D'Ambrogio Guesthouse

D'Ambrogio was built back in the late 70's by a man called Ambrogio for his daughter Pauline to raise her future family. After marriage, Pauline and her husband France raised three female children. Years after, the father passed away and all the children become young ladies and started families of their own. Since the house was too big for Pauline by herself, she decided to open up her house to guests and travelers. Today, D'Ambrogio Guesthouse has a total of 6 double rooms, 2 of which can be twin or double beds. The house has three floors. When entering the house, one finds a family studio room on the left and the breakfast area to the right, and a reception desk ahead. On the first floor, is a large common bathroom and another three double rooms, including the Master bedroom. On the Second floor are two rooms with bathroom. All rooms have access to the second floor roof terrace which is ideal for barbecues and outdoor dining. Sun beds are also provided for guests who would like to be sun-kissed in Malta in Summer.

D'Ambrogio Guesthouse felt like home

Reviewed By Agness W

I have stayed at the D'Ambrogio Guesthouse for 5 nights together with my best friend. We absolutely loved how calm this part of Malta (Rabat) was. We could relax, go jogging and zone out in the evening. Rabat is well-known for its Dingli Cliffs that we ran to twice (the distance was approximately 4,5 km away from D'Ambrogio Malta so if you love being active, I highly recommend staying there. D'Ambrogio Guesthouse was spotless. Our room was cleaned daily, delicious breakfast was served between 7:30 and 10:30 and we were often offered some extra snacks and sweets during the day. Also, we had a small balcony where we (me and my best friend) had breakfast and morning coffee together. We loved this routine! The wifi was super fast so both of us could work in the room. The speed of the internet was very important to us as we both work remotely. D'Ambrogio Guesthouse provided us with an amazing experience. Rochelle and Pauline (mother and daughter - the owners of the place) were like a family to us. They cared a lot about our well being, made sure we felt comfortable and happy and always recommended plenty of spots for jogging, sightseeing and dining out. During the New Year's Eve, they hosted a family party and share some amazing food with us - a mince casserole, Maltese styled meat with veggies and a mountain of desserts - from cookies to a fruitcake. We found it extremely nice and hospitable - thank you once again! Rochelle loves to travel so we connected immediately. We talked the same language of travels and surprisingly, she recently visited Poland - Gdańsk city! We met her entire family and exchanged greetings with everyone. It was a very emotional moment for me as I didn't spend Christmas home this year. Pauline was like our mother. She cared so much, had a chat with us every single day and crashed a few jokes with us although she was busy with other guests and cooking. She let me print out my boarding pass and cook some extra food in the morning. She also greeted us with a bottle of champagne that we drank on the New Year's Eve and organized a transport from the airport to D'Ambrogio Guesthouse - we arrived late in the evening and she wanted to make sure we would be taken to our place safely. To sum up, we loved this place and if we ever come back to Malta, we'll definitely stay there again.

Choosing a local Malta house for our visit was the best decision ever, but Will Abela, who later became our friend, absolutely enriched our stay there. His house is at the very center to everywhere, very clean and has a decoration of an excuisite taste. But above all, this experience is something you cannot simply buy with a credit card:)) I would definitely recommend Will's place for an unforgettable holiday in Malta.

Not Relaxing....

Reviewed By JozSurrey

We were very excited about this romantic trip together. The place looked beautiful and we chose it out of many others because of the lovely pool, setting and couples only place. Our expectations were high as the reviews were superb and we only stay in the best reviewed pkaces. . We spent 8 nights and left feeling unhappy, unwanted, restricted to our room with the fear of annoying the owners. Maybe things were lost in translation but they ignored us, were impolite and rude - passive aggressive I would say. They wanted the place untouched and in pristine condition so it was frowned upon when our one solitary dip in the pool was clearly a mistake. The owner mopping up around us ruining our harmony, clearly annoyed. On a good note, breakfasts were nice with a range of fruit, eggs and pastries as well as juice and coffee. We were however not offered an evening meal if we wanted it and we were told to be quiet at 3.00pm as the other couple were sleeping! We were treated differently to other couples who were allowed to make a noise and were treated to lovely meals with a really warm welcome. Our money was definitely wasted and we were left not feeling relaxed, refreshed and revitalised. The couple who owned the place were young Italians which made it even more confusing as to their behaviour and attitude. A short stay is best at a place like this.

