Top 10 hotels in Frederikshavn, Denmark

August 10, 2022 Sachiko Swiger

This bustling transport hub, site of the terminal for ferries to and from Norway, is a city of 25,000. Primarily a hectic ferry port and shopping pit stop, it's popular with Swedes and Norwegians, who visit to stock up on appealingly priced meat and alcohol. If you miss your ferry or tire of edible and potable on-shelf options, visit Bangsbo Museum, an open-air attraction full of 18th-century buildings, 14th-century ruins, antique farm equipment and handicrafts created from hair and WWII relics.

If not there for the waterland, stay away

Rooms are in need of renovation. Our room lacked towels for everyone and were not cleaned between nights. At 06:30 in the morning, cleaning of the neighbouring room started which woke us up. The room was also very small. Beware that this is a hotel for families visiting "the Reef". So if you are not one of those, stay away because it is quite lively in all areas of the hotel. Especially during breakfast.

I had my friends from UK on visit and my husband arranged spa and wellness treat for us at the hotel. It was a lovely place and we were pampered. There is a spa on the rooftop as well which was nice. The waiter explained the food they served and it was delicious. The hotel rooms were nice and the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Can highly recommend the place!

Good choice in Frederikshavn

Centrally located, on walking distance from railway station and ferry harbour. Nice staff, clean and modern room, excellent breakfast. Yardside view of parking lot is not very inspiring, and my single room was a bit cramped, but I would anyway visit them again and can recommend the hotel.

Bathroom was large but no space for toiletries. Very good location, a 5 minutes walk to main shopping street and 3 minutes to Stena Line ferry docking area. Breakfast: Very good taste and many options.

Renovated hotel in Frederikshavn

Reviewed By 25336MichaelB

After having read the descriptions, we were not surprised. The hotel is situated behind a gas station/ car dealership and has the rooms located "motel style" in a 2-storey building behind the main building. The rooms are newly renovated and offer, in my view, all you need to overnight. The pillows were a bit too thin and small for my taste, but that is my taste. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast which worked fine, even in "Corona times" - nothing fancy, but a good start in the day.

Nice campsite 5km from Oslo ferry terminal

Reviewed By bobjimfred

We've stayed here a few times as it's very convenient for reaching the morning ferry to Oslo. Even in June and July there seems to be only a handful of people with tents, and so there is plenty of space. Most of the guests are in caravans and motor homes. This is a good kid-friendly campsite, with films and activities in the evenings, several playgrounds, pedalcars for rent and a small indoor pool. The beach is clean and nice but always quite breezy when we've been there. There is a small shop at the campsite, but a supermarket about 1km away. There is a funland kids thing just across the road, which has been a very welcome diversion for us when it rains.

Wonderful but Basic Hotel , Fantastic Host

Reviewed By PairADoxCycle

The Danhostel’s are quite numerous throughout Denmark and they share a common theme. Lower cost , basic amenities and in our experience very pleasant, helpful and friendly staff and hosts . Yes , you do have to make your own bed , no ,there is no TV in the room and yes, the breakfast will be basic but filling . The hostel appeals to families, hikers and bicyclists such as ourselves. They are clean , bright and simple . This Danhostel is no exception - the place is very clean , the room has bunkbeds plus one trundle that can be joined with another single to make a double bed . There is a great walking street within 100 meters with some excellent restaurants as well a several markets . There is a common room to watch TV and a fully equipped kitchen if you want to make a meal or a snack . Breakfast was good and plentiful. The host/owner , Ole is exceptionally friendly , goes out of his way to be helpful, and makes the stay here much more pleasant . The hostel is directly on the bicycle trail from Aalborg to Skagen . Will return again on our next trip to Denmark

The pub was ok, pool tables did not work, tried several times and she eventually said use the other one. The rooms were clean and comfy. Breakfast was ok, but no bacon.... ok We paid for a 3 course meal in the evening expensive, Zero service or information, we had to call each time to ask, 30 mins between each course, no sign of waitress, I even said to the waitress who took out plates that we needed to go soon and can desert be quick she said yes and it was 20 mins for ice cream and a cold pancake. Food: We too different starters, both of us liked but commented on the salt. Main, Nice again it became salty to me and my partner, again two different dishes we both found too salty. Desert: We asked for this right after the main to be delivered quick as we wanted to go, it took 25 mins. Ice cream, some nuts crumbled, and a cold crepe roll. The food is insulting, the bill even more so. Stay at the hotel avoid this joke of a restaurant.
