Avoid , avoid, avoid or waste your money!

Please do yourself a favour and AVOID! We definitely wish we did. From looking at other comments and reviews, and the great location we went with here thinking it would be ideal for our short stay but we were so wrong! We ended up not even staying for our two nights that we had paid for because it was so bad! We booked a couples room and when we landed in we were horrified by the state of the room! The sheets had dirty stains, the curtains all mould and the room clearly just not cleaned. Save your money & go elsewhere!

Great Location and Helpful Staff!

Reviewed By davidsG4175XL

Bondi Beach Backpackers is a good, reasonably priced place to stay in Bondi Beach. The location is great, just a half a block from the beach. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance and it's right next door to the post office. ⁣ Richard, the manager, was super helpful and went above and beyond the call of duty when something of mine went missing. Because of all the CCTVs around the place he was able to determine that I was the culprit!! It turned out that I had the missing item with me when I walked by one of the cameras! I had absentmindedly carried it with me instead of leaving it on my bike like I usually do! ? ⁣ Lily, the live-in, assistant manager, was very accommodating and helpful as well. She brings a colorful and cheerful presence to the place and is almost always available to help out with minor or major needs. ⁣ I stayed in Room 6 for a couple of months. There was a bedside table on either side of the bed with a lamp on each. There was a dresser where I was able to put most of my clothes away and there was an extra bunk bed where I spread out the rest of my stuff. I found the mission style bed to be quite comfortable and it matched nicely with the side tables and dresser. ⁣ In the main lounge area, just off the kitchen, there are a couple of big tables with lots of different games. I particularly enjoyed the two chess boards, even though I lost more than I won! There are lots of other games as well and a place for charging one's mobile device. The kitchen has plenty of space for storing one's food, both in and out of the fridge. Richard was good enough to get some extra mixing bowls when I mentioned that there was a need for some! An unexpected amenity was that we weren't required to clean our plates and bowls and silverware, just our pots and pans! ⁣ There was lots of space outside in a protected courtyard and I was able to safely store my bike there. The bike parking was only partially covered so I got a rain cover to protect it fully from the rain. One of the guests found some used exercise equipment so it's possible to get a bit of a workout if you so desire. Once a month, or so, there is a pot-luck meal and there is a gas range outside to cook your food. That's really nice, particularly when the weather is good. ⁣ All in all, Bondi Beach Backpackers was a comfortable, friendly place that I recommend.

Incompetent staff, hellishly noisy night

Reviewed By 979jillm

I stayed at The Alison in a premium queen room with en-suite last Friday night. I booked direct as there was a free late checkout available for direct bookings which was confirmed at checkin. Prior to my arrival I received a series of confused emails from the hotel and my credit card was debited for the full amount before I checked in. This is not a budget hotel at $260 per night! Be aware that their website is misleading as it says the room includes & sleeps 3 but they charged me an additional $26 to squeeze a trundle into the room. The room was small & basic (tiny en-suite with nowhere to put anything) but the bed was comfortable which was the only reason I gave it 2 stars and not one. I was in room 102. It is located near the front door and beside the stairs and the walls are paper thin. At 3am I was woken by the front door slamming and the sound of people using the staircase & hallway. The noise continued constantly until 4.15 and then again at 5.15. This was not muffled noise! This was loud & clear! To make matters even worse, housekeeping staff had not bothered to check whether I had a late check out and thumped & yelled on my door continually from 10.20am until I opened it and told them my checkout was at 12. Checkout was unceremonious without even a “how was your stay”. On the afternoon of my departure I sent an email to The Alison about the overcharging and poor communication. It is now a week later and I have had no response. Pathetic.

DO NOT RECOMMEND

Reviewed By agower151

My partner and I arrived at 5.30 and I got the email to say the reception was going to be opened until 7pm We found our key in the lockbox, Our key had room #46 but didn’t unlock room #46 in fact we were trying to get into someone else’s room. Turns out we were room 51 after we tried to contact the two numbers on the receptions door 6 times until we could get through. We had 5 bags plus a snowboard bag to drag up to the very top of the stairs because our key couldn’t unlock the storage rooms. Since there was no reception open my partner and I couldn’t hire our 2 towels for the night so we had to dry ourselves with a tshirt. The reception wasn’t open the next morning when we checked out so had no clue how to pay. And once again had to call 3 times to get hold of anyone to know what to do. My partner and I left very unhappy with the service they provided us as we have just arrived from New Zealand and had been on the go for 48 hrs. Will not be recommending this hostel to anyone. Cheers

Clean cosy and comfortable!

Reviewed By epapas2018

Stayed in a single room on my own next door to my daughter who has been living here for 3.5 years. I shared the bathroom which was exclusive to our two rooms. My room was comfortable, clean bedding with a small fridge.. Staff were friendly and most helpful when asked. A small shared kitchenette was available to both rooms that my daughter and I occupied. The communal kitchen had excellent cooking facilities for all guests staying. A bus could be caught opposite the residence and take you in 5min. to the Burwood Railway Station or Westfield Shopping Centre. Walking to these places was a safe 10 minutes. The shared common area adjacent to the communal kitchen was clean and comfortable for guests to eat meals, socialise and watch TV. My only small grizzle was that the tv reception in my room was poor even after having help from a friendly staff member. Still, I would have no hesitation in staying here again or recommending this to people visiting Sydney.
