Kaas Lake

Reviewed By Mihir282014 - Mumbai, India

Kas lake lives upto its reputation. It's a must visit. The great part is that it has a good mix of rocky and walkable shore. U can sit and chill and maybe have a picnic with food and stuff. There are few local food joints but would recommend if ur not a fan of Maharashtrian local food. Carry enough water.

Thoseghar Waterfall

Reviewed By ArpitG81

Had been tired of all over crowded places near Pune like Mulshi, Lonavala, Matheran etc etc ... so wanted to explore something new and amazing. Much awaited on my To Visit Places Sheet was "Thoseghar Waterfalls" As it was recommended in monsoon - so I was typically waiting for that perfect day to leave for it. Finally, me and my wife visited this place on Sunday. As it was raining heavily in Pune from more then 3 days - we got an idea how beautiful our trip is gonna be. And yes, we got more then what was expected. Lush Green mountains, rains, huge windmills on road , we were lost completely in this place. So we started from Pune around 7 AM, it is around 155 kms - that would take at least 4 hours when it is continuously raining. We reached around 12 [stopped for breakfast at Vitthal Kamat's] before Mahabaleshwar crossing. We followed Google Maps and it took us the right way via short cut that didn't let us enter Satara city crowd which we were not even interested. After few kilometers- you will reach Thoseghar turn, from there the entire surroundings, villages seem to been intentionally decorated by plush green colours, roads are well maintained. It was like heaven - we kept stopping at many mid points just for clicking nature's beauty and some selfies. Before 4-5 kms to Thoseghar waterfall, you will see a huge Windmill just next to road, you can stop access it and take photos if you wish to. Finally, we reached Thoseghar waterfall main gate - huge parking space - no worries. Entry ticket is Rs 30 pp. It was crowded [as expected on Sunday] but still it is very well planned and organized - so you wont feel like long queues or pushing and all. Luckily that time it stopped raining for sometime and we could make best out of it. So - there are 2 ways: 1 goes to big waterfall where there is a terrace - you can stand there and click the best pics - it is crowded, so you need to wait for few minutes to get yourself perfect stand. From there itself you will be able to see series of waterfalls - very beautiful. There is also a photographer available who can click for you as many as you want - he charges Rs 50 per print [hard copy]. Then we moved towards Small waterfall - it took some stairs and some steps [not much] to reach there... you will get very close to it.... it was so huge that we got fully drenched by its waves. Cnt define in words... may be the pics and videos will do and make you all feel it. While returning from small waterfall, there is way that takes you to the river flowing behind the small waterfall - that view was also very amazing. Then we were back to exit gate. Overall, it took us 1.5 hours to complete both Waterfalls and collecting so many memories in our phones. There are few eating points near parking and main gate for quick munchies you desire in monsoon - dont expect much. When we returned after completing our waterfalls towards Parking, we were hungry, so just next to main gate - there is small restaurant which is not well maintained and was serving very ok food. But near road side parking - there are few more outlets available where anyone can try [they look far better then the place we had snacks] I would say it is little far off from Pune - but once you reach there, you will have no regrets. Best time is always monsoon - go and collect lot of life memories of such a beautiful place .....Keep travelling !!

