It was our first visit to Samarkand and we had only two days there, so Bibikhanum Hotel turned out to be a great choice because of, firstly, its location (convenient for many key sights & spectacular views of Bibikhanum Mosque from the hotel and, thanks to Mansur, from our room too!), and secondly, very agreeable breakfasts in a beautiful room. We loved our spacious and beautifully decorated room that literally opened out to the Mosque but was still very sleep-friendly quiet at night. We particularly liked the soft taste of the bottled Samarkand mineral water provided by the hotel daily. All in all, it was obvious why this is such a popular hotel in Samarkand.

Excellent Garden, Great Food, Wonderful Location

Reviewed By Daniel S

We spent 3 nights here during our trip to Samarkand. We really loved our stay here. There are just a few rooms, so it's very intimate. As others have commented, the garden in the center of the property is absolutely lovely -- we spent several lazy afternoons reading and drinking tea here. Location is really great -- just steps away from the Tamerlane Mausoleum, and a pleasant 15 or so minute walk from the Registan. The breakfasts here (which include jams from the garden) were absolutely fantastic. We also stayed in for dinner one night -- vegetable soup, various Uzbek mezzes, and beef plot -- that was a real treat, and highly recommended. The women who run this property were very kind, helpful in arranging taxis, and engaging to talk with. Our only small complaints would be that the room was a little tight on space, and the property itself is not historical. Overall, however, we would highly recommend Antica to anyone heading to Samarkand.

L'Argamak

Argamak is a brand new hotel born from the Uzbek-French partnership. And because of that, it is built with all modernity which western people need, as well as in traditional architectural style for which a foreigner is looking for when going abroad. Hotel is perfectly located at the heart of the historical part of Samarkand, with the most important sightseeing nearby. Gur-Emir mausoleum is about 5 minutes' walk, the Reghistan square is about 10 minutes' walk. The hotel has got a terrace at garden's level, and it is a real pleasure to have a breakfast there, or have a drink. Another terrace at the last storey is also at your disposal: a panoramic view at best known monuments opens from there.

Disappointed

A small beige bedroom overlooking a builders yard and rubbish tip. Cheap toiletries and horrible towels. Had to pay upfront on arrival without seeing room. Very overpriced. Only positives were the rose filled courtyard and nice breakfast

Warm family run hostel

Reviewed By TazFox29

We had 3 nights in our own room with an en-suite bathroom. The room was small but clean and perfect for the price. We were lucky enough to spend some time getting to know the manager Aziz and his father. They were really helpful and very nice people. The father provided pickup and drop off at the train station, taxis into town and a day trip to Urgut all at reasonable prices, a family run business. We looked forward to the nice breakfasts in the morning and walked to the major sites. Well recommended hostel. Best of luck Aziz!

Not great

Reviewed By EmmBee05

Our entry and check-in process was recorded by a videographer without our permission. This is unacceptable and even an offence. On objection we were told the clippings would be deleted, but who knows! The rooms are basic, decent for the cheap price, but not comfortable. Beds are creaky, upholstery is gaudy. Housekeeping is pretty shoddy. They do not replenish toiletries or provide water in rooms or replace used glasses. We had to ask them several times for water and carry bottles back to our rooms. There are no elevators so to drag a heavy suitcase all by yourself is a challenge. Of course the staff did not help us, but were happy to help the other 'white' customers. This is one thing we (brown-skinned) faced throughout our travel through Uzbekistan. The only saving grace is the breakfast spread. This family-run place is suitable only if you are travelling light and on a budget, and can ignore cold behaviour.

Place to stay in Samarkand

Reviewed By Globetrotter008

The hotel is located along the small Kurbiy street, just behind the magnificent Registan. There is a roof terrace with great views of the monument, especially at night when all the lights are on. My room was very spacious and well equipped, with plenty of wardrobe space. There was a huge bed and plenty of seating and choice of lighting from bright to ambient, which makes a pleasant change from dimly-lit modern hotel rooms. There was a small safety box and slippers were also provided. WiFi signal was good. Bottled water was provided. The bathroom was on the smallish side but quite adequate. Generous selection of toiletries was provided. Breakfast, held in the basement room, offered great variety of traditional and usual dishes with fabulous selection of cakes. The staff in there were ever so helpful and friendly. Minor Hotel is a happy little place in this magnificent city and we have spent very relaxing time there.
