Nielsen Park has been a treasured icon for generations of Sydney families. It is a beautiful harbour beach, surrounded by bushland and with great views across the (on sunny days) sparkling waters of Sydney Harbour to the CBD and Harbour Bridge. Entry to the park is free. The water and the sand are clean and the beach is protected by a shark net. Being a harbour beach, there is no surf. It is great spot for kids, and for family picnics and events, with spacious lawns and shady spots. Now, the downside. It can get really crowded over summer, and parking in this area is very limited. Be prepared to park the car some distance from the park and walk the rest of the way. If you can handle that inconvenience, you'll have a great day.

Great place accessible by public transport- swimming round and round adequate for long distance swimmers. Nice changing facilities.

Green Point and its near neighbour Camp Cove can be combined on a short and very satisfying walk from Watson's Bay wharf. The walk firstly takes you down a couple of streets of beautifully restored 19th century cottages - now each worth millions, I'm sure. At Green Point, which in itself is a fairly unremarkable bump of a headland, you are rewarded with fantastic views of Sydney Harbour, with the CBD skyline visible in the distance. It seemed popular with spearfishermen when we visited. Just beyond Green Point is Camp Cove, a small harbour beach and a truly delightful stretch of sand. The area has a couple of important monuments, one commemorating Captain Arthur Phillip's first landfall in Sydney Harbour (then Port Jackson in 1788) and the other as the southern end of the anti-submarine boom net that stretched across the harbour during WWII.

We took Bus #380($3 each) from Museum Station for 13 km northeast to this 1883 lighthouse in the Vaucluse suburb. Its 85' bright white tower sits between the keeper's cottage, still much the same as the 1818 original structure designed by a convict. Just to the rear side, we strolled Federation Cliff Walk to get an overall view with the sandstone cliffs rising out of the Tasman Sea. Another nearby viewpoint shows Watson Bay to the north along with the Sydney Harbor Bridge. We re-boarded Bus # 380 for 5 km south to Bondi Beach for lunch, then again for a stop at Paddington Market on the return to Museum Station in Sydney.

The walk is pretty easy with lots of stairs. You cannot go through the navy base though and have to fill streets to the lighthouse. Great viewing play forms for photos.

Such a great hidden oasis!!!! Heaps of grassed areas for picnics leading into the little beach. Walk around the path on the side with beautiful rock formations to a little jetty and a great view of Sydney Harbor or walk across the suspension bridge. Easily accessible with a car or bus

I have done this walk at least 15 times, easy to drive to and park, walk across the sand (near the kiosk) up the walk way and an easy walk out past the nudie beach to the headland walk which is a loop. There are the battlements, canon, lighthouse, the heads and then back to the view out to Manly then down the harbour back to the city. Best easy morning or sunset. Sometimes it gets a bit hazy from lunch to late arvo (but not always) - and it is still worth the walk.

what a view once you take the small hike up to Hornby lighthouse... on the way, you will pass the Lady Moon beach.. you can also see concrete structures which once housed canons or anti aircraft batteries to defend the Sydney Harbour area from any incoming ships...
