Top 10 Horseback Riding Tours in Auckland, North Island

September 18, 2021 Marissa Gamble

The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers, and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away from the arts and shopping of the central city.

Waiheke Equestrian was the highlight of my day on Waiheke! We rode up through beautiful fields of grazing horses and sheep to a lookout with 360 degree views of Waiheke...Absolutely breathtaking! While the horses grazed we admired the view across the ranges and vineyards down to the bays (the autumn colours of the vines were spectacular and even Auckland was visible across the water!). Zelda was the sweetest natured mount who I felt completely safe on. All of the horses were so healthy and clearly living in an equine paradise! Cindy is a Waiheke local who has worked hard to build a beautiful farm and equestrian business including a riding school. Cindy was so kind and was not worried about taking me out on my own (where other operators would likely cancel). I also have to mention Molly the Lab who made me laugh with her happy antics! I can’t thank Cindy (also Zelda and Molly) enough for a wonderful ride and a memorable Waiheke trip!
