The Havens House was built in 1743 and is now on the State & National Registries of Historic Places. The Museum features rotating exhibits. Our Archival Vault holds over 50,000 maps, deeds, diaries, letters, photos, and other historical documents. These are available for viewing by appointment. Admission is free. Donations accepted.

The house, and its adjacent studio, give visitors a glimpse of how artists Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner lived and worked. A National Historic Landmark.

The Docent was very informative and enthusiastic about sharing the information on Pollock-Krasner. The space gives you a feeling of what it was like to live and work together. Much smaller studio than I would have imagined for such a large figure.

Located in Oyster Bay, New York and originally landscaped by the Olmsted Brothers, the grounds feature 409 acres of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths and outstanding plant collections. The original historic estate buildings remain intact including Coe Hall, a 65-room Tudor Revival mansion designed by Walker and Gillette. The interior of the house is a showcase of artistry and craftsmanship and features a distinctly American aesthetic through original ironwork commissions by Samuel Yellin and murals painted by artists Robert Winthrop Chanler and Everett Shinn. Planting Fields is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

This was a beautiful park in which to spend a couple hours on a low key vacation. While we did not manage to walk all the trails in our limited time here, we enjoyed what we saw immensely, and had the place almost to ourselves. I would love to come back in the spring when more flowers are blooming. Do not miss the main greenhouse! The cactus, begonia and orchid branches were great, as well as the wonderful tropical plants and trees in the main section. The dahlia garden was very nice. Also of note, the Sensory garden and Italian garden. After Labor Day, the $8 per car fee is only collected on weekends.

A bully good historic attraction, not to be missed: the home of Theodore Roosevelt from 1902 to 1906, considered the "Summer White House," a beautiful 23-room Victorian mansion estate that also includes a 37-acre National Environmental Study Area of forest, tidal salt marsh and bay beach.

There was more to see here than we realised and wished we'd allowed more time for our visit. As well as the tour of the house, which was excellent and took around 40 mins, there is a small, well presented museum, a couple of short movies about Sagamore Hill and life of TR, some interesting interpretative signs around the grounds and a nice nature trail down to the water. The house was built to his requirements, is full of TRs personal effects and furnished just as the family lived in it. We learnt so much about this fascinating individual and his views and beliefs. You can only visit the house on a tour and in peak season you need to book ahead if you have a national park pass on the parks website for free. If not best to show up early and book on a tour for $10 each for a time slot as tickets are often sold out by noon.

We spent 3 days / 2 nights in the Whitney room for our Anniversary. There is really not much at all to do there, no real activities, so it was a huge difference for us to just relax and catch up on sleep and relaxation. They have a small gym, but other than that, there's just food at the restaurant. There is a hallway with photos of the history of the Castle and a "Chaplin Room" with a plethora of Charlie Chaplin memorabilia. The furniture is solid antique wood that you cannot find anywhere else, the high ceilings exquisite, and all the comforts of modern life such as the sprinklers, smoke/fire detectors, elevator, etc. A bit disappointed there was no small refrigerator in the room, for the price they charge, but it was a very large room with modern bathroom and a great view. The bed and cushions were very comfortable and we slept quite deeply. Extremely quiet too. We had a great time there and really got to relax. The tour is great because it gives you some great history with many people that you have heard of before but did not know were a part of the Okeka lagacy. The restaurant is unbelievable with the quality of food they have - I am entering a separate review on that. It is expensive for the average person, but if you want to treat your significant other to a bucket list of staying at a Castle, this is the place.

In 1819, Walt Whitman was born at a farmhouse in West Hills built by his father circa 1810. The Birthplace was restored in 2001 and it is a fine example of native Long Island craftsmanship.

Walt Whitman grew up in Huntington Station, NY on a large tract of land owned by his family. He was the founder of a local Huntington newspaper, The Long Islander, that is still in print today. The museum has special days where they have wonderful docent led tours of the home which is furnished in nineteenth century furniture. It has audio-visual materials related to Walt Whitman and his peers. Check their schedule for special events.

Whether it's a hike to the beach, a ride on the zip line in the playground or learning about tadpoles at the pond, spending a day at the preserve is worth it. We've enjoyed our membership year after year. It never disappoints.
