Chez Monique Silver Smith Class

Our expert silversmiths teach students how to fashion 7 grams of silver into jewelry. We teach at all levels, from beginners to experienced.

Reviewed By BrissyJem - Brisbane, Australia

We had a wonderful afternoon making jewellery with the team at Chez Monique. This class is more about making a piece of jewellery than learning lots of different techniques - in case anyone has expectations of formal learning. We were very happy with the session and instruction needed to make our pieces. The team were very helpful, and very patient when I decided to make quite a complex pendant! We weren’t concerned about the price (that seems to be a comment on some of the more negative posts here) - we had specific ideas of what we wanted to make and even though Wayan informed us it would cost a little more prior, we were happy as we would pay similar prices (if not more) for a shop bought piece. I was really happy with my finished piece and Wayan was so lovely to chat with. Thank you!

We had such a great time. We called last minute for an afternoon session and were there for about three hours. It’s a family business and they’re all lovely, super patient and helpful without being overbearing. Highly recommended as a way of engaging with a traditional Indonesian cultural art form and also as an activity off the beaten path and a way to relax for an afternoon in the middle of a busy, activity-filled trip. And we left with our beautiful, handmade batik pieces!

I spent 5 days here learning painting techniques with Bruce. It was truly a special experience. Not only an inspiring artist but also a master teacher, I learnt loads from him. By the end of the course I produced art I was really proud of, and did not think I could do! But much more importantly, it was loads of fun, and full of enjoyment and creative challenge. Bruce was really encouraging and brilliant at making this a great experience. I would recommend doing a course here highly.

Deking Batik Class

Reviewed By shanana21 - Singapore, Singapore

We were picked up at the airport by Pak Deking’s son and driven to their family home for the batik class. Had an excellent time at this family run batik class. Enclaved in an oasis of calm just a short turn from the main Jalan Raya Bedulu. Pak Deking was the main man in charge: walked us through patiently the batik process from design selection, to explaining the process of batik: drawing/tracing designs with hot wax, adding paragon, wrinkling, colour selection (was a little of a confusing process as different colour bases had to be matched to obtain the right colour), adding parafin again to protect colour, boiling and washing out the dye for the final product. Tea break was homemade banana fritters with shaved coconut pieces and palm sugar-super yums! My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our day and it was the best introduction to Bali culture and hospitality! Even transport back to Seminyak was arranged for our convenience.

Nyoman Suarsara's art class is just perfect. He is such a generous and thoughtful teacher. He is extremely patient and helps guide you throughout your art journey for the few hours you are with him, encouraging you to take breaks and just enjoy. He really takes pride to teach you his techniques and for me, I just wanted to keep going because it's so relaxing (he plays soft Balinese music as well) I really enjoyed every minute - he picks/drops you off, provides all the materials and really makes it hassle free. His studio is a short driving distance from Ubud central. Definitely book his class!
