Blue & White Gallery

Reviewed By MKSlovestotravel

Fifteen years ago, I happened upon the Blue & White Gallery and made a purchase of an absolutely beautiful lithograph which currently hangs in my office. Having remembered my joy-filled experience -- in meeting Udi, an artist and the owner, a return to his gallery was in order upon my return to Jerusalem. The minute upon my entrance such warmth was exuded from Udi. While he didn't remember me immediately (because who would after fifteen years), Udi was pleased to hear about my previous time in his shop. Then my eyes took in all of the available art that he had on his walls. Such opportunity! Udi asked if any particular pieces were to my liking and I pointed to a Chagall painting. Well, after a bit of reflection and discussion, Udi made a deal with me that I couldn't refuse -- for two Chagall paintings, along with one of his personal watercolors of the Western Wall. And he arranged for shipping. All of the pieces arrived in quick fashion and in pristine shape. So,... if you're looking for a work of art worth having, drop by and see this kind, generous soul. You won't be disappointed.

Jerusalem Pottery Hagop Karakashian

My family has been making traditional Armenian pottery in Jerusalem since 1919. In 1919, during the British mandate in Palestine, the government decided to carry out renovations on the ceramic tiles covering the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem's temple mount. A group of Armenian ceramic artists from Turkey were brought to Jerusalem to work on the project. Among the group was my Grandfather, a master painter and ceramic artist. He settled here and together with his partner established the art of Armenian ceramics in Jerusalem. Today, I, Hagop Karakashian, continue his tradition of making Armenian hand painted pottery and ceramic tiles, in my studio and shop located on 3 Greek Patriarchate Street, in the Old City (near Jaffa Gate). I make hand painted plates, mugs, bowls, various sized dishes, and tiles with peacocks, pomegranates, gazelles, intricate floral patterns for home decoration, and other traditional designs. Visit us to experience a part of the history of Jerusalem.

A piece of Jerusalem history, art, and hospitality in one amazing experience. I was immediately captivated by the beautiful colors and designs of each hand drawn and painted piece. The quality is not compared. Be sure to meet the welcoming owners and learn of the incredible history of Jerusalem Pottery. You can also watch the artists at work creating the beautiful one of a kind pieces. Easy to find location in the Christian Quarter is definitely a must see!
