Planica Valley

The great ski jumps of planica are empty during summer which makes it perfect to walk up there to the top and check out the views for yourself. See what the athletes see. There is really cool zipline now there. And the activity centre is really nice with a lot of things to do.

Razglednik Pec

It is a fantastic location for short hike and perfect for photographers. You can enrich the trip by extending it to Rudnica. It takes about fifteen minutes on foot to reach the view point (from Lev's concrete bridge in Stara Fužina), which adds up to an altitude difference of about 200 metres. On the way, we can also enjoy the view of Stara Fužina.

Plansarsko Jezero

I took a long walk from where I was staying to the local restaurant. My path took me from Vila Koman, through fields, crossed a stream and ended up at Plansarsko Jezero. Lovely place, nature and mountain views.

Kralov Med

Reviewed By Kim025Singapore - Singapore, Singapore

We emailed Danijela about arranging a private tour for three of us and she replied suggesting a choice of two timings. Closer to the date, we let her know about the time of our arrival. As we stayed at Garni Hotel Berc, we walked through the residential area and country road to reach this place in the village of Selo in about 25 mins. Before we went on the tour (6 euros each), we wore a hat with protective netting. Danijela is a warm person and she explained to us the intricacies about bee keeping. She also encouraged us to try the Bee therapy by lying on a bed. She readily answered our questions. Bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, are increasingly under threat from human activities. Pollinators allow many plants, including many food crops, to reproduce and they are key to conserving biodiversity - a cornerstone of the Sustainable Development Goals. To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day. This date was chosen as it coincides with the birthday of Anton Janša, who in the 18th century pioneered modern beekeeping techniques in his native Slovenia and praised the bees for their ability to work so hard, while needing so little attention. We also visited the gift shop and learnt what good honey is like. We also tasted some samples. After my trip to Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia, I felt that her prices are reasonable and the small bottles of honey are good gifts for families and friends back home. We walked back by another way passing a working farm where we saw brown cows and lovely houses with beautiful flowers in their gardens. Soon we arrived at Lake Bled and this walk was pleasant and scenic. Strongly recommend a walk there to visit an important industry and learnt much about the importance of bee.

Zelenci Nature Reserve

A very beautiful natural park with its mesmerizing emerald coloured lake. The entire place is very tranquil and serene, and quieter than the popular Lake Bled. The place is very picturesque, even though the lake is small. We really loved our time here and it's one of our favourite place in Slovenia.

Vrsic Pass - Julian Alps

At an altitude of 1611 metres, the mountain pass at Vrsic is the highest in the eastern Julian Alps and provides a natural link between the Savska and the Soska valleys. You may wish to have a relaxing cup of coffee or even stay the night at the Ticarjev mountain hut, which is located at the top of the pass. There are five mountain huts on Vrsic offering you rest and refreshment. Just off the main road winding up Vrsic, at an altitude of around 1200 metres rests the Russian chapel. Whilst ascending Vrsic, you can admire the natural rock-carved face of the lovely maiden Ajdovska deklica and a natural rock-window created in the face of the Prisank mountain.

We drove this 25km stretch from Kranjska Gora to Trenta valley at a slow pace, soaking in the glorious views and experiences en route. We spent over 3 hours completing the route with ~50 hairpin bends, armed with a very useful map provided by the friendly Kranska Gora tourist office at the start of this journey (do drop by and ask for the one with the stops marked and attractions labelled). September seems a perfect time to go, with modest traffic (cars and cyclists), place to pul over/park at most stops and favourable weather. Some of the memorable stops included Lake Jasna, the Russian Chapel, the Pagan girl, Postarski Dom (with a clearer view of the face as well, and some interesting WW bunker relics) and the source of River Soca. Fascinating!

Straza Bled

Straza is a smaller hill most suitable for a relaxing walk and summer or winter sport activities. It is considered to be the most beautiful viewpoint in the area that offers incredible view of the city of Bled, lake Bled, castle and surrounding mountains. In summer you can enjoy in adrenaline-drenched sledding (summer tobogganing), visiting Adventure Park or taking a ride with the tube, tuba jump or free fall simulator. You can take a relaxing walk through meadows and woods on the Rikli Fitness Trail. In winter you can ski on a small, but settled ski slope that is lit for night skiing and offers organized ski school, equipment rental and Sporty's Children Snow Park. Straza ski slope is accessible by car or by foot as it is only a few minutes' walk from the center of Bled. The resort is closed in a heavy rain.

Having traveled Europe for four months, and riding many toboggans, this was our favorite. Firstly, the views are so beautiful, being able to see the castle, the church, and the lake all at once is an incredible sight from the elevation. The attraction is easily accessible on foot (if you want some exercise), or by ski lift and any local can point you in the right direction. The employees were very kind. Best of all was the beautiful and fun ride down the mountain! You can control how fast or slow you go, so dont worry about it being too scary if you dont like fast rides! All in all, a cheap, fun attraction, and a must in Lake Bled!

Dovzan Gorge

Although the Dovžan gorge is older than the dinosaurs, no dinosaur had ever set foot in it. But they probably swam in it. For the last 300 million years the gorge was covered by tropic sea. Marine animals swarmed in it, this is why the gorge's rocks are full of their fossils. Even fossils that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Today, this is where lies a narrow gorge with steep walls of a multitude of colours. The recently renewed path starts at the parking lot behind the Čadovlje village near Tržič. The village is also home to the Jamenšnik homestead, a unique example of rustic architecture, typical of the Karawanks. And the nearby "paštba", the only renovated brick kiln for flax and fruit, hosts the information point. The path then passes by the information signs between steep walls, over a bridge and through a gallery, by the longest stream with waterfalls in Slovenia and geological column, where rocks, between 300 and 260 million years old, can be seen. The views around the gorge are astonishing. The bravest explorers can tackle a steep path with steel stairs, secured with steel wire ropes, which anyone can take on without feeling dizzy. True climbers, however, can test their abilities in climbing areas on the mysterious Kušpergar's towers, five vertical stone columns - remnants of the prehistoric coral reef. There are as many secrets in the Dovžan gorge, as there are stones on the path. And even though there are countless fossils on every step, the Plesiosaurus has not been found yet. It is buried somewhere deep, waiting for someone to discover it.
