Top 10 Lessons & Workshops in New Hampshire, United States

July 4, 2021 Fernanda Pittenger

If you are looking for diversity, you will certainly find it in New Hampshire. From lakes to beaches, waterfalls to woods and mountains to sea coast, the state has huge potential for outdoor vacations, including downhill or cross-country skiing in winter. With no less than seventy-five state parks that offer natural areas, hiking trails, beaches and historic sites, New Hampshire caters for a variety of tastes. Crawford Notch State Park in Harts Location has picturesque waterfalls, wonderful mountain views and opportunities for viewing wildlife. You can go hiking and fishing there as well as pay a visit to the historic Willey House. Monadnock State Park, unlike some other state parks, is open all year round for hiking. Want to go swimming? You will find five state park beaches along the coast of New Hampshire, such as Wallis Sands with its view of the rocky Isles of Shoals. On North Hampton State Beach and Jenness Beach you can have a picnic as well as a swim. When you've finally had your fill of fresh air, head for the Museum of New Hampshire History in Concord with exhibits focusing on heritage and traditions; children should enjoy them just as much as adults.

Team O'Neil Rally School

Reviewed By willp894

I was referred to Team O’Neil by one of my friends who had attended. His team had sent someone to all of the driving schools in the country to find the best fit for their needs and the teams have continued to use them for about 10 years. I trust my friend with my life, so I began making plans to attend; I live 2600 miles away. I chose from the beginning to attend all five-days. The timing looked good so I made a phone call about five months in advance of attending. Karl answered the phone and then my barrage of questions. I could tell he cared about me, meeting my needs/requirements, and my experience with Team O’Neil; I paid my 50% deposit. Just two-days prior to the class (of course Friday late afternoon) there was a hiccup on my end and I was 2/3 of the way there. I called Karl and left a message. My call was returned within 10 minutes. I explained my situation and he listened. Karl then spoke with their CEO and Karl called me back with the solution. I don’t believe most schools will take that kind of time and thought for a situation and could have easily treated it in a way that would not have been a good one for me. The biggest factor was their attitude – I couldn’t have asked for one that was more understanding and I could hear in Karl’s voice that they cared. Arrival on Day 1 – Well-oiled machine. Karl met us at their meeting point to ensure everyone arrived at the school. He explained the route, the road concerns (this was in February with some snow), and the plan if we were separated at any point. Were in the classroom for about one-hour then in the cars. Days 2-5 – We always knew the What, Where, When, How, and Why. We were encouraged to ask questions. The instructors wanted us to know the WHY of everything we did and explained to us how we could accomplish it. Driving – The instructors demonstrated everything we were being asked to do, while they explained it. It was explained in advance and while we were in the cars. We were constantly receiving actionable feedback the whole time. We had a teammate with us (2:1 student to instructor) so we were able to observe another and learn from their successes and errors, while we also felt the way the car responded from the backseat; I teach professionally and observing others is a huge learning opportunity. The surface conditions were constantly changing, forcing us to “read” the road and adapt. If you are only planning on attending Day 1 or Day 2 – DON’T LEAVE BEFORE DAY 3! This is where it comes together for you. I could hardly sleep that night from the excitement of the day. One team added on one extra day and another added two extra days while they were there. If you are planning on getting into Rally or just be a more competent driver, seriously consider Team O’Neil. I’ll share two quotes to help ease your financial concern: “If you think training is expensive … try ignorance.” - Tom Givens “If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.” - “Red” Adair

I took a Play With Clay class with my partner before the pandemic. It was the first time in a while since I was behind a pottery wheel; the teacher was super friendly and excellent at instructing me. My favorite part about the studio is how many kinds of art you can do, and, more specifically, how beautiful, yet functional a lot of their paint-your-own-pottery items are. There's really something for everyone there. Can't wait to go and be inspired by Fired on the Mountain again!

Art Up Front Street Studios & Gallery

Local working artists' studios and gallery. Original paintings, digital art, prints, landscapes, abstracts, jewelry, assemblage, watercolors and drawings. Very large work and very small. See the works of 8 artists plus take a peek through the doors to the artists' working studios. We are proud to be the first working artists' studio collective in Exeter's growing art scene. We have been featured on New Hampshire Chronicle, Creative Guts Podcast, New England art publications and in local newspapers. We are open on a regular basis to the public, offer opportunities for artist advancement, hold exhibitions, teach private lessons, host youth art month once a year, and have two huge open studios each year as well as organize individual artist exhibitions. We are easy to spot in Uptown Exeter (a rising arts and culture district). Look for the gray building with the yellow flowers. Come in, take a moment to absorb the energy.

This small local art gallery is a gem of southern NH. The events are always interesting and artists represented are varied and very talented! I've attended drawing sessions occasionally and find the energy and subjects terrific. A must visit if you are in the area.
