Typical Swiss chalet hotel with incredibly small rooms!
Reviewed By sussexguyIt was not a great visit to Wildhaus because the weather was appalling in the middle of June, Cloud level with the hotel and rained constantly which meant I could not see the Santis or the Churfisten, the only reason I went! This was my last night of seven different hotels in Switzerland - so I will try to be objective. As a single traveller I always pay for a double room to get the space, This was a single room with a double bed! I am not exactly vertically challenged at 5 feet 8 inches but my head touched the headboard while my feet touched the baseboard. Then there was only 12 inches space to get past the diminutive bed. Having read reviews on grumpy waitresses I have to disagree there. They were cheerful and helpful except the receptionist was unable to help God stop the rain! My dinner was local trout and was delicious. It was only after I left that I read previous reviews about the flies and then I remember there were flies on the food at dinner and breakfast and I did think - the windows are all closed - how did they get in here and why the heck don't they have an electrocutor - saying cannot do anything because of hygiene regs is nonsense, It is a huge hygiene risk. Someone does not want to spend the money - as they don't on beds! I thought it was very poor value compared to my other 6 hotels all in a similar category and would not return.

a comfortable and interesting place
Reviewed By kayechenA lovely experience for our one night stop on the way back to Germany. Big, clean, quiet, airy rooms, one with a balcony overlooking the mountains. Despite being right by the main road we were not troubled by any night noise. This was a true “Non- smoking” place. We appreciated the tea-making facilities in the rooms- a first and only for us so far in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Good WiFi in the rooms, a beautiful view from the balcony, helpful friendly staff who put up with our halting German and loaned us plug connectors as they have different sockets from the standard Europe ones. Lovely breakfast with personal friendly service and the best boiled eggs yet, and a good restaurant meal in the evening. This was made more interesting by the goats on the other side of a window, in their own room. (The goats were also the source of quite a few flies in the restaurant). The only other negative was that the TV didn’t work at all, but who needs TV in such a lovely place? Note- the main road up from Gams to Wildhaus was blocked and we had to find the way up from the next village (Grabs). This was an experience we would have preferred NOT to have had, as we wound our way up the mostly single lane road, hanging off the edge of the mountain and dodging oncoming traffic. However this was not the fault of the lovely people at Hotel Schoenau.

Reviewed By 795jazzyjayHirschen Wildhaus is a great place to stay in Toggenburg. I’ve stayed here many times, and always have the greatest stay. It’s a great starting point for many hikes and a ton of activities to do in the area. Atmosphere is chill with a good vibe. The rooms are modern and clean. The views are outstanding and the food amazing. Service and owners of hotel are impeccable! Simply Thai restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious and authentic dishes, beautiful presentation, great cocktails and wonderful dessert. I recommend this hotel and and restaurant to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again. Thanks for another great stay! Jasmine

Comfortable Hotel and Good Restaurant
Reviewed By Margot NWe stayed here for one night as we needed to be in the area early the next morning. The hotel is in a very old building dating from the late 1800's and has a ski chalet feel to it. There is a choice of rooms with private facilities and others with shared facilities. We chose one with the private bathroom and toilet. The room was large and basic with traditional wood paneling on the walls but it was very clean and it had a nice homely feel to it. We were on the top floor and had lovely views out over the valley. The restaurant is obviously very popular with the locals and we could see why when we went down for dinner. Good, hearty German style home cooked meals were on the extensive menu. A nice continental breakfast was included in the tariff. If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I went back last year and, since none of the great features of Hotel Friedegg (it means 'quiet corner' in Swiss German) had changed, I did not update my review. This time, the good news is that still nothing has changed, meaning it is still perfect. It is far less a commercial hotel experience than like visiting your favourite auntie's house as a welcome guest. The rooms still have no TV (a blessing in this 'quiet corner'), the wooden floors still creak in a charming way (but everyone is in bed and asleep early anyway), the welcome and attention from Frau Benyat are as warm as before and the food from Herr Giger's kitchen is as fresh, tasty and healthy as it always was. This is the nearest hotel to the ski lift at Wildhaus - a resort that continues to invest heavily despite being a low-altitude ski station. The resort tries hard to make sure that the pistes are in perfect condition and new activities, facilities and pistes are being added each year. The view from all front bedrooms in Hotel Friedegg is unsurpassed, with a front-of-house outlook onto the magnificent Churfirsten Range and the main pistes. This is not a hotel, or resort, for Verbier or Zermatt sophisticates, but for those who enjoy simply mixing with locals, enjoying local fresh food and wines and quietly relaxing over great dinners at night in a family atmosphere, there is none better than Hotel Friedegg and Wildhaus,

