Lillaz Waterfalls

Reviewed By Janeesp - Limoges, France

We went to the waterfalls on a damp Sunday morning, we followed a path to the waterfalls and ended up climbing up the mountainside to get a better view from the bridge which is above the main waterfall. We continued on the marked path which luckily took us to a nearby lane which we followed back down to the village, personally I didn’t fancy trying to navigate our way back down the rocks we had climbed up especially as they were damp. You definitely need suitable footwear if you intend trying to see the best of the waterfalls and the stunning views over the valley from above them.

Rifugio Vittorio Sella

Reviewed By Sixonthego_50 - Winnetka, United States

The area is one of the prettiest places I have ever been and I travel all over the world. I thought the hike up was tough but well worth the effort. About 3.5 hours from Cogne. Uphill a little over a kilometer. You can leave from Valnontey, which you can drive to, and cut about an hour off the trip. The food was great and they had gluten free for my daughter. The bathroom, while shared was clean and modern, which is key for my three daughters. The beer was good and the wine selection sufficient. A herd of Ibex came into the Refugio in the evening which was incredible both for parent and child.

Giardino Botanico Alpino Paradisia

Paradisia Alpine Garden, created in July 1955, is located 1,700 metres above sea-level in Valnontey, Cogne; its name derives from Paradisia liliastrum, a mountain lily with delicate white flowers. The garden contains about 1,000 different species of plants and flowers from the Alps and the Apennines, as well as some examples of vegetation from other mountain ranges around the world (Europe, Asia, America). Visitors have the opportunity to come into close contact with nature by observing and analysing the plants which can be found during an excursion in the Gran Paradiso mountains. They can learn their names, compare them with other similar species, learn how to recognise them and, most important of all, learn to respect the alpine flora and to protect it. Various itineraries and theme routes allow the visitor to explore Paradisia Botanical Garden in detail and to discover the characteristic and distinguishing features of different species. Moreover, several mountain environments such as moist areas, moraines and calcareous debris have been reproduced.
