A beautiful hotel. Food & beverage lets it down.

Reviewed By nick164

Food & beverage offering and service is what really lets this hotel down. I’m being generous with a 4 star, just because the rest of the staff are very nice and the hotel itself is beautiful. Andorra was a bit of a milestone for me - my 50th country travelled to. I’ve been fortunate to experience many fine hotels and whilst Sports Hotel Hermitage (a member of the LHW) has glimmers of a true 5 star, the food & beverage service in particular leave it falling short. Some of the staff are great - attentive and personable - whilst others are just going through the motions. The arrival experience was not the best. The hotel car park was locked and there was no check-in/temporary parking out front. Checkin Itself was very efficient - albeit lacking an orientation on the hotel facilities, the need to download an app for hotel information/menus/etc. The room was beautifully appointed, spacious and with a great view of the slopes. As a LHW member, a welcome gift was provided - some chocolates and a bottle of olive oil. Whilst appreciated, a bottle of wine would have been more practical as can be enjoyed during the stay. The “king” bed was not a king, but two singles with no mattress topper. Housekeeping staff were excellent - always acknowledging you as you passed, and referring by name on any visits to the room. The room was serviced daily to a high standard including the turndown service. F&B is what really lets the hotel down. Bar service was consistently underwhelming - inattentive and on one occasion clumsy (oblivious to spilling wine as they poured a glass). A daiquiri was served in a dirty glass with red speckles on the inside - on drawing it to the waiters attention they initially claimed it was lemon juice. Vegetarian options at all hotel restaurants including room service are almost non-existent - the single dish of pasta with baby vegetables & poached egg consisted of almost zero vegetables and an extremely undercooked poached egg. Breakfast was inattentive - tea and juice orders forgotten, no offer to replenish your juice, extra place setting not removed, hot food sitting at the pass unserved in full view of staff. There was a good buffet selection and an a la carte menu, noting the scrambled eggs were very dry and a side order of toast was taken but not delivered. The hotel concierge is hard to find. Directed by the hotel staff to the spa next door, it is the poorest concierge experience of any hotel I’ve stayed. Enquiring as to good walking tracks, a booklet (vague on directions) was thrust into my hand with no advice forthcoming. I’ve had better experiences in my younger years in a youth hostel when backpacking.

Starting with the good things.. food good choice if you can’t find something you like then you shouldn’t be travelling.. location good for lifts 5min walk, (Not ski in ski out)great view from Back facing rooms great. Bar staff and drinks great with a great magician for one of the nights entertainment. Bad points Old dated hotel, rooms smalls and dark. Bathrooms old with broken toilet seat, tile grout missing, mini small bath with shower over it. Maybe an English thing but no drink making facility in room for tea or coffee. We were on second floor and corridors smelt of sewage. Spa not that great, dirty grime layer just above pool water line. and they ask 10€ per person which is hidden on web site and not shown on booking. Reception staff answer was “well it doesn’t say it’s free either!” Reception staff not very helpful. Free water on booking means a small bottle in room on first day, not replaced. None of the nice things like disposable slippers, replaced water, shampoos etc you would expect in a four star. Most unbelievably is no clothes hooks to hand sports gear on, not even in bath room, or behind a door, just a small wardrobe. For a hotel offering sports winter and summer come on think about your guests and room use. Boot/ski room you need a padlock of own or borrow one from reception for a deposit. skis and boots locked in metal cabinet with no heaters (opps sorry one fan blower that didn’t seam to work) so boots don’t dry! Would we stay again… No…would we recommend it no, not until management take comments seriously. Reading other reviews many have similar comments going back a few years, yet nothing has been done.

These nice apartments, located between Grau Roig and Soldeu accesses to Grandvalira ski resort are simply great! They have views over one the slopes, they have a free spa (with views, also), they have lockers for skis, they offer transport to the resort, and they are fully equiped!! Management is also kind and helpful. You may argue it is not cheap but we found worth every euro we spent there. Whenever we'll go back to Grandvalira to ski, we'll definetely stay there again

Overall a good choice.

This hotel is good value, it is clean, has friendly staff and is only a 6-7 minute walk to the Gondola Station. The bar area is also comfortable and good value and was visited by locals/seasonal workers on occassions. There are no additional leisure facilities at the hotel. The food was plentiful and the room was of reasonable size however there are aspects of meals and the room that could easily be improved. The food selection and quanity available was good, however cooked items for all meals were prepared early and then left under heated lamps and so some items became dry and overcooked, eggs at breakfast and lamb at dinner being two examples. Instead of spending a significant time preparing so much food in advance of meal times, the kitchen would do better to refresh the dishes on two or three occassions during mealtimes. Our room was a good size, clean and had comfortable beds and a fully functional bathroom with plenty of hot water. However although there was plenty of wall space, there were no hooks to hang damp ski gear and outdoor clothing, not even on the back of the door and there was very limited hanging or drawer space. All three of these things are absolutely essential in a ski hotel. These critisisms could be so easily fixed, I hope the owners can address these issues. I would definately return and strongly recommend this hotel to those on a budget if they were.

We had a duplex apartment, plenty of space for family of 4. Lovely views across to mountains. Kitchen had everything needed to prepare basic meals. Within easy walking distance of local restaurants. About 10 mins walk up to the gondola station. The underground parking was fine, bit on the tight side but that's normal. Friendly staff, including very helpful cleaning lady.

Perfect hotel for a large group

Reviewed By TwoDinners15

Hotel Peretol, including Laura and her amazing team - especially Bruno and Lutxi, was the perfect place for our group of 18. The whole team looked after us so well including booking 18 seats at a local restaurant, advising on everything from car parking to ski routes, aswell as arranging our lift passes and ski hire prior to arrival. The hotel is in the perfect place if you like the fun park and allows ski in ski out. It's a little way out of town, but this really wasn't a problem as the bar is well stocked, and with a group including children we weren't too interested, but if you are keen on going into Soldeu it's only a 3 minute drive. A bit like other reviews, I'm loathed to race too much in case it gets too popular and we're unable to book again!

Snowboarding break with family

Reviewed By mrspsunflowers

My husband booked this break and we got a really good deal through Expedia. The apartment was the perfect size for 3 adults and there is a separate area to store your snowboard stuff and allow it to dry in a separate section of the apartment. We had a lovely view of the mountain from our livingroom and bedroom. The bathroom had a shower, bidet and toilet and was a reasonable size. The kitchen had a dishwasher and washing machine, so perfect for me. We had a meal at the hotel down the road, which is within walking distance. Hotel Peretol, which served lovely home cooked food and is suitable for vegetarians as well. A lovely cosey, friendly atmosphere (an absolute must to book tables in advance). Most restaurants open at 7.30pm and booking is essential! A piece of advice, don't bother paying to park the car in the apartment garage as there is plenty of free parking along the road.
