This one year old Borongan cafe is across from a beach although there are no views as there is a building in the way.The decor is simple and the chairs and tables of good quality.I had calamari which was a small serving, complemented with rice. The mango and banana shake was terrific value at P45. This is a combination that should be available at most cafes in Philippines but often is not. It was absolutely delicious.Staff were friendly. There were local residents constantly patronising the cafe so obviously it is fairly popular with Borongan residents which is the sort of endorsement that many travellers look for.I returned for an evening burger that was similarly pleasant.

Cafe Maria Rosarion is the closest to a Starbucks-kind and Conti-like of treats in Catbalogan City. The snacks are almost Manila-priced but are sweet and tasty. There's a once-a-week buffet of local dishes, which offers not to many dishes but are still plentiful and delicious.

Marcial's Grille

Whilst staying at S R Bed & Breakfast in Calbayog, we ordered from Marcial's grill. The ordered meals were sizzling pork chop, sizzling squid, baby back ribs and cucumber salad. The sizzling pork chop was extra dry and covered in garlic, the baby back ribs was good and meaty but again sauce was full of garlic, cucumber salad was a few slices of cucumber and a few slices of tomato, the sizzling squid was more like a chop suey style squid.Overall the portions were good size and mostly tasty if an excessive use of garlic.

Misty Blue Boathouse Restaurant

Reviewed By FilmEatDive

Misty Blue is a must stop for anyone making their way down to Guiuan, or the greater Eastern Samar area. You can expect the best service of your life while enjoying drinks in the beautiful saltwater pool or having a romantic dinner in one of the palapas overhanging the ocean. Greg, the owner, is an absolute gentleman and a wonderful person to just idly chat away the day with. They have now, more or less fully recovered from the typhoon and have added on several rooms for guests to stay. Accommodations are few and far in between in Guiuan and this is the only hotel I would recommend in town. It is the only place with decent service and the only spot where someone can really relax, given the pool and easy access to the sea.Greg will go out of his way to assure that everything you need is provided, whether that is a good deal on a private boat for some island hopping, or a backup generator when the power goes out (even if you are the only guest). Misty Blue offers great woodfire pizzas (as long as you aren't expecting Italian) the best breakfast in Guiuan (maybe the best in the Philippines) a full service bar and just an all around great time. I really can't say enough about the folks here, do stop by and support what they are doing.

Just walking distance from our hotel, cafe eusebio. Had a dinner meeting here with the Municipal Health Officer of Catarman for empowerment of women on Cervical Cancer Prevention Services. It was a great dinner to end our busy day.We tried all the food with a 'thumb's up sign' and it' s all worth to try, the fish steak, sexy ribs, fish siomao and the other pork menu (forgot the name). We really enjoyed it.

City Grill

City Grill may unseat Rosario's as the best casual diner in Catbalogan. Here's why: entertainment. In most nights, CG has a live singer or band playing. Add this to the cozy but contemporary ambience and the senses may forget the great food in the menu. The fare is the type, which is almost like metro type but still kinda provincial type. How can this be better explained: simply put, the menu is like what you'll find in major Philippine cities; but the serving size, presentation and taste still keeps in mind it's still local cooking.Parking may be tough on rush hours as the place has no parking but along the curbside. In evenings, this will not be an issue as Catbalogan is quiet past 7pm. Overall, it's the best place in the Samar capital, at almost any time of the day.

When you’re in Calbayog City, Philippines Mango Lounge and Bar is a destination must! You will be greeted with a smile from the staff members upon arrival. The food menu consistent of local favorites in addition to western style dishes. The food is always flavorful and delicious! I’ll recommend my personal favorites, a cheese burger or chicken sandwich with a side of onion rings. The beverage menu offers a variety of choices. You can enjoy domestic beer such as Red Horse (Filipino favorite), Pale Pilsen (seems to be foreigner’s favorite), or imported beer such as Heineken. If your occasion warrants cocktails you will not be disappointed with the selections offered. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back, yet it also has an energetic feel. You can enjoy live music from local bands. You can fully indulge your experience by participating in karaoke! The establishment is safe and in a convenient location (being a foreigner safety is the most important factor in decision making). A high level of cleanliness and organization is maintained throughout the entire establishment. Every visit I was comfortable and I always enjoyed myself. The food was consistently delicious. I always left with a smile! The next time you’re in or near Calbayog City ask a trike driver to take you to Mango!Dear Curious221072Thank you for your positive yet informative review, I am sure that this particular review will advise the readers accordingly. Here at Mango, we believe that the most important aspects of business is not the money it generates, but the experiences we help to create. We look forward to welcoming you back here at Mango Lounge hopefully soon,Kind regards

Rated very good knowing that the place just recovered from typhoon haiyan. Also, there were limited resorts in the place. The view facing the beach is the best spot, very calm and relaxing. However, the foods are a bit pricey :)Thank you Vanessa and sorry for late reply. We are sorry you found our food pricey, we try to keep the price on the average and some Italian meals may sound expensive but are actually much cheaper than in other Italian resto in the Philippines but, according to our customers, with same or much better quality.Wish you al the best!
