Yamba Backpackers

Yamba YHA resides on the NSW mid-north coast, making it a great stop off between Sydney and Brisbane. This seaside town has fantastic beaches and one of Australia's most famous surf breaks. Yamba YHA has a mix of multi-share dormitory rooms and twin/double accommodation. Enjoy our free Wi-Fi hotspot, premium Wi-Fi Plus, great-vibe bar/café and relax on our rooftop, overlooking the town. The hostel is on the main street, within easy walk of beaches, local pubs and shops. Don't miss Shane's famous $20 tour.

Great coffee and food

Reviewed By michellehD5844JJ

Can't recommend the restaurant here more highly. My sister and I discovered The Wobbly Chook — the restaurant below the atm non-functioning backpackers, due to COVID — during our three day stay in Yamba. It is centred around beer tasting and the huge beer vats can be clearly seen lining both sides of the dining area. The fact you can see the shiny beer processing equipment only enhanced the experience! The atmosphere is casual, vibrant, cool, and inviting. The coffee was exceptional and the food was too. The staff are so nice and friendly. It's got great al fresco tables under huge black umbrellas as well as indoor tables. Go there!!!

Rude owner, dirty and noisy.

- Owner is very rude, especially when things don’t go his way. Politely asked for a refund and his response almost escalated into a tense situation. - Private room was filthy, linen full of dust - There were dogs walking inside the backpackers all day long and I foun several cockroaches in the kitchen area.

Byron Bay YHA

The hostel has both multi-share backpacker rooms, and twin/double rooms with fans. Large decks to relax on. Utter rubbish, spend a few extra dollars and find another place.

I stayed with a friend and on second night was asked to leave as they don't allow drinking or socialising of any kind after 9pm anywhere in the hostel, no talking, no tv...nothing, not in common areas or your room whether it's private or shared...phone and ask! The staff are arrogant, ignorant and plain rude. The establishment thinks they're a resort and the staff arrogantly think they run a 5 star hotel. The place is full of long time homeless hippies wandering around like they own the place, pool is grungy, no fridge space, no freezer, no clean linen offered had to ask, no parking due to people living in campers, no cutlery, no plates, no cooking pots, no cups, expensive surfboard hire, stank from floods, beds are over due for replacement and expensive laundry costs. The site pictures are very misleading . All in all a real flop of a stay, this is a shared view by many other backpackers Ive had the pleasure of meeting elsewhere outside of Byron YHA. Shame on you Byron bay staff and YHA

Ozzie Pozzie Backpackers YHA

Ozzie Pozzie is Port Macquarie’s most highly recommended resort youth hostel by "Lonely Planet" and "Lets-Go" and Port Macquarie’s best value and cheap youth hostel accommodation. While this quiet youth hostels location features a great social atmosphere in a tropical setting, it is only 5 mins walk from town, shops and bars. Richard used his 8 years of backpacking hostels experience to renovate and extend Ozzie Pozzie and operate it as a friendly fun-filled hostel with lots of free extras. Newly extended it is spotlessly clean with two cosy courtyards to meet and greet, and lounges & hammocks to enjoy in a cabana around a palm fringed pool.

Tired and a bit run down

While I felt safe, after hours check-in was fuss free and the kitchen/bathroom facilities were clean the overall condition of this backpackers is run down and tired. The beds were old and soft, bedding and towels were old and well worn. The kitchen was cleaned loudly each night at 10:45pm which woke us each night. I won't stay here again.

A typical hostel. Beds are okay but top bunks don’t have side rails. Had good and clean kitchen and community areas. A lot of the current residents have been there for months which makes it difficult to meet other backpackers. Showers were the best I have had in a hostel! Not a lot to do in Newcastle but it’s nice for a night or two
