The very best days of our trip to Morocco

Our stay at the riad was just perfect. Said organised everything for us so that we were able to ride the camels, sleep in the desert and in addition do a 1-day trip with a jeep through the desert. He showed us a lot of nice places in the area like oasis and we also visited a normad family for a cup of tea. The riad itself is very clean and the food was really really good - traditional Morrocan cuisine but with more diversity than you get at other places. Siad and his family and friends made us feel very welcome and we will for sure come back on our next trip to Morocco!

First impressions are soon shattered - very poor!!

Although you drive through a gated palm tree lined entrance that’s where perfection ends. This was a truly awful place to stay! As you leave reception, you enter the pool area which is rather nice and well maintained, with plenty of seating for visiting tourists (and there are a lot of visiting tourists). A single pool, it’s clean and tidy. The water was very cold though. Rooms are away from the main building in Butlins style blocks. The blocks are tatty and in desperate need of an update. Ours had water stains down the side of the building from an historic water leak. There didn’t appear to be a great deal of lighting in the grounds either so finding your way or key in the lock without iPhone torch was almost impossible. And don’t forget to press the button by the door to activate your power (found that out ourselves). The bedroom was very basic; again in desperate need of repair and update. Beds are comfy but creaky. Although air con is provided; it switches off halfway through the night as the power to the room shuts off (common in sub Saharan areas apparently). A TV is provided, but there are no English speaking programmes (not even Sky news) so you can’t watch it. Also worth noting, that the hotel staff don’t really speak English so communication can be difficult. The bathroom is desperately in need of decoration and updating, although functional. The hotel is very noisey; guests tend not to care about others and if you’re unlucky enough to have a bedroom just off pool (as we did); it can be very noisey until the early hours. The food is truly awful. Very little choice, not replenished in a timely manner (at busy times) and the seating arrangements in the dining area - confusing! Not a piece of fruit in sight, ‘Paw Patrol’ fromage frais and the blandest Cous Cous I’ve ever eaten. Dining staff are surly and not really helpful, more authoritarian; certainly don’t make you feel valued or welcome. More of a ‘grab a quick bite and leave’ kind of place. The hotel does have a bar (didn’t partake) and WiFi (although WiFi fails if too much ‘traffic’ to get on). Too many tourists in too small a space made this feel more of a ‘transit lounge’ than a comfortable nights rest. Not recommended, and certainly the worst on the list for Voyage Prive. This is certainly the ‘no frills’ hotel on the tour.

Enchanting oasis before or after a Sahara stay (plus, dates you can pluck right off the palm!)

Reviewed By Alan_Stamm_0

Delightful retreat on our pre-tent camp night in the Erg Chebbi desert, highlighted by a romantic poolside dinner (delicious Moroccan fare; no wine available). Large free-form pool is ringed by abundant date palms, with picking invited. (A bowl of dates was laid out.) We had a smallish, comfortable room. Larger suites and free-standing cottages (bungalows) are available in the lushly landscaped, walled compound outside of Erfoud. Pleasant, dusty rural surroundings for brief walk. Fossils/minerals shop nearby. Friendly, accommodating, multi-lingual staff, though unable to break a 100-dirham note for tipping denomination, regrettably. Lodge-atmosphere reception area next to dining room, with outside seating available.

Stayed one night as part of small group tour from UK.Have stayed previously also one night. Mattresses superb, very firm (as most in Morocco).Spacious rooms and spacious bathroom split into two sections.Rooms open onto walkways or balconies set about courtyard areas and the windows are covered in insect mesh so safe to leave open if (like me) you do not believe in wasting electricity on a/c! Ground floor rooms fine for those with limited mobility but do not think there is a lift to upper floor. Was not impressed with breakfast BUT only just re-opened after lockdown so maybe better now tourism increased? Can hear the muezzins from more than one mosque calling out the first call to prayer of the day,so leave a window open as that is a very good way to be at breakfast in good time! Pool is really good and illuminated so one can swim after dusk but it is near reception and bar ,where I think they sell beer,so it is not as secluded as one would like to swim in peace
