5 star hotel with a few shortcomings

Reviewed By Vastgoeddominee

The Hilton Costabella Resort is a new hotel which was build in 2021. We stayed here in June for holidays. This hotel has a few upsides but also shortcomings. Shortcomings The design of the rooms and corridors is not so good. The space between between the bathroom en cabinet for clothes is small. When you open the door of the cabinet, it will block the passage when you step out of the bathroom. The wall tiles in the bathroom do not continue up to the ceiling. There is a gap of plaster between the wall tiles and the ceiling. This looks like they have had to economize during the construction, and this does not give the luxury look and feel you expect at a 5-star hotel. The corridors have hard tiles on the floors which means the acoustic in the corridors is bad. In the room you will hear the noise from the carts and trolleys running through the corridors. The large glass windows in the corridors make the acoustics even worse. It would have been better if the owner of the hotel had chosen a softer material for the floors. The design from the outside looks like a gallery where shower screens have been placed to divide the balconies of the rooms. This looks basic and cheap for a 5-star hotel. The main restaurant is good and offers a la cart menu. But on Friday and Saturday this restaurant only offers a buffet menu which is a disappointment. The choice of the buffet is limited compared to the a la cart menu. And for this limited buffet you will pay around 50 Euro per person which makes it a very expensive buffet. It is better not to eat in the main restaurant on Friday and Saturday, but to choose another restaurant. There is the option to have a meal or breakfast at the executive lounge situated directly next to the main restaurant. But do not expect to have peace and relaxation here since also families with babies and toddlers are allowed inside the executive lounge. It would have been better to make this an adult only zone like most luxury hotel brands do. There are a few villas which have more space if needed. But these villas are located next to the main restaurant or swimming pool. This means you will not have any privacy on the balcony or terrace, since people from the restaurant can look straight down at you. And of course there is lots of traffic and noise from the swimming pool and people walking back and forth. So basically these villas are not worthwhile staying at if you are looking privacy and peace. Upsides The location of the hotel is very nice. All rooms are facing the sea. And also the sea and coastline can be seen from the swimming pool and restaurant. Also the beach and swimming pool are facing the West which means lots of sun during the afternoon and evening. If you like lots of sunshine this hotel is perfect for you. There are many bars and a couple of restaurants to choose from. All of them offer good food and drinks. Breakfast is in the main restaurant and consists out of an extensive buffet with many options to choose from. Most food is brought in locally which means all ingredients are fresh and tasty. The Croatian kitchen is very divers and good. If you like fish and meat, this is the perfect place for you to have dinner. And many dishes are topped off with truffles which the region is famous for. The best restaurant is located on top of the hotel which is the Nebo restaurant. They offer a 7 or 11 course meal and you need to make reservations and make sure you have lots of time to enjoy your meal. Nebo restaurant has a michelin star rating, so expect a culinary journey though the local cuisine of Croatia. Highly recommendable. Only downside is that the Azure lounge is located next to the Nebo restaurant and people will be walking back and forth through the restaurant in order to get the lounge. Luckily when we were here it was not very busy, but we can imagine more traffic during high season. Also worthwhile is the spa with indoor facilities including a sauna, steam rooms and indoor swimming pool. These facilities are spacious and are a good alternative if it is a cloudy or rainy day. There is also a beauty and hair salon in case you are still unsure of your looks. Hotel staff is friendly and motivated. Croatia is an European country but still relatively poor and highly dependable on tourism just like Greece or Spain for example. Most local people are employed in the tourism industry. So, giving tips to housekeeping for example is appreciated. Rooms, restaurants and facilities are clean and well maintained. So in conclusion this hotel is a good option if you to need to visit Croatia and are able to spend lots of money. Keep in mind that this hotel is relative expensive for what it offers. Also a good hotel for holidays, but not longer than one week. Most activities and highlights in Croatia can be found in other regions and you need to also stay in the region of Split for example to see more of Croatia. The Hilton Costabella is officially a 5 star hotel, but within the 5 star hotel brands there is a upper (for example St Regis, Ritz-Carlton etc.) and a lower luxury segment. Despite the relative expensive rooms and meals, this Hilton is categorized within the lower luxury segment.

Most of its 66 nicely furnished single and double rooms and 3 luxurious apartments are with a balcony and a beautiful view of the sea. Staying at this hotel provides a unique atmosphere of the old Mediterranean but with all modern facilities for tourists and business guests. The food was more or less ok, but it was the same every day. The hotel has beach which is ok for reflressing but deep and cold and big waves because of the passing shippes. Really less opportunity for find good restaurant. But in total I recommend good value for money.

