Copperas pond

Reviewed By EJW3

We hiked to Copperas Pond from the trailhead on Rt 86. It starts off a little steep and the snow made it slippery, but it is a fun and scenic hike. Copperas Pond was frozen and the wintery scene was beautiful. Although only a short distance from the road, it was very quiet and it felt like we were deep in the Adirondacks. Next, we followed the trail to Owens Pond which was equally picturesque, and then out to Rt 86 at the Owens Pond Trailhead. The walk along the highway back to our starting point was about 1 mile, and overall, the loop was less than 3 miles. This is a very scenic and relatively easy hike, and I imagine that it is very busy in the summer. If you start at the Owens Pond Trailhead and do the hike in reverse, the climb in elevation is more gradual, and then during the steepest part, you will be descending the mountain.

I love boating and being on the water. My favorite part of the day is when I leave shore and head out on the lake. I rent pontoon boats and kayaks so that others can experience the lakes here in Highlands County, more specifically: Lake June, Lake Placid, Lake Huntley, Lake Clay, Lake Istokpoga, Lake Jackson, Lake Lotela and Lake Letta. If you rent a place on the water here in Highlands county, I will rent you a boat for your stay. Coming to Lake Placid? call me for all your boat rental needs!!!

Mount Van Hoevenberg

Mount Van Hoevenberg is the starting point for 31 miles of beautiful cross-country trails that have seen both Olympic and World Cup competition.

Reviewed By brnardo - Saratoga Springs, United States

I am a season ticket holder at Mt.Van Hoevenberg and enjoy skiing there very much. There is a lot of variety and the trails are mostly wide and well groomed. I have done classic x country for years and wanted to learn skate skiing. I had a lesson with a young man named Lockey (sp). He was a great instructor and I was immediately able to put his instruction to use and enjoy skate skiing. I have been many times since. Mt Van Hoevenburg is a US olympic training center for Nordic skiing and sled sports so there is a lot going on. Additionally the trails connect to the Cascade Mt. trail system, a more classic type of area. You really can't go wrong at Mt Van Ho. There is even snow making on the competition courses.
