Excellent Traditional Family Restaurant. Waukegan's oldest institution. They have hot buttered bread they generously place upon your table. The pizza and Broasted chicken are awesome. Every entree and salad is perfectly plated for your visual and enjoyment.

Chicago Woodfire Pizza Company

"From traditional Napoli style pizzas, out of our handmade, Acunto Wood Fire Oven, to "da" Chicago classics straight from Little Italy, we've merged our Windy City roots with our Italian heritage to present to you, "Chicago Wood Fire Pizza Co."

Reviewed By Nancy P

We decided to try Chicago Woodfire again. The first time we had it, we took the pizza out and it was horrible. Our DIL ordered a salad, and three of us decided to share the special - two pizzas, garlic bread twists and chicken bites. We thought that was the appetizers. The chicken bites and twists came out after the pizzas did. The pizzas sat under lights (we were able to see it from our seats) for a good 7 minutes at least. The garlic bread twists didn't even taste like there was garlic and it was the pizza dough. Our DIL's salad came out after we were pretty much finished with our meal. Her salad, they said, was made wrong and they had to make it again. The manager should have come over to apologize but she was "smoozing" with a couple in a booth for the majority of the time we were there. We asked her for water but she sent the waitress. The manager, however, was giving this couple beer, wine and water so of course, we felt like we were not important or anything. The salad came over and was drenched in salad dressing. She didn't eat it (except for the chicken on it.) It was crowded for lunch - at least 15 tables by the time we left. The manager, again, should not have catered to one particular table - she should have helped the servers and if things went wrong, she should have made amends. The food was no better than the first time, therefore, we won't go back.

Jimanos, formerly Jimmy's, is the pizza joint closest to our house. It is our go to place if we want a quick carry out. The pizza is generally good and hot (just be sure to get there 5-7 mins before they say it will be ready.) What is really frustrating though is that every now and then we get one that is not quite right; crust too thick, burnt on the bottom, ingredients that don't seem quite as fresh, just not quite there. Seems like better training or better quality control or oversight is in order.

The Italian specialties were very good. However we were disappointed when a member of our party ordered salmon. Normally the server will ask about the customer's preference regarding the degree of doneness, since salmon can be served in a number of ways. When served, part of it was rare. When sent back, it was still returned medium. By then, the member of our party had lost their appetite. No further follow-up was made. One item that we found to be very surprising was that our server was wearing a bracelet with the word "f***" on it. We couldn't believe that this was permitted. Owner needs to enforce some level of dress code.

Our group attempted to eat here mid-afternoon on a Saturday. There were many open tables. We waited....and waited....and were escorted to a table.....then told no and asked to go back to the front.....and waited....and waited....and left. It appears this is what the staff was wanting to have happen. No problem as the competition welcomed us and our $$$.

Ive come to this OG on several occasions and tbh it was just another dinner there but NOT TODAY... we arrived where seated promptly. Our server was DENISE. she was extremely thorough and outgoing upbeat and friendly. She took our drink order and we got our drinks right away. She let us know about all the specials etc. We ordered our food when our salad and breadsticks came they where fresh and delicious. We never had to ask once for a drink refill. Denise was on point and always smiled and was happy to help with anything we needed. Our food came and she refilled our breadsticks and salad. Everything was amazing. She is a 1 in a million server with a amazing upbeat bubbly personality which we appreciated and she really new her stuff in regards to the OG menu and drinks which was a tremendous help to us since we had a special order for a specific diet needs person with us i was blown away when she started speaking fluent Spanish to a table who spoke very little English she spoke word for word and you can tell they where happy and relieved that was awesome she has amazing customer service skills with a positive attitude and a huge friendly attitude and smile she truly is a asset to the olive garden restaurant. Honestly the best service i ever received at any olive garden restaurant and i visit them often in Skokie in Chicago in woodfield and in gurnee. Thank you Denise for making my family day and meal a fantastic and memorable one. Your awesome and blessed dont ever change.

The food is affordable and really delicious. The family had a large thin crust pizza and I had a Calzone. They said the pizza was really good. The calzone was one of the best I ever had. First of all, it was big. Then it was filled with tons of savory pepperoni and cheese. It was life-changing. Lol. No but it was superb to say the least. Great location right down the road from Six Flags in Gurnee, IL. A must for the family.

We were in the area on a Saturday evening because of our son's baseball game. We decided to stop here before driving the hour plus drive home. We have four kids, so we are a party of 6. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait for a table, but we could pre-order so our food would be ready when we arrived at our table. We ordered our food right away. It was pretty late for us, but we figured since the food would be ready close to when our table was, it would be ok still. We waited about 45 minutes for our table. Then we ended up waiting almost another hour at the table for our food. Not sure why it took so long. The waitress was pretty forgetful when we asked for items like utensils and water. It took us asking at least two times to get them. The food was really great, but if we would have known it would have taken so long, we would not have stayed there. By the time we were all done eating, my youngest was laying on my lap because he was so tired. The food was a 5 star, but the service and wait was way too long.

My spouse and I were in the Waukegan area and stopped by here for an early lunch. It was lovely and Tina warmly greeted us and made sure we were enjoying everything. I had the tuna sandwich and my husband had eggplant. We both had the spinach and asparagus soup. So fresh. We took some desserts home with us. The cappuccinos were lovely. Don't miss the chance to pop in here and enjoy some really delicious, homemade food.