Teatro Rooms was just amazing. Located in a historical building in Rijeka, it has a great location just in front of the city's theatre. The rooms were modern and good looking and the bed was really comfy. Plus, they also have a lounge bar downstairs where you can have a drink or breakfast in the morning. Couldn't recommend it more ?

CITY AND BUSINESS 4 STAR HOTEL IN RIJEKA, CROATIA Perfectly located in the heart of Rijeka, right on the Korzo, and 5 minutes walk away from the port with its trendy bars, Bonavia is the best hotel in Rijeka for business and weekend getaways. All museums, interesting churches and monuments worth seeing are at a walking distance. Bonavia is a hotel with over 140 years long tradition and whether you've come for business or pleasure, you'll love your comfy room, with great Wi Fi and comfortable beds with hard mattresses. If you can, choose a room with a balcony on the upper floors, as the sea view alone is worth it and you get a nice seating area outside to enjoy the sunsets. Gym is intimate, with a nice and clean wellness area, saunas and massages. Breakfasts are good and varied, with fruits, cheese, cold cuts, croissants, and biscuits spread out or served by kind and helpful personnel. Eggs prepared to your liking, of course.

A retro style

Reviewed By RicherTrips

It’s a big, modern hotel but it’s decoration stuck in the 80’s. It has a spacious lobby. If you arrive by car, give them a call so they rise the parking bar. Elevators are small, but there are two. Our room was spacious, with the European style king size bed, slightly smaller than normal. It had a good closet, safe box and minibar. The bathroom had a small tub, a counter for the sink, old style tiles and the hosed kind of hairdryer that is impossible to hold with bare hands. The tub is one step higher that the bathroom floor, so you might need a hand to step out. It´s definitely dangerous for seniors.

DON’T BOOK THIS HOSTEL!!

Reviewed By Ebba R

When we first got to the hostel we tried calling both numbers on the website, but neither of them were in use. Buy luck we got into the hostel because another couple was leaving, but there were still nobody in the reception. Finally the host answered on email that he would be there in 20 min. He got there after more than one hour and he was also drunk. He did not apologies for being late. Further more there were some more problems: - No air conditioning or Wi-Fi (which there should be according to the web site) - Only one towel in the room (we asked for one more and the host said we would get one in one hour but we never got one) - We booked a double bed but the bed we got was two single beds put together with a big gap in between so we had to sleep in different beds. We were really surprised concidering all the good reviews that this place got, maybe they changed owner recently??

Business hotel without internet service ?

Reviewed By Hans_Jorgen_Jensen

Hotel is a little run down and is not really given any love or attention by owners. The room is a little outdated and bathrooms are dull..If you are looking for a "retro communist" experience this could be an option.... The internet does not work on the top floors or in either end of the hotel - so look for a room on top of the reception if you need internet..... They know of the issue, but there is apparantly no interest in spending a few hundred euros for 3-4 strong routers to take of the issue..... Only thing which was nice was the breakfast.... reasonable selections of good quality.

Very nice Hostel! First we were a bit concerned because you have to drive through the industrie. The house is what you expect from a hostel. But the rooms are very new and clean and way more then what you expect from a hostel. Also the owner and a young woman (don‘t know if its her thoughter) were so friendly and recommanded us good restaurants and we felt instantly at home. Also the breakfast for 3 euros or 25 kuna was great. Also worth mentioning is the free yoga lesson in the morning and the room that you can always use when its free. Even if we are not very into yoga and didnt try it.

One extremely rude staff

Reviewed By Cherie C

I was here for a night with a friend, the hotel itself was not bad. But the reason the rating is low is due to a member of staff, we came back to the hotel to collect our suitcases, which was behind the counter. We were waiting, not sure if he was going to bring it out, he then said to us “go on then.” I also had a really bad cold and needed tissue, I couldn’t see him anywhere to ask him for some, so went to get some myself as there was a massive roll of tissue, he appeared and shouted at me saying “you are not allowed in here”I got scared and said sorry, he then said “ well go on then”, to rip the tissue, I didn’t do it quick enough, so he ripped it for me in a passive aggressive manner and muttered something under his breath. I am a frequent traveller, and I have never met a employee that is so so rude. I am writing this review in hope management will speak to him. I don’t know his name, but he was working on Tuesday, the 24th of August at around 7-8pm.
