Kumamoto is well known for its horse meat, especially basashi (sashimi or raw horse meat). Suganoya sells both sashimi and other meals containing horse meat. Most of them are semi-western hamburger dishes but they also have a yakiniku (bbq) section. Most meals include the salad/drink-bar option which allows you not only to get as much salad and non alcoholic beverages as you want, but also horse meat curry, fresh baked breads and sweets. The hamburger menus including the salad bar go for around 1200-1500 yen, making it a very reasonable priced option for either lunch or dinner.