Unsere Zimmer lagen strassenseitig, bei einem längeren Aufenthalt würde der Lärm wohl stören. Wir hatten 5 Zimmer für eine Nacht gebucht um einen Geburtstag zu feiern. Das haben wir bereits bei der Reservation erwähnt.Auch das Nachtessen im hauseigenen Restaurant haben wir im Voraus reserviert. Der Empfang war eher nüchtern. Die Jubilarin musste ihr Geburtsdatum angeben und machte noch eine Bemerkung über den bevorstehenden Geburtstag. Keine Reaktion. Dafür wurde das Covid-19 Schutzkonzept abgegeben. Am Abend wurden nun unsere Gruppe von 7 Personen an zwei Tische nebeneinander platziert. Trotz Schutzkonzept sass eine andere mehrköpfige Familie gerade gegenüber. Das à la Carte Essen wurde von sehr gut bis mittel beurteilt. Eher unter "originell" ist der Service einzuordnen. Es kam das Frühstück am nächsten Tag mit dem Geburtstag. Wir hatten um einen runden Tisch gebeten, um gemeinsam gemütlich zu frühstücken. Wir erhielten zwei runde Tische, die weder ein Tischtuch hatten, noch irgendeine Art von Dekoration. Erst als wir Geschenke auf den Tisch stellten, wurde gratuliert. Das war's aber auch schon. Das Frühstück ist gut, mit einer grossen Käseauswahl. Es ist eine Mischung von Selbstbedienung und Service an den Tisch. Fazit für uns: ein schönes Zimmer alleine reicht nicht.

The early hikers and mountaineers more than 100 years ago were impressed. And they were tired too. Already then they could get a drink in 1912, when the "Wirschaft zur Apenrose" opened the doors. Only a few years later it turned into the "Gasthaus zur Alpenrose" offering lodging in only a few guestrooms. In the meantime Stump's Alpenrose has become one of the leading conference Hotel in Eastern Switzerland. Many things grew bigger and got more modern. But one fact has not changed since the beginning: the unique location and the warm and heartful hospitality. Total of 50 rooms. Single-, double-, three bedded- and four bedded rooms. Special Family rooms. Restaurant seating 250 People seperately in cosy and charming rooms. 6 banquet rooms and Seminar as well as conference facilities for up to 200 People. A sundeck with 150 places sheltered from the sun and the wind. The wellness parlour on 400 square meters with fitness, 2 saunas, whirlpools, salt-steam-bath, herbal steam-bath, solarium, kneipp-bath, infra-red-cabine, massages and Treatments as well as the colour-water-sound-bed. All rounded up with a beautiful garden, a small stream and bushes giving room to rest up.

Reviewed By faddarioWe REALLY enjoyed our stay at Stumps Alpenrose. All the staff at the hotel ranging from Reception to Restaurant were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent as was the service.... the "Hirsch Rücken Medallions" deserves a special mention as it was the best we have ever eaten! The hotel has a small but well equipped fitness room and a lovely spa area. For children there are outside trampolines plus a games room for kids close to the restaurant. A beautiful spot situated between the Säntis and Churfirsten mountain range.... perfect for hiking !

Reviewed By Nadia196Zweckmässig und zentral gelegen. Keine Reception und Verpflegung. Hauptschlüssel muss an der nahen Talstation gegen ein Depot abgeholt und bei check-out gebracht werden. W-LAN gratis. Parkplatz tagsüber hinter dem Haus kostenlos. Abends muss das Auto umparkiert werden. Für 4 Personen sind die Zimmer relativ klein, Zimmer gegen die Hauptstrasse können etwas laut sein. Nachts ok. Wer einfach eine zentral gelegene Unterkunft braucht ok.
