Ringwood Manor

Reviewed By R4960NKjustinw - Hasbrouck Heights, United States

I love coming to Ringwood Manor at Christmas Time. It really is a special place when you see it all decorated for the holidays. The whole house is in full Christmas decor. Each room has a different theme to it and is decorated to the hilt. The Friends organization does a nice job showcasing the house at the holidays. I am sure that the family did not decorate that much. My favorite room was the formal dining room that was set for Christmas lunch with all the tableware and fake foods on the side board. The house is beautifully decorated but not overdone. Remember to visit the barn on the property to see all the arts and crafts for sale. In the smaller gift shop in the house, take time to see all the handmade ornaments. One of the crafters is really creative. There is also a small coffee shop in the next building to have a snack. It is really a nice afternoon at the Ringwood Manor.

Pascack Historical Society Museum

Reviewed By R4960NKjustinw - Hasbrouck Heights, United States

The Pascack Historical Society recently went through a renovation to improve the displays, reduce the clutter and showcase all the beautiful artifacts at the museum. They put the displays together to show life at different times in the Pascack Valley and how we have changed our way of living over the last 200 years. They have an interesting set of artifacts displayed nicely with good signage, well-lit room that has been freshly painted, interesting stories and a very friendly dedicated staff. The best part is that it is free. It is a nice way to spend the day if you like local history and being with a staff that cares.

East Jersey Old Town Village

Located in Johnson Park in Piscataway, NJ, East Jersey Old Town Village is comprised of sixteen reconstructed and replica 18th and 19th century structures. They represent architecture typical of farm and merchant communities once found in central New Jersey. Dedicated to teaching the history, traditions, folk arts, and craftsmanship of the people who lived and worked throughout the region, the Village is home to ‘Raritan Landing...Uncovering a Forgotten Past’, a permanent exhibit about Raritan Landing, an 18th-century Colonial port once located on the river. Explore the site and meet the historical interpreters that bring the Village to life through their historic trades and crafts. A gateway site for the Crossroads of the American Revolution, National Heritage Area, and situated along the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail, the Village offers awarding winning exhibits, living history, and seasonal programs. Mahwah Museum

Reviewed By stein525 - Las Vegas, United States

We accompanied my daughter and son-in-law to Montvale, New Jersey to provide babysitting services while she attend her 20 year reunion at West Point. One of the front desk staff suggested the Mahwah Museum. What a find! The Museum is small: one large room divided into several display areas. One area is dedicated to a local resident: the guitarist, Les Paul who lived in Mahwah for half a century. The display included much of his home studio with equipment he developed. There was also an area devoted to the poet Joyce Kilmer (who is remembered for his poem “Trees”) who was also a local resident. There is a variety of other displays having to do with local history and the participation of town residents in various American wars. In the basement, there is an operating model railroad. It is HO gauge and fairly extensive. All in all, the Malwah Museum was a most enjoyable way to spend a few afternoon hours.

Schoolhouse Museum

Reviewed By eakins

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of items in this small museum and the professional quality of the displays. The guides were excellent and we appreciated the informality of their presentation. I was impressed by the cult of mourning during this post Civil War period, from the clothing and accessories to the photos of the deceased children. Visiting the museum was well worth the trip.
