Golden Fig

Golden Fig is a charming shop located in the historic Crocus Hill neighborhood in St. Paul and is the first shop to be selling exclusively American made goods and goodies. Cheeses, chocolates, breads, cleaning supplies, cookbooks, greeting cards, salsa, hot sauce, spices, truffles, preserves, cooking utensils, candles, fresh breads and more.

I brought my husband into the Golden Fig for the first time yesterday. He was amazed at the range of fine chocolate and toffee available. I took him through all the different sections, starting with chocolate. We bought a bag of chocolate covered nuts ($7.63) and two chocolate bars ($5.95 & $11.95). We both spotted a bag Spicy Billy Goat Kicker brand of chips that looked good and got that too ($12.95). There is a large flavored salt and pepper section, and an eclectic seasonings section. I bought a bottle of Shawarma seasoning here the last time I was in and it is good. When I get back from Florida, I intend to stop by and get some of the salt and pepper for cooking. I see they also now have a section of dried ready-to-make soups which all looked good. We were asked several times if we could be helped, and the young woman who checked us out was very, very nice. We got our treats home and had some of them. The first two chocolate covered nuts I had were rancid, but I had a couple more and they were excellent. We had some of the Spicy Billy Goat Kicker brand chips and they tasted good and were crunchy, but the canola oil they are fried in left a coating on my tongue. We still have high hopes for the two chocolate bars we bought. I will definitely go back and buy more gourmet food items.

Choo Choo Bob's Train Store

Choo Choo Bob's Train Store was founded in 2005 on the principle that trains are fun for all ages. Since then, we have established ourselves as the Twin Cities' ultimate destination for family-friendly shopping and interactive play. Operating trains in the front window greet customers, while public play tables await children in the back of our spacious and vibrant St. Paul store. And did we mention we have two train-themed birthday party rooms? We are an official Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway Specialty Station. In addition, we carry Brio, Melissa & Doug, and other compatible systems. We also stock O-gauge and HO-scale trains for both hobbyists and beginners. Beyond trains, we offer a wide array of Playmobil, Lego, Carrera slot cars, Hot Wheels, Calico Critters and more. Simply put, the only thing we sell is ... FUN!
