Justus Orchard

Reviewed By dianak31 - Mount Pleasant, United States

Our entire family had a blast at Justus Orchard. Our nearly 2 and 5 year olds were smiling the whole time. The apples we picked are delicious and (score!) many of the largest ones were hidden at the bottom of the trees where most people don’t look but they were in the perfect place for our tiny apple-loving 5 year old to grab. We spent at least 2.5 hours there and experienced all the activities they had to offer: Apple picking Jump pillow Cow train Apple Cannon Playground Petting Zoo Photo ops We brought our own picnic lunch and were grateful because the lines for food as well as inside their store were very long. We ate at the picnic tables at the playground. There is also a table down by the petting zoo that is not as crowded. Sadly, because of the crowds, we were not able to taste the apple donuts or apple cider but we will be back next year and hope to sample them. Entry onto the Cow Train was definitely a bit of a mess and we even got kicked out of our car/turn by another parent. There was no attendant ensuring a line was kept - it was a free-for-all to get a car. My son was crying but we waited patiently for the next ride and both of our kiddos enjoyed it

Sweet Betsy Farm

We are a small family bee farm with an onsite farm stand featuring our Local Raw Honey, eggs and fresh produce. Because of Covid-19 and the limited space in our building, we are unfortunately unable to have our actual store open year and won't be able to offer tours of the beehives. We do have a self serve honor system farm stand open so you can still get some of our yummy honey to take home! We can take Cash, Venmo, or PayPal. We hope to see you soon!

Sweet Betsy Farm is spectacular! Ed and Karen are two of the kindest people you will ever meet. Ed guided my husband and I through the beekeeping process with a tour that was both informative and engaging. Karen was super sweet and helped us with the beekeeping suits. Ed was patient and answered any questions we had about bee history and culture. The brood of friendly chickens on the property was a pleasant surprise. Also on the farm is The Honey House, which has various types of honey for sale and to sample, including the rare and much sought after sourwood honey. There are signs along the road leading up to the farm, making the place easy to find.

We LOVE this place and have been there twice, both times with teenagers, but perfect for ALL ages. The owners, Sarah and Mike are probably the nicest people I have ever met. They patiently give private small tours of their lovely farm of alpacas and llamas and allow their visitors plenty of time to ask questions, meet the animals, pet and feed them and take pictures. My daughter's friend started crying happy tears when she got to pet llamas for the first time! They have an adorable gift shop featuring some items made from their own Alpaca's wool. We can't wait to return. We live in the Raleigh/Durham area and it is a beautiful 45ish minute drive for us. There is no charge for the visit, so we are happy to buy something to help contribute to the upkeep of their beautiful animals.

Came here after a hike to enjoy some cheese and wine. We met Sean (I hope I got the name right) who helped us when I wasn't sure where we should park with the lot looking like it was full. Then he explained the cheese and put together a beautiful plate for us. We enjoyed it outside, but it was getting a little hot so I moved inside to sit upstairs. They have a bunch of cute tables and chairs set up so you can enjoy the cheese in any weather. Sean was kind enough to make sure the AC was on so it wasn't too hot up there. All the cheese was great. What impressed me the most was how kind everyone was that worked there. A special shout out to Sean who not only directed us to great cheese and wine, but took the time to write a list of places we should visit in Asheville. Definitely recommend coming here.

My daughter (17) and I have been here three different times. The first time was last spring, then this past Christmas and now a few days ago. Obviously the animals are so cute and it is fun to feed and love on them. The family appears to be in the process of making improvements to the farm and the different experiences that they have there. It is nice because you can experience the animals without someone watching over you constantly. They also let you hold the baby goats, which I could sit and do all day! I feel great supporting a family that is obviously trying to provide a fun, family friendly experience.

Fearrington Village

This former 18th-century farm is now an upscale complex including fine shops, a market, a luxury inn and a gourmet restaurant.

Reviewed By BSirles - Richmond, United States

Needed a getaway since the pandemic and the sadness of the loss of our dear and much loved 16-year old dog, so we needed a trip not too far from home that was an easy drive and we decided on Fearrington Village and Inn. Our room was nicely appointed with a garden view and the staff was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and staff wore masks and gloves. It was very hot weather, but we found shade in the gardens and they have a wonderful little cottage room for guests where you can read and relax. Breakfast was a real treat with lots of nice touches, like a smoothie, and homemade biscuits. Dinner was exceptional! Make sure you leave room for dessert. A nice touch was the gift of some house made peach preserves to take home. We will definitely go back, maybe in the Fall when it is cooler. Just what the doctor ordered!
