl, wide at the top, narrowing towards the bottom. At the end, you can head off to the right, hugging the slope towards some tree runs (and continue further right to El Funko, which is also excellent), or simply go straight down, veering to the left, and back down to the base of lift 4. Hunziger is a great place to go when things are crowded elsewhere, and is well worth the slight climb to get there.

We visited for the 1st time TSV at the end of February 2020. Amazing snow, cute little village reminding me The Alpes where I’m from... Parking lot was packed but the slopes where not crowded.... Used to big ski resorts in the Alpes we were not expecting much.... We actually realized that there is plenty of challenging terrain for experts skiers and nice gentle slopes for beginners (my 8 year old niece took lessons and loved it!) We highly recommend the Bavarian Restaurant at the bottom of Kachina lift: awesome food (Real German food by the way) & great service and very well priced! Instead of going to crowded, very expensive Colorado resorts.... we’ll be back!

Taos Ski School

Reviewed By hitomi12

The ski school is truly awesome. My kids age 5,7,9 y.o enjoyed their classes and instructors tremendously. We initially only signed them up for 1 day to see if they like, oh no they LOVE it. My kids had never skied before. The 7&9 y.o could stop and make turn after 1d and could go down the green bunny slope and between the trees on the 3rd day. The 5 y.o could stop and make turns after 2nd day. So in all we sent them for 3d at ski school and last day we skied down together as family. I also took a 2.5 hr intermediate adult ski lesson because I could never properly go down blue trail without falling, it was the best $75 ever spent. Rick took the three of us down the trails and took sufficient break and gave good tips as we skied down together, I think it was the calmest downhill skiing i ever did my entire life. Salute to Taos ski school team!

A.A. Taos Ski Valley Wilderness Adventures

Want to enjoy spectacular mountain scenery on a laid back two hour snowmobile tour? Join Big Al as he guides you through trails in the Carson National Forest to sweeping scenic views. After being met at the Taos Ski Valley parking lot, the souped up school bus "limo" took us up the mountain to the trailhead to start our "private" tour. Fortunately, Big Al took our party of two for a late afternoon run. A quick intro to the snowmobile was followed by a couple of hours exploring the trails. From faces carved into the trees to a hawk that swooped down to pick up a white rabbit that was not camouflaged in the snow, many surprises were around the bends on the snow covered roads. Nice to climb up the mountain to get a couple of panoramic views at over 12,000 feet. Cost was $90 per person for the tour. Cash only. Dress warmly. Bring snow goggles and gloves. Safety is a priority. Masks required. Big Al checks in on you frequently. Great way to spend an afternoon on a sunny winter day.
