Peaceful and scenic

Reviewed By SwissMissSpokaneWA

We stayed in one of the cottages with a view directly to the fjord. The cottage had a small kitchenette, and there is a larger, group kitchen nearby. We did our laundry here, hanging it up to dry in a drying shed. (There's also a dryer available I think, if you need it.) If you're up for it, hike up the hillside/mountain behind (yellow trail). It's a bit of a steep climb, but the view is amazing. I think you could walk forever. If you're here in late August, there are wild blueberries up there. We stayed 2 nights, and it was a great place to relax and take a breath on our ring road trip.

Hafaldan, Old Hospital hostel

Nestled in the mountainous landscape of the Eastfjords, Seyðisfjorður is a true gem of a town with colourful little houses and a vibrant arts community. In the summer the town is alive with culture events, and when the Norrona ferry docks every week it is transformed into the smallest metropolis in the world. Seyðisfjorður HI Hostel offers accommodation in two different but equally charming historic houses; Hafaldan Harbour & Hafaldan Old Hospital. Hafaldan Harbour is nestled on the north side of the Seyðisfjorður fjord with amazing view from the dining area. Rooms are small & cozy. Ideal for those who seek basic & budget accommodation in Seydisfjordur. Hafaldan Old Hospital is located in the towns centre. The building has been under constant renovation for the last years and is without a doubt one of Icelands most charming hostels with beautiful interior design. The newest pride is the little basements "SPA" where guests can enjoy a Sauna & relax after a busy day of sightseeing.

Nice and cozy place

Reviewed By philmbg

The hostel is located in the village with a very nice view on the montains, the village and the sea. Room and beds are big and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Sauna in the ground floor very nice too ! As it's an old building with old doors, it's somehow loud. Hosting people are very friendly and advise you about what to do on site.

Snowed-in IN JUNE!

Reviewed By troycesolley

We were fortunate enough to experience the worst snow storm in June in over 40 years while in Iceland. The snow created a beautiful scene but this Texas born and raised travelers was not about to be the guy stuck out in it. We opted to spend the night at this wonderfull spot. The private room was warm, quiet and clean. The entire place looked brand knew and was well maintained. The owner and host were exceptionally nice and helpful. Unfortunately we couldn't explore the property due to the snow. I have this place earmarked for a return trip. 5 waterfalls a short hike away, a hot pot, great accomadations and great hosts. It's a win in every way.

Fantastic horse riding experience

Reviewed By Nivare

Wonderful 2h horse riding experience. We were a family of 4 with nearly no horse riding experience and we had a blast. Utterly helpful and kind guides (Claire and Eilsabet) and extremely well-trained horses, that are clearly well taken care of. They base the temper of the horses on the experience of the riders, so ours were very calm and responsive. The environment of Husey is perfect for horse riding, no roads, no traffic, only nature and a lot of birds.

Nice Stop Along the Ring Road

Reviewed By cjgqmb

This hostel was comfortable and had all the basic amenities. As a bonus they had sheets covering the bunks for a little extra privacy, which not all hostels in Iceland had. There was also a cafe attached, which I didn't try as I left very early in the morning, but that was also a nice touch. It's also a convenient jumping off point for Seydisfjordur, where the popular rainbow road leading up to a church can be found.

Hafaldan Harbour Hostel was established in 1975. Overlooking the fjord, it was built as a dormitory building for women working in the herring industry in the 1960’s. At that time four to six women stayed in each room that now is considered a small room for two. Thora Guðmundsdottir is the proud owner of Hafaldan and lives in her private apartment in one half of the hostel.

Charming Location

I really loved this location and the hotel was very nice for one night. The views and the walk around the area was so nice. Unfortunately my room looked over the parking lot, but I got the idea of this charming fishing village. The breakfast was good and plentiful and the reception area very inviting with views of the water. The staff was so nice, a very pleasant place..

Hostel stay

Reviewed By Sonia S

We stayed in the hostel (older building) for two nights. Everything was either old or has a hostel quality, which gives this place an old pension atmosphere and that totally worked for us. Room was not big but had enough space for everyone. Kitchen is big and well-equipped. Dining area in the sunroom is very charming and has a view of the mountains and the ocean (there is a path to the beach, you can take a walk). Pleasant stay, nice and helpful staff, great location, would recommend.