Great stay in a great Hotel

Reviewed By pilot044

I have stayed at the Dolmen a few times now and seen as it was a special birthday thought i would treat myself to a superior sea view room. The hotel as normal is a fantastic place, clean the food was always good this time it was chef service only, really the only thing my breakfast lacked was a good old pork sausage but never mind. I had a room with a sea view on the 6th floor nice room but wouldn't have called it superior,i asked to change room doe to an air con noise that was keeping me awake at night i was moved a few rooms down and what a difference sure i was put in a superior room the 2nd time and had a standard sea view the 1st time round anyway not a problem. Every member of staff i spoke to was very polite and very helpful and friendly. I visit Malta 2 or 3 times a year and can't always afford the Dolman but as it's my birthday in December will definitely be going again and requesting if the same room is available so thanks everyone at the Dolmen for making my special birthday break very very enjoyable.

Just lovely!

Reviewed By Sarah-Jane P

Really happy with our stay here. The hostess, Francesca, had thought of everything and was even able to provide a gas heater for a small extra charge. Wow - we were so grateful for that in the evenings which were very chilly!! We had the 3-bedroom apartment and so had both a bath and shower in the 2 bathrooms and they were both great! Towels were provided which helped us a lot. Lots of extra blankets were available in the wardrobe for nights of different temperatures - the whole thing was geared towards being a comfortable place to stay. I read other reviews saying it is very basic - that's part of the reason we liked it - we felt "at home" here and weren't worried the children would destroy some priceless item. Very short walk to Marsalforn seafront, and restaurants. Short walk to Lighthouse supermarket and Splash convenience store just down the street. Right opposite Gharrajek bus stop to go to Victoria, and a short walk to Marsalforn main bus stop of you want to go direct to Ramla bay or back to Mgarr for the ferry. Would definitely stay here again!!

Very nice place in a good location

Reviewed By Piotr K

The apartment is very nice. Basically almost the whole house is for rent: there’s a shop with mobile phones on the ground floor, but the rest of the building is Medina Lodge: on the first and second floor there are bedrooms with bathrooms and TVs. On the top there’s a kitchen with all necessary equipment (like a cooker, a microwave oven, a fridge, a wash machine etc.). It also acts are the living room and there’s also a dining table and a sofa. One has 270 degrees nice view on the city from the kitchen. There’s also a little terrace where one can eat, rest or even do sunbathing. The apartment is very well located: in the centre of Rabat right next to the main attractions of the city like St. Paul's church and catacombs (and just few minutes walking from the old town of Mdina). Nearby there are various shops, bars, the post office and even the police station. However, although located in the city, one don’t feel such rush like in e.g. Valetta. What’s important for people who travel by car is that, unlike usually in Malta, there are quite a few parking places in front of apartment and it’s relatively easy to find a place to park (just note that on Sunday morning there’s a market in Rabat and most of the these parking places have to be left vacant on that day). It take around 30 min to get by car to the airport or Valetta (depends on the traffic conditions; reserve much more time during peak hours). The contact with the owner was very good. Before arrival we received instruction on how to pick up the keys. During staying we reported a little issue that was quickly resolved. However, it’s worth of mentioning that the water heater in the bathroom is of a relatively small capacity, thus if two people would like to take shower in a row there can be not enough water. Also the bathroom looks nice, but is not very practical because of lack of the shower curtain, so no matter how much one tries while taking the shower there’s no possibility not to spill water around. One may notice that there’s an option to sleep in the kitchen/living room, but bearing in mind relatively poor isolation against temperature, noise and light, as it’s like a small pavilion build on top of the roof, I would consider such option only as a backup.

Very poor

Reviewed By Karis P

Stayed on 18th June as flying out early. OMG very hot, stupid glass door to the very small toilet, towels have seen better days and the heat from the pool gave us the worst nights sleep ever. Plus the farmhouse had a major party which went on till 1am which was annoying as we had to be up at five. I suggest staying in the village would have been a better option.
