Top 10 Mediterranean food in Bracciano, Province of Rome, Italy

March 2, 2020 Viva Honore

Reviews on Mediterranean food in Bracciano, Province of Rome, Italy. Bracciano is a small town in the Italian region of Lazio, 30 kilometres (19 miles) northwest of Rome. The town is famous for its volcanic lake (Lago di Bracciano or "Sabatino", the eighth largest lake in Italy) and for a particularly well-preserved medieval castle Castello Orsini-Odescalchi. The lake is widely used for sailing and is popular with tourists; the castle has hosted a number of events, especially weddings of actors and singers.

Over the last few years, I have been introduced by Braccianese friends to the restaurant Ai due Leoni which is located on the road from Bracciano Due to Castel Giuliano. It is a little hard to find at night being found only by one sign at the restaurant entrance on the left hand side of the somewhat dark road to Castel Giuliano, but the food, service and local Braccianese ambiance is well worth the fairly short drive from the centre of Bracciano. It is very good value, with the hosts always suggesting specials on the night. It is a family friendly restaurant with lots of families present, together with tables occupied by young local couples or young people. I think it is probably one of the dying class of genuine Italian restaurants close to Rome serving basic but wholesome Lazio regional food eg. bistecca, miale. There is also ample off street parking which is an added bonus, rather than worry about a space in the town centre when wishing to eat.

Yes, the name may sound like a tourist trap, but we were actually the only non locals there. Try their humongous pasta (God bless the size of the plates!). We tried the carbonara and the one with local sausage, both were awesome. The price/quality/quantity factor of this place is unbelievable.

We stopped off here after visiting the castello at that behest of our tour guide - said it was his favourite and that the lady used to have a restaurant in Rome and specializes in these 'sandwiches'. To me, and I'm not a connoisseur, it was just a meat filled sandwich, in no way a comparison to Subway or and other sub shop. Don't remember what 3 sandwiches we had, other than it wasn't anything repeat another visit for.The place is quite small and lunch time is busy with people waiting outside to find the sparse seating inside? not sure why when we could walk and eat a sub-like sandwich.

We dined here the evening and enjoyed the setting along the wall of the castle. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The steak was a bit over cooked and the pasta with clams had too many tiny chips of shell to be truly enjoyable.

We had an excellent lunch here together with friends following a visit to the Castello Odescalchi Di Bracciano. The staff were polite and welcoming and the service excellent. We were served with a welcoming glass of prosecco and an amuse buche. Simply cannot fault them. The food was first class and beautifully presented. They were able to offer gluten free options and were quick to point out the items that contained gluten.Very reasonable prices as well. Definitely worth another visit.

Bracciano's Ristorante del Castello sits atmospherically beneath the impressive behemoth we later visited. It enjoys the ambiance afforded by the historic castle's largesse, presenting in itself an otherwise indistinctive visual character. Our young waitress proved both charming and supportive. (I'd forgotten to leave her a tip until returning to correct my error the next day).We began with a simple sliced fan style carciofi in EVOO, lime and shaved percorino at E11, a little high in price but the immediate area has a certain chi-chi vicino Romana authoritarian aura. Our thick pastas, possibly homemade, sat in a neutral red tomato sauce, topped with a small dollop of bufalo mozzerella and a wimpy teaspoon of chopped uncooked red shrimp which was supposed, one imagines, to lend impressiveness. The plates were pretty enough, but pricy and bland at E16 x 2. A decent glass of house white was E5. We had a bottle of still water and two (ugh) virtually COLD cappucini. The total bill with tip for so modest a meal came to an imposing E64.As we walked around the corner a bit we saw a (nice looking place) restaurant special lunch offering which included starter, primo, secondo, water and coffee for E18 pp. Peering at the plates, the offerings seemed more appealing as well as an outstanding value. However there was no imposing castle vista if one bent a chair 90 degrees left and 45 degrees back as was the case in our experience. Rating this experience average had more to do with the charming server than anything else. I suspect otherwise we'd have done a 2/5 stars.

The restaurant looks just up to "ok", some of the chair covers were stained. The waiters were unhelpful and clumsy. We were not offered a taste of the wine (which is a normal standard) and the bottle was just left on the table. The starters:Antipasto di terra consisted solely of few cured meat slices and a chilly jam to pair with god knows what. The sauteed mussels were just not fresh. The Mains:Fried shrimps were apparently good.Fried lake fish was horrible, if you know the different species you would have realized that two out of three were not what was written on the menu. The lowest bit was the batter, bright yellow, tasted like frittata, IF and I say IF it was handmade I heavily question by who and what training he/she has on cooking. We have never been asked if the food was ok.The prices are absolutely stellar high compared to what is served.Though but absolutely accurate.

Hubby and I know the area well and wanted a low key lunch someplace we had never been before on our anniversary. Found good reviews of Le Papere online and we were not disappointed. Food was fresh, delicious and served with care and a smile. I had pasta with clams that was superb and different from the usual spaghetti alle vongole because their's had a sprinkling of ground pistachios in the sauce and was made with strozzapreti instead of spaghetti - inventive, sophisticated and delicious. Followed up with fried shrimp and calamari that were fresh, light, crisp and perfectly salted. Only regret was that we didn't have space for desert. Will be back to try the millefeuille that looked delicious. Oh and when we mentioned it was our anniversary as we were leaving, the owner gave us a bottle of prosecco to take home for the evening -- really kind and classy gesture. We look forward to going back.I remember very well of you and your sympathy! many times thanks for all you have written for the restaurant and to have noticed our inventiveness in the courses. So see you next time and greetings! Marco - 3939779365
