Absolutely loved this place!
Reviewed By mvancompStayed for one night while passing through from Salvador to Pipa. Pretty much no one else was staying other than me and my friend, but our experience there was still incredible! Ricardo and Sandro were so helpful trying to sort out buses for us the next day and went out of their way to call the bus companies and tell our taxi drivers exactly where we needed to go. The breakfast was amazing! Definitely one of the best I’ve had in Brazil! Could not recommend this place enough! The rooms were also great and everything was super clean. The pool area was also beautiful and a great place to have a couple drinks at the end of the night.

Reviewed By tcorn1Stroll around this old town and take it all in. Just lovely! Be sure to look down some of the smaller streets for some amazing little places to grab a quick bite while shopping. Some great photos from the top of the hill.

Reviewed By lazulimeloCanto dos artistas is not so much a hostel as it is an experience. An experience of coming home after a long day and being greeted by smiling faces, music, mangoes (summer time). It’s where travelers come to meet each other, share stories, adventure. It’s where staff will take you to explore the local culture of Olinda which is Marakatu, coco and frevo. It’s the kind of place that you walk outside your door and can walk safely up and down the cobble stoned streets where you will inevitably bump into a friend, and next thing you know you’re grabbing a coffee or beers at the Quatro cantos. Look, I typically loathe hostels because of the culture of partying and non sense that takes place around the concept , but this place is an experience of home. I couldn’t recommend it more. Please come. You will not regret it, I promise.

A bizarre experience
Reviewed By GkamaraWe found this Pousada pretty odd...when we arrived it took a while for anyone to let us in, when they finally did we were pointed to our room and given no welcome whatsoever: no mention of things to do, times for breakfast, if there was WiFi etc. The room itself was fine and pretty clean but there were no towels which the booking said we would have. The staff were incredibly noisy, shouting to one another constantly (and needlessly) and waking us up in the morning at 7am with their howls... they were also at times rude, standing and blocking the gate completely ignoring our presence when we were trying to leave. We had read the breakfast was good but in our experience it was very limited and on our first day in particular there was not enough for all the guests. The area is General was also not very clean and there was loads of rubbish in the garden area. No one spoke to us the whole time we were there or really acknowledged our existence. It was very odd indeed. Perhaps it is different in the summer but we felt there was no customer service. We saw lots of nice looking Posadas as we wandered the old town and wished we had made a different choice. I suggest you stay elsewhere.

Reviewed By Sean BI understand prices are inflated in Brazil during Carnival. I paid 230 Brazilian Reis (USD $75) per night for a dorm bed here during the five nights of Carnival. According to the reservation on hostel world there would be 8 beds in the room. The owner however kept adding more and more beds to the room until there were 16 beds packed into the room. With only 1 bathroom. Sixteen people and only one bathroom! You can imagine what that was like. The owner did the same thing in the other rooms of the hostel as well. I do not mind a business owner trying to make money. And I know Carnival is their major event of the year. But I don't like when they take advantage of their guests. Doing something like this destroys the trust between a proprietor and a guest. I assume the owner only cared about short term profits. I personally would be ashamed to treat my guests like this. I had read stories of hostels doing similar in Rio but I had expected more from this place based upon the good reviews on hostel world. The owner provided no explanation and never even tossed any guest a free beer (this is in a country were a beer costs less than USD $1). This is my only complaint. The staff at the hostel were amazing - an incredible group of people. The breakfast was very good. The security very good. The owner was charming, friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful building. The location is great. It would have been an absolutely wonderful Carnival experience at this hostel if the owner hadn't screwed guests over to make some fast money. When i was leaving I got a vague apology, "I'm sorry if there were any problems but you have to understand it was Carnival." Yes, I do understand it was carnival but I also think the owner should be ashamed of her behavior. Don't disrespect your guests because it will hurt your business in the long run.

Buffet over the Beach
Reviewed By JacksonSEWe did not stay at the Hotel Sambura, but we did have lunch in it's restaurant. According to our Brazilian hosts the restaurant is a popular dining location for residents and business owners in the area. We were a group of 16, and stopped in for lunch. Lunch was an appetizing buffet with many choices. For U. S. tastes some of the food was a bit strange in the way it was served and presented. There was one section of cooked vegetables that were served cold. There was no adjacent salad bar, so it did not appear these were offered as salad enhancements. The choices included green beans, brocoli, carrots and other vegetables that could be served cooked or raw. In another way, the buffet was a bit of a blast form the past. One could choose any entree or side dish one wanted, and charges were assessed by weight. Desserts were extra, and no one in our party had dessert. All agreed it was a decent place for lunch, and we would not mind dining there on future trips. The location is on the coast, with a great view of the Atlantic.
