Distilleria Beccaris

Distilleria Beccaris was established thanks to a sort of “game of chance”. In fact , in 1951 its founder Elio Beccaris decided to start its own firm but he did not know whether it had to be a distillery, a winery or a vinegar factory. So he made his new born son Carlo decide by putting three slips of paper with the three alternatives in a hat and letting him take one, the ultimate decision should be taken by his innocent and unaware hand and it proved to be the lucky one. Carlo Beccaris now show in his personality the same rare and essential characteristics of seriousness of his firm, handicraft care and passion originating high quality. The production cycle starts at the end of the summer with the selection of the best marcs from the vineyards located in the heart of the region between Langhe and Monferrato. Then come the other phases of production: distillation, ageing, and the packaging of the bottles that every year are put on the market after a carefully controlled process.

Pierfranco and his family are so welcoming and friendly! His wife and son Gabriel explaned a lot about their vinyard and the different types of wine, which we could taste too. Not a question was too much, after a whole afternoon of asking and tasting wine, Gabriel even took us to see their beautiful vinyard. Of course we bought some bottles to share with our friends and family in Belgium!

We were staying locally and met the owner of this business one evening at our hotel. The hotel owner then organised for us to visit the following day. It was a very friendly and intimate experience - we sat in the cellar of the house with 2 other couples and were offered 10 or so wines to taste from sparkling and still whites of various sweetness and a variety of reds. Ended up buying as much as we could carry home! A really informative and enthusiastic owner and host - deserves to do well.

Very difficult to find, but keep looking because it is worth it!!! We showed up an hour late and they were kind enough to wait for us. We had a private wine tasting that consisted of 10 different wines, meats cheeses and pasta. All for $35 euros per person. The food was delicious and the wine was phenomenal. This was not your average tasting! Such a variety of choices for anyone’s palette. We spent 3 hours there! The place is beautiful and the grounds are stunning.

Borgo Moncalvo

Borgo Moncalvo is a small winery located in the territory called “Langhe Astigiane”, a small portion of land with unique characteristics, between the High Monferrato of Alessandria and the High Langa of Cuneo. The soil, mostly calcareous, is cultivated with difficulty and with dedication has become more viable by men of the past thanks to the construction of walls kilometers long, made in Langa stone, which allow the soul to hold up in some places on large terraces. The stone stairs are built, as well as the walls with what emerged from the first excavations, completely done by hand. It has been around for over a hundred years and they now create an open-air museum breaking the vineyards horizontally and vertically. The pinnacle is reached where it is possible to visit the “heroic vineyards”, the oldest and most beautiful vineyards. Each grape produced tells a story of men and women who gave everything for this land.

Respect of environment is central to the family Scaglione who lives and preserve this wonderful place for six generations: the cellar in fact works entirely with the' solar energy and the vineyards are conducted in a biological way.
