La Montagne Bed and Breakfast

Perfectly fine and a lovely nights sleep

Reviewed By Jennifer G

The tiny town of Riebeek Kasteel is a delightful soup of small owner-occupied shops, from clothing to brewery to hardware, etc.. Sitting atop the town, like the jewel in the crown, is the old hotel, looking inviting and priced as reasonably as the B&Bs. If I'd done the booking, it would have been at the old hotel. However, we stayed at La Montagne Guest House which was perfectly fine, quite comfortable, but a bit too homey and over-decorated for me. Our hostess was a charmer, but we were still sleeping in the room off the kitchen, decorated by my granny. Breakfast was a treat, with fruit-filled pancakes as a prelude to eggs and bacon. I have nothing negative to say about La Montagne, but if ambiance is important, stay at the refurbished hotel.

Brambleberry Farm

Very pretty and quiet

Reviewed By Freda E

We felt at home here with two big dogs pottering around and the sheep coming in for the night. Our host and hostess were friendly and spoilt us with some fresh eggs. Comfortable suite with a lounge looking over the farmlands to the mountains. A tiny but functional bathroom and a king size bed. The full English breakfast was delicious and included fresh muffins. The access road can be challenging in wet weather for a sedan unless it has good clearance. About 5 km to Riebeek Kasteel.

The Royal Hotel

"The grand old lady finally has her new dress on" is what the locals said when The Royal was refurbished and upgraded to the highest standards in 2005/2006. After serving more than seven generations, the oldest hotel of the Western Cape occupies a very special place in the hearts of both local and international visitors.

Worth a visit

Wonderful huge rooms, lovely pool, friendly staff. A lot of lovely restaurants in the area. Breakfast the next morning at the hotel was 5*. Well worth a visit, even if it is just to sit on the stoep and drink a gin while the sun sets.

Two day stay

Reviewed By eswart541907

Thank you fir a lovely stay . The accommodation was great. I enjoyed being left alone and the whole place for myself. Shades of Provence is a place with lots of character and very special. It was so peaceful. The garden is lovely but really needs a lot of TLC. The two Guava trees in the front are busy destroying and overgrowing the lovely shrubs and other trees. If not removed it will spoil the whole outlay of the garden. I nearly offered to stay there for 2 weeks to fix up the garden. It has so much potential to become a stunning garden. Be once again it was a lovely and most enjoyable two days. Thank you so much. Estelle

Red Tin Roof

Red Tin Roof is a manor house that has been sleeping guests, feeding strangers and quenching thirsts for decades. The new owners gave her a complete facelift and donned her in new colours. Known as a bit of a party animal, they enlarged the bar - and added another! They have re-vamped her from head to toe and decorated her with an eclectic mixture of art and collectibles from around the world.

Very good value

Reviewed By tjames419612

Everything and everone was very pleasant here, and it is great value. My only dissatisfaction was with the breakfast coffee - I like plunger coffee, but this was watery and poor (both mornings), and warm milk would have helped compensate for the thick, cold cup. Note that the bedrooms leak sound from the central lounge area when this is being used, but that was seldom any problem.