Kaas Pathar - Valley of Flowers

Reviewed By RajuSalvi - Pune, India

Kaas with full bloom colorful flowers is the eye pleasing sight to behold & Satara to Kaas route is one of the best picturesque journey in Maharashtra. I travelled from Pune for following one day Satara trip on 15th Nov. 2019 1. Kaas Plateau (without flower bloom) 2. Thoseghar Waterfall (waterfall is still there) 3. Sajjangadh Fort The helpful tips & information on Kaas visit is below: A) Best Time To Visit i) 15th Aug to 7th of Oct. (Season of full bloom flower) Season time may vary few days plus minus depending on flower bloom. This year the flower bloom was very less & also for very less duration. ii) Oct to July (Without flower bloom) B) Entry Fee i) 15th Aug to 7th Oct. (Peak season time) Free for: a) Kids below 12 years b) Senior Citizen above 65 years (Age proof ID required) c) Working soldiers d) Ex Soldiers & their spouse Rs.100 for rest all not in above category ii) Oct to July Rs.20/- for rest all category C) Ticket System i) 15th Aug to 7th Oct NB: Only 3000 visitors allowed per day during this peak season time. Online booking compulsory for following time slots of Saturday, Sunday & public holidays: a) 7 am to 11 am (1000 visitors) b) 11 am to 3 pm (1000 visitors) c) 3 pm to 6 pm (1000 visitors). To report between 3 pm to 4 pm mandatory. NB: Cancellation of Kaas visit not allowed under any circumstances Kaas visit confirmation print out receipt to be compulsory produced at the entry gate If you go there directly without online booking during season time they may issue the ticket after assessing the crowd situation. ii) Oct to July You will get the ticket at Gate no. 3 i.e main entry gate. D) Free Parking i) During Peak Season Time There are two parking areas: a) Couple of km before Kaas entry gate b) Couple of km after Kaas entry gate Bus facility will be there from parking area to entry gate & vice a versa at Rs.10 each. ii) During off season Parking is allowed near the main entry gate E) Guide You can avail the guide service at Rs.100 F) Toilet Facility There are few portable toilets for gents & ladies at the main entry gate. Photo of same is attached in this review. D) Food Restaurant Nothing available near the main entry gate. On route from Satara to Kaas there are resorts, hotels & restaurants located on beautiful sights. At Kaas lake which is at few minutes drive from main entry gate, there are few hotels, restaurants available. F) Distance From Pune Pune to Satara 100 km Satara to Kaas 25 km G) Directions You have two lootmaar (Road Tolls) center of govt. on this route. i) At Khed Shivapur - Rs.95 for one way & Rs.145 for two way ii) 15 km before Satara - Rs.70 one way & Rs.95 two way There are few patches on road in a very bad shape. It pinches thinking that we are paying toll but no action to make road good. It is more than a year it remains as it is. On reaching Satara try to avoid the road thru city as it is crowded on account of road work in progress. Take help of locals for road thru outskirt. I used this option. You can make use of GPS. H) On Kaas Flower Plateau At the main entry gate there is a map of Kaas Plateau. I have attached it's photo in this review. It will be one of the most wonderful sight to see natural colorful flowers during peak season time. The mountain, valley & river view are also very good. There is a pond named Kumudini that bears lotus flowers. It is located adjacent to the road fencing of Kaas Mahabaleshar route. During off season, you can walk around the edges to see beautiful views of valley, mountains, rivers, lake etc. I have attached few photos in this review. I walked for more than 2 hours to cover the full area of Kaas during my visit. At couple of locations there are benches near the edges to sit relax & enjoy the view. You are allowed to take photos freely inside Kaas area. I) Kaas To Satara Route I was gone crazy on this route after seeing such a mind blowing picturesque views on both side of the road. On left side of road, Kanher dam & on right side of road, Urmodi dam are located. The mountains, valleys & dams views are amazingly impressive & striking. I was driving stopping, driving stopping, driving stopping at many locations on this route to capture the spectacular views in my camera. I have attached photos in this review. Those who love nature, this is the place for them. This is the first time a place in India made me follow this routine otherwise: i) Kandy to Ella train journey & local sightseeing road journey at Ella in Srilanka is the first place in my life that made me follow this routine i.e. stop drive, stop drive & ii) Mahe island road journey in Seychelles is the second place. J) My One Day Plan For Satara Trip Started at 8.15 am from Bibvewadi I visited first Kaas plateau from 12 noon to 2.30 pm. I visited Thoseghar from 4 pm to 4.30 pm I visited Sajjangadh Fort from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm I started from Sajjangadh at 7 pm & reached Pune Bibvewadi at 9 pm by car. I missed Ajinkyatara Fort from my itinerary. If I would have started between 5 am to 6 am then surely I would have covered this too. Even though there is no flowers, I would surely recommend nature lovers for above one day trip on any day. Only make sure you start early between 6 am to 7 am.
