On the face of it, this hotel should be a winner. A great location right in the heart of Gothenburg with easy access via train, bus, boat and tram, a lovely bar and a restaurant on site, together with friendly staff. What’s not to like? Unfortunately, the rooms in the old wing of the hotel. There is no climate control or air conditioning in the rooms, and if you therefore need to open a window to cool, you will get city centre noise all night. My room had worn and dated furniture, but the biggest surprise was that it had curtains which simply didnt fit the windows - big gaps either side. If your idea of a good nights sleep is quiet, dark and at a sensible temperature, then these rooms will do literally nothing for you. Also note that the hotel’s restaurant does not open on several week nights - although there are plenty of other options nearby. Worth noting that the breakfast venue gets crowded quite early too.

A disappointment

The location is excellent and the breakfast is good but it was suprisingly dirty. We hade to change rooms once and the second room was only marginally cleaner. Sticky floors and dirty surfaces. Also dust bunnies under the bed and sofa. The hallways on both floors hadn’t been vacuumed. You can ”personalize” your stay by adding dinner and a spa visit but both reservations were not communicated properly. We did manage to get it sorted and both the spa and the dinner at Noot was great.

To me, its an absolute mystery how this hotel can be a 4.5 star hotel. Poor service and long ques to everything from check-in, elevators (we waited 15 mins to get an elevator to our room from breakvast). Rooms, lobby, hallways dirty and smelly. Overall hotel extremely torn, probably an effect of covid where hotel has obviously not been able to invest in its maintenance. Breakfast a disgrace with below budget standard options. Standard is on par with a 2-star hotel. Two plus sides: Restaurant excellent, beds comfy.

Quick to charge, but not to deliver a good service

Reviewed By MJbap

This hotel has been beyond disappointment. I stayed 10 nights with my family, they only cleaned our room once - and just because I begged them to come. As standard they only clean rooms every 3 days, but they missed my days. When I came back with my little children the room was all dirty. The only solution was to do a quick clean when I came back by someone in the reception. My cleaning was missed regardless I reminded them twice about it the day before and even on the same morning, to make sure someone was coming on my “nominated” day. On top of that the food was terrible. After staying here for a few days you start to know how the food is being re-used from one meal to the other. And the food starts not looking fresh anymore. The food was so bad that we stopped turning up for dinner regardless we payed for half board. Also the meal option for dinner are not really child friendly. I payed for half board just to give to my children a meal in the room. Overall a terrible and disssapointing experience. The only thing they didńt miss is charging money. But this hotel hasńt delivered at all to even its most basic responsibility of having rooms clean. I suggest you avoid at all costs. We wont be turning up here ever again!!

Modern design hotel with a good location

Reviewed By Mikael F

This stylish hotel is located on Kungsportsplatsen. The stop for the Landvetter Flygbuss is in front of the hotel. Our Deluxe Terrace room was spacious and it has a nice terrace with a horse lamp and great views towards the Market Hall. The room was well equipped. There were for example Bvlgari toiletries in the bathroom. As a Nordic Choice Platinum member, I was offered an upgrade to a Deluxe Jacuzzi room. These rooms are located on the other side and have a jacuzzi on their terraces. However, the views are not so great and we opted to stay in the originally booked room. The big bathtub was enough for us. The breakfast was very busy. The food selection was great and of good quality. However, we like to have our breakfast in a calmer atmosphere. Our stay had excellent value for 220 euros. This weekend was very busy in Gothenburg and the hotel prices were high.

Clarion Hotel Post

The post office on Drottningtorget in Gothenburg is an impressive, much-appreciated public building. Designed by Ernst Torulf, it is a typical 1920s building in neo-classical style and has been designated an historical building by the Swedish State. The building is now to be developed into an efficient, modern hotel facility suited to contemporary requirements for logistics and functionality.A new building containing 500 hotel rooms with a rooftop sun terrace and pool overlooking Gothenburg is to be constructed next to the old post office, on the site of the old loading yard that faces Akareplatsen and Odinsgatan. Half of the facade will be covered with slate and the other half with copper - the same materials used in the original post office building. The facade and terrace facing Drottningtorget will feature an open design, thus forming a welcoming entrance for the new hotel. From the entrance, it will also be possible to walk through the hotel out onto Akareplatsen and then on to Odinsgatan. The remaining parts of the terrace will be retained and used as an outdoor service area during the summer months.

Was seen naked in my room by a random person - would not recommend Nordic choice hotel

Reviewed By lylnas

Do not recommend this hotel for families but more than that do not recommend Nordic choice! I called and asked for an 180 cm bed and in which customer support at Nordic choice said all beds are 2x90 beds. Once check in I received a 160 bed and as a result they changed my room to a wheelchair accessible room with a 180 bed. The bed itself was uncomfortable with the middle part sticking out. The old part “hornet” was out of date and it turned out the AC was broken blowing cold air at 25 degrees. After calling reception 3 times and trying to get it sorted, they finally confirmed that they can’t fix it and need to change my room. Unhappy about the situation, and with a sleeping baby at this point, we started to look for a new room and received a room in the newer refurbished part with a 160bed. At this time I was so tired that despite it having stairs to enter and difficulties with a pram, I accepted and took the room. Once there, I was ready to have a shower and got undressed when a random person entered my room. It turns out they had checked in 2 people to the same room. They had no phones in the room for me to call and I couldn’t reach their phone line via mobile (it’s impossible). The next day I phoned Nordic choice and the person was apologetic and was looking into how to compensate me for the terrible night I had but the phone line was disrupted from their end and no one returned my call. I explained the situation to reception and was told as I had prepaid it on Nordic Choice website they couldn’t help. A very nice lady named Kajsa offered vouchers for another stay. As there was no other alternative I took the vouchers. Out of principle, I then called Nordic choice to make a follow up and I did mentioned that I preferred to have my money refunded as the stay was not worth 3,300sek. A normal stay at Their hotel is about 1200 so I already knew I had overpaid. I even paid for 2 people although it was only one person staying to ensure I received a 180 cm bed. It was disappointing to talk to a very unpleasant customer service representative at Nordic choice on the 10th of June at 13:00. He was rude and his tone was neglectful. It’s disappointing how disconnected this hotel is - their system does not speak to each other, head office don’t have the right information, their phone waiting lines are extortionate, their staff at head office are careless and not customer service oriented. As a result of this horrible experience, I would never recommend a stay with Nordic Choice hotel.
