Lake Haiyaha

Reviewed By TravelingSoccerLoon - Saint Paul, United States

Added a hike to Lake Haiyaha on the return from Emerald lake and it was well worth the extra effort. The trail from Bear Lake Trailhead to Emerald Lake is quite popular. It was nice to veer off on the trail to Lake Haiyaha which is much less traveled, The views of the Bear Lake area and Morraine Valley are quite spectacular as you make the tough ascent to the lake. When arriving at the lake , getting a good view is challenging as it requires scaling up the rocks surrounding the lake. Although I found this quite fun, it may create a challenge for some.

The Loch Trail

Reviewed By applecat79 - Columbus, United States

What a great hike! We used the park and ride transport to Glacier Gorge and hiked to the Loch. Several people were hiking the trail but it was not crowded like the other hikes at the Bear Lake Trailhead. It took us close to two hours to get to the lake. It was pretty much a gradual uphill hike the whole way. Not too bad but definitely a nice workout. Great views all the way. It only took us an hour to get back to the trailhead. One of the best hikes in RMNP!

Mills Lake

One of my favorite hikes. You first go by a very gorgeous waterfall, then continue up into a great canyon with amazing views. The actual lake is gorgeous with nice views of Long's Peak. If you continue on, theirs some excellent smaller lakes that can be less crowded. The trail will become popular later in the day, also, the parking lot can be full by 7am. Take the free shuttle or hike down from Bear lake.

Fern Falls

This beautiful waterfall is on the way to Fern Lake as well as Odessa lake and is such a magnificent piece of nature. Luckily there’s always a fallen log right in front of it that you can sit on to take a picture or as you can see from my photo there’s a little path on the side of it that you can walk on to get a picture up close and personal next to the Falls. Timberline Falls So far is my favorite waterfall but this one comes in a very close second.

Old Fall River Road

This dramatic and scenic roadway built in 1913 followed an old Indian pathway that climbed over 3,000 feet.

Reviewed By Cardinalis

Old Fall River Road is a carefully maintained dirt road that travels along Fall River through pine forests and past mountain vistas on its way to Alpine Visitor Center at 11,796 feet. Along this one-way route there are pullouts, including Chasm Falls and the Chapin trailhead, to stretch your legs and take pictures. You can drink the scenery. And it's a wonderful break between real hiking days.

We stopped at the store 4 years ago while visiting Estes Park. My first stop at the store was in 1976, when Charles was running things and telling his stories about artifacts. Anyway, I bought something that caught my wife`s eye, and went to check out. Charlie looked at my item and told me, "I don`t like to make change, buy something else." I still laugh to this day at his suggestion. I did share this story with the owners and they said it was just like Charlie. So much history contained in the store. Will be back next year.

Stopped here on our way up Trail Ridge Road. It’s a nice half mile walk through lovely field. We saw a herd of elk run through. The camp was run by a family in the early 1900s. There are original buildings to explore. It was an interesting stop.

Hidden Valley Sledding and Tubing Hill

Reviewed By 913JohnM - Berthoud, United States

If you want some winter time fun, even on a 50 degree, brown, dry day on the front range, come up to Hidden Valley! About 2 miles before the turn off, the dry landscape will turn winter white! In addition to the 2 sledding hills there are areas to back country snow board, ski, snow shoe etc. There are also regular restrooms at the parking area. Great fun and a wonderful way to get in some activity on a winter day!
