There used to be two hotels/restaurants you could go to in Kinshasa: the Memling and the Intercon. The Memling is no longer in a good neighborhood, and the Intercon is under new and unskilled management.So the Hacienda (Belgian owned) is, at $150, an alternative; I got $100 for b and b, at an institutional discount. Restaurant serves pricey but generally good continental cuisine for lunch and dinnerThings to like: acceptable breakfasts, normal continental cuisine for lunch and dinner, clean and modern rooms.The connectivity is slow during the day, but speeds up at night. On cable, I got BBC; most other channels were in French.

Fondue & Fondue is truly a great place to have dinner with friends and/or family. Various delicious appetizers, the main course consists of pierrade with your choice of meats, cheese fondue with your choice of various blends and fondue bourguignon. All accompanied by various sauces and sides. By far one of the best restaurants in Kinshasa for meat and cheese lovers... They also have a great selection of wines from across the world. New location of Kayser in Kinshasa, it's spacious and nice and the outdoor patio is huge. You'll get the same favorites as downtown. Wait staff is new, and needs a little training, however, they are trying hard. A great place to stop by with convenient free parking out front. The Kin Plaza kids' playplace is just steps away, and INSIDE this Kayser you'll find a small Nice Cream!!! Really!

Chez Philo is a perfect blend of Belgian and Congolese cuisines, or if you want to be less precise "a perfect blend of European and African cuisines". Restaurants in Kinshasa are either "European", they will mainly be good at European dishes, or "African", they will only serve African dishes. Chez Philo, you can eat the best Belgian dishes as well as the best Congolese dishes. Let's imagine you receive a friend for a week and want to invite him to a good restaurant. However, you don't feel like eating African food yourself. No problem! You can go Chez Philo, eat a Belgian speciality and let your guest eat a crocodile steak or an antelope steak. Isn't that fantastic? And there is more: your bill won't be jaw-dropping. Chez Philo doesn't overcharge, like it is often the case in Kinshasa, where you can pay a burger with frightening salad 30 or even 35 USD.

Le Cercle gourmand is the most beautiful restaurant in Kinshasa. It is located inside the golf course, 500 meters beyond the restaurant O Poeta, when you come from the Boulevard du 30 Juin, on your left-hand side. The lighting is perfect. The paintings are very original. The tables, chairs and everything else as well. I agree with the other reviewers: once you are there, you don't feel you are in Kinshasa anymore. The service is pretty good too, but you need to be careful when you pay. I had to pay $113. I gave them $150. How much do you think I got back? - $16. I am not the best at arithmetic, but come on! That's too obvious! In other words, you need to double-check. As far as the food is concerned, we chose the Menu du Chef. It was the cheapest option: $50 per person for three courses. For drinks, we had a tonic ($5) and a pineapple juice ($9). We started with a delightful soup, then my girlfriend had chicken with risotto and I a captain fish with spinach and potatoes, and for dessert we both had a feuilleté aux pommes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. All these dishes were a true delight for our eyes and for our palates. We had a very good time there and I really advise you to go for a special moment such as a birthday, an anniversary, a proposal or something of that kind, or for an important business meeting. I had the pleasure to eat twice in the restaurant Orchids. French cuisine is the base of their menu. The plates are just amazing! I've decided to taste the duck with fruits sauce. Incredible dish. Also, I had the pleasure to taste to dishes of my colleagues and believe me, they were incredible. If you are in Bukavu, you must go to Orchids to have lunch or dinner. It's expensive but worth it.

So there is this rather stylish place serving a few classics of French cuisine in Kinshasa. It's not experimental, ist not new, it does not pretend to be anything it is not. Straight in your face honest old style cooking at its best. Lobster ravioli, veal fillet and a dessert made s perfect meal. Rather highly priced, but acceptable for what they serve.
