The 10th-century St. Johann Baptist Church at Refrath is Bergisch Gladbach's oldest building. Business Trip Stay

Reviewed By David M

Hotel Hansen is a business rather than tourist hotel and people who stay have to be able to communicate in German. My room was clean and of a good size with a small desk space. Downstairs there is a pub which also offers food. It is basic good but good value and size. Breakfast (which was included in the price I paid) was a cold buffet with hot scrambled egg. The buffet included ham, cheese and other goodies. It took 40 minutes to get into Cologne at rush hour by car. If you want something different as a business hotel away from the chains, this would be it.

The building, owned by the Archdiocese of Cologne in the Bockenberg district of Bergisch Gladbach, was built in 1924 as a seminary but is now a conference centre and hotel. The Thomas More Academy in Bensberg is based here and conducts most of its events. The building, which is located on a hill above Bensberg and affords a wide view of the Rhine valley and Cologne, can be reached via a driveway from Overather Straße ( B 55 ) through a gated building in which the flats are housed. The indoor and outdoor spaces and the rooms are spacious, essential but elegant and equipped with every comfort. Attention to the environment and to the needs of each guest are a must, which can be found both in the rooms and in the breakfast area. Anti-covid measures are strictly respected.

Essential, clean and economical

Cosy establishment, really good for guests of the Mediterana spa complex. The rooms are basic but functional, clean and quiet! The adjoining car park is very convenient! The only negative note is the plastic mattress cover, which makes the bed hot at night! The staff is friendly and professional. The prices are really competitive!

Spa arrangment

Reviewed By kimhC2722XV

We have taken the spa arrangement with mediterana. This is ok but not great. If you want to have a vacation with comfort, serenity and the beauty standard of the mediterrana this is not the hotel to go to. But if you just want a room and a bed to stay in for a cheap price than this is a good deal. The foto's of the hotel do not give you an objective look and feel of the experience, go to google street view to have a look around because the area of the hotel is really ugly with an industrial environment and a big very crowdy shopping EDEKA across the street , so this is not a holiday location!!!

In a truly fantastic location, high above the Cologne lowlands and with a wonderful view of Cologne cathedral, one of the largest baroque palaces in Europe awaits you. It is the spirit of history that fills and enchants the 5 star Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg. But today you can enjoy stylish luxury in the magnificent, historic chambers and in unmistakable Althoff ambience. Supplemented by personal service, Joachim Wissler's 3-star cuisine in the gourmet restaurant Vendome and a Beauty & Leading Spa that satisfies even the highest demands.

On track for three stars

Reviewed By KoosenDennie

With fiends (two couples) we enjoyed the gourmet arrangement. The Trattoria Eneteco and Vendôme restaurant were of course different but both very good. It even surprised us that Vendôme has now only two stars of the guide Michelin. They should receive as quick as possible their third star back. The food, the spring menu, the wine suggestions of the sommelier and the service was outstanding. The quality of the hotel including breakfast and the spa was of the highest quality. And the end in total for the gourmet arrangement: very good price-quality.

Excellent staff, location, cleanliness, etc - thank you

My wife and I stayed for one night in late-October 2021 as part of a short road-trip. We were welcomed in a very friendly way (by a young male receptionist/manager) who helped direct our car when we couldn't find the hotel (despite being very near to it) - and were treated really well throughout. Our room was fantastic and the breakfast area is very pleasant. Also great to have such easy parking on site. NB We are (now, belatedly!) reading in some of these reviews that there's some kind of mini-bar (!?) with complimentary drinks... we didn't know/weren't made aware of that, but I guess that may have been our own fault! Damn! Oh well! :-) Anyway, big thanks to the hotel. We would love to stay here again whenever we are back in the area.
