Top 10 Museums in Rhodes, South Aegean

June 5, 2021 Darwin Bolte

The largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands on the Aegean's eastern edge, Rhodes is also its most popular. The well-preserved medieval city of Rhodes sits at the north of the island of the same name. High rise hotels line the northern and eastern coastlines. Small villages and resorts dot the island's other shores. Whether your interests are beaches, bars or ancient sites, Rhodes offers an abundance of all three. Authentic Greece can be found in the hilly interior of the 50-mile-long island.

Artistic Village Contemporary Art - Art gallery & Museum of Ceramic Art

The Artistic Village is a family business. The founder and creator of the Artistic Village is Nikolas I. Simiakos. The Artistic Village has been operating since 1984 and we try to highlight various aspects of modern craftsmanship and culture. In the welcoming 600 sq. Metre art gallery you will be able to see innovative art works, ornaments, sculptures, special designs and compositions made from clay, glass, wood, bronze, iron, aluminium and other materials. Any of these pieces would be the perfect choice for a novel gift. Also, in the art gallery/studio, you can see original pictures which will make any space - personal or professional - look its best. The Artistic Village is home to the first museum where visitors can explore the past and learn about the art of ceramics from its beginnings to the present day. Entrance is free. Professionalism, imagination, distinctiveness, uniqueness and our love for the best are our "gold standard" for our long term success. Pay us a visit and discover our collections. The Artistic Village is on the eastern coast of the beautiful island of Rhodes, a few kilometres(20 Km) outside Rhodes town. It is easily reached from anywhere in the town by taking the national road from Rhodes Town to Lindos. Rhodes' "Diagoras" airport is only a 30 minute drive from the village, and Rhodes Town and the harbour are a similar distance away. You will find the Artistic Village between cosmopolitan Afantou and the tourist area of Kolymbia. The ample parking space, and the many outdoor relaxation areas in this beautiful and very pleasant environment, are only some of the facilities on offer to visitors to the Artistic Village.

The family have produced a superb display of three dimensional art, all of which is for sale. The family do not work solely in ceramics, incorporating wire and other material into their art. There is plenty of choice and there are items for sale that will suit all pockets. The family have a number of signature items, of particular note are the olive branches / trees which are wall art, using a combination of ceramic and wire. They are no larger than approx 35cm square and look attractive on any wall. There are also bowls, platters, dishes and many other items. I would be surprised if you leave without buying something.

The small museum Ladomilos in the center of the village of Sianna is a sure stop when you explore the island by car! Already the trip going there is worthwhile, driving through the mountains and nature of Rhodes. The village of Sianna is situated on the westcoast of the island. The museum is a nice stop,(no entrance fees) we received a warm welcome there by Anastasia and Despina, who.told us all about the process of making oil out of the olives. And of course the tasting part is very nice! All together a great experience in a friendly and warm Greek environment! Thank you Anastasia & Despina for your warm.welcome and interesting info you shared with us.We will.pass again...????

Spyros is an incredibly enthusiastic, kind and proud owner of his collection of antiquities, geological stones and minerals and artifacts depicting Greek mythology and Greek gods! The paintings on the ceilings we found especially beautiful! Spyros gave us a personal and enthusiastic tour and told us about his findings with a lot of wit. We would definitely recommend going here! It is a good way to see a broad spectrum historical Greek treasures!

La Magia

We run a family business for more than 20 years, with exclusive pieces of handmade, silver and gold plated jewelery and additionaly, we have handmade ceramics made out of stonewear. We cooperate with Greek designers only, some of them the best of in their kind, and our shop has the priviledge to own jewelery from artists who cooperates only with us, in Rhodes island.

A little magic is there hidden in every item in this beautiful small store. I really liked pieces of pottery made by Koralia - especially the figurines of women (unfortunately I did not have time to come back and buy 2 - I needed a pair - before leaving Rhodes - could you possibly offer selling online and shipping in Europe?). I really admire the fact that the seller knew everything about the designers and the pieces of art they create. It seems that there is a kind of a relation - a friendship - between the owners of the store/the gallery and the artists. And this is the way the magic in selling the art is created.

Rhodes Jewish Museum

Reviewed By I5278CBfrancescam

I ahev visisted the museum many times since I come to Rodhes every year and I also came across some of the major representatives of this Jewish community. The museum tells you a lot about the life on the island before the Olocaust and also you can find a memorial in the courtyard to rmember all the many, too many, people taken away by the nazis. The visit is touching and culturally significand. If you go in summertime and you are lucky you could be welcomed by Sami Modiano in person who is always ready and pleased to introduce you to the tour of the Sinagoge and museum; this is a person worth meeting in life as he is also one of the few survivors from Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. They normally hold a commemoration every July.
