For starters, there really aren't too many good restaurants in the area and thus, decent food can be hard to find. The Gutshof came recommended by locals and we decided to try it out by riding our bikes there. Sure enough, the premises are nice enough with ample outdoor seating and a playground that is part of the restaurant. Thus, there were plenty of kids around and the sound of laughter and playing filled the air. To us, this was great since we had our daughter with us as well but for others who are looking for a more tranquil atmosphere, this might be bothersome. The menu is clear and easy to understand - with an handy English translation under each listed item. Our food was alright - but certainly nothing that would make me want to come back. My steak was horribly undercooked - I prefer medium well and while some of the steak did, indeed, have this temperature, other parts were blue. Obviously, throwing the whole thing back on the grill is not desirable and thus, I ended up eating the parts that corresponded to my preference. My wife had a soup with some type of grit dumpling. The soup tasted like it was pre-manufactured (i.e., not made on the premises) stock - a bit too salty and with the flavor that readily comes with re-hydrated soup stock but which is always noticeably absent from freshly-made products. If this stock was, in fact, freshly made, then the chef failed to create a delicate and balanced composition. In my experience, it is virtually impossible to create this flavor with fresh ingredients. My wife also had a salad - which was freshly made and consisted of lettuce, some cucumbers, and rather roughly chopped carrots. The dressing was lackluster at best but edible nonetheless.Overall, not a stellar performance by the Gutshof but not horrible, either. For better food, I'd head to Dillenburg's Bartmann's Haus which is infinitely more delicious but also much more expensive and certainly less casual.

Run by the delightful Danni who is a sublime baker specialising in gluten free delights, you will be grateful you stopped for a coffee- (also great and Im a coffee snob!) and a treat to eat! Decked out in vintage cups and saucers, the environs are warm, friendly and the service is personable. You will leave feeling like you made a friend. Not to mention that the charming picturesque town of Herborn will make you want to stay a few nights!

People I was visiting bought tickets to an opera and buffet dinner at the hohe schule, and it was incredible. They do not do these types of events very often, but definitely keep an eye out because the opera was amazing (free champagne at intermission), it was beautiful. After the show they had a 3 course buffet set up and the food did not taste like buffet style food. I can't even get over how delicious it was! The atmosphere of the old school was really interesting and Herborn itself is a very pretty old town. A lot of very old buildings and tudor architecture, even a castle. If you are staying near Herborn check out this restaurant and you may get lucky and be able to attend one of the events!!

We did not stay in this hotel or eat in the separate restaurant, but attended a wedding reception held here that was excellent! The premises are perfect with a large dining room, dance floor, and outside terrace. The service was the highlight - all servers were friendly, accommodating and most personable. The room and tables were beautifully decorated (at the wedding party's request). The wines and beers were all very good. The fresh mixed green salads, celery soup and buffet dinner and desserts were all fresh and delicious. One member of our party with very particular tastes had been perfectly catered to! It was a wonderful dining experience throughout the night and everyone was pleased. Job well done!
I visited the restaurant with some business colleagues for a meal at night and was very impressed. They had menus in German and English which was a nice touch. The interior is nice and there is a good vibe. There is a good choice on the menu. One word of advice the salads are very big so you may want to share if having it as a starter. The steak I had for main was excellent. The staff were good and always smiling. Will definitely visit when next in Herborn.

I visited this restaurant for the first time while staying at a local hotel with some businesses colleagues and had a great meal. The restaurant is small but you do not feel at all cramped. The menu is good and varied. The food itself is excellent and the portion sizes are big. The staff are very friendly and offer a fantastic service. Will definitely be back.

Had a business dinner here after a business trip. Very attentive service and accommodated a large group arriving at different times. Large menu selection, no english version but it was still fairly easy to work it out - especially as I had several german speakers with me.Food was very tasty and good portion sizes, enjoyed the local beer. Prices were very reasonable.Would go again if I am back in Herborn.
