The city walls of Cittadella are a rare example of medieval means of defense with a still practicable, perfectly preserved parapet walk. I had seen medieval castles before this one but this was definitely my best experience. Walking the walls of the castle gives you a unique perspective on medieval life. The views of the town within the castle as well as outside the walls is truly spectacular, especially with the mountains in the background. Expect the walk to take about an hour and a half. Cittadella is an excellent day trip for anyone interested in a real functioning medieval town.

Great spot to stroll around and have a Spritz before dinner. Beautiful architecture and plenty of outdoor/indoor seating. Watch the sun go down over one of the most elegant squares in Italy.
