Top 10 Farms in New Hampshire, United States

May 16, 2022 Tambra Mccollister

If you are looking for diversity, you will certainly find it in New Hampshire. From lakes to beaches, waterfalls to woods and mountains to sea coast, the state has huge potential for outdoor vacations, including downhill or cross-country skiing in winter. With no less than seventy-five state parks that offer natural areas, hiking trails, beaches and historic sites, New Hampshire caters for a variety of tastes. Crawford Notch State Park in Harts Location has picturesque waterfalls, wonderful mountain views and opportunities for viewing wildlife. You can go hiking and fishing there as well as pay a visit to the historic Willey House. Monadnock State Park, unlike some other state parks, is open all year round for hiking. Want to go swimming? You will find five state park beaches along the coast of New Hampshire, such as Wallis Sands with its view of the rocky Isles of Shoals. On North Hampton State Beach and Jenness Beach you can have a picnic as well as a swim. When you've finally had your fill of fresh air, head for the Museum of New Hampshire History in Concord with exhibits focusing on heritage and traditions; children should enjoy them just as much as adults.

Jenness Farm

Reviewed By Maurene_K - Dover, United States

As I pulled into Jenness Farm’s parking area, I spotted two peacocks on the porch railing and knew it was going to be a fun adventure with farm animals and birds. I got out the camera. Chickens and roosters were strutting around in the parking lot. I got a few photos of them. There was one big speckled chicken that waddled like a duck. Then, I photographed some of the goats in the pen that was right in front of the parking area. At a distance, there was a horse in its enclosed area. Inside, I talked to the owner for awhile. Then, I shopped my way through the three rooms full of wonderful, fragrant merchandise. About 10 minutes into my browsing, another woman came in. She was soon followed by three more people. Those three appeared to be were repeat customers. I liked seeing other people supporting a local business, especially after what so many had been through in the months since the COVID-19 shutdown in March. One of the showcased items in the main room was the lip balm. There were about two dozen varieties in conventional and unusual flavors as well as a neutral herbal blend. The lip balms won New Hampshire Magazine’s Best of Lip Balm Award. There were collections of products for babies, children, and adults that included everything from soaps and shampoos to body lotion, hand cream, face cream, and cuticle cream, plus buttermilk bath salts, deodorants, essential oils, and even soy candles. There were also fingernail brushes, wooden soap dishes, loofah sponges, and other bath accessories. In the middle room, there was a child's table with some activity item to amuse a child while a parent shopped. I got two Lemongrass & Sage Goat Milk Soaps and a Green Clover & Aloe Goat Milk Soap at $5.50 each, plus three small muslin bags at $1.00 each that I planned to fill with potpourri to make drawer sachets. Everything was high quality. As I headed for my car, a rooster walked alongside me. Between the shopping and the up-close interaction with the farm animals, it was a very pleasant experience. I rate my visit to Jenness Farm at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below.

I think this year is by far, the best batch of blueberries we have picked! The rows and rows of bushes are loaded! Make sure to take a picture of the blueberry gingerbread recipe that is near the buckets. It is so yummy! Paying is easy with Venmo or you can leave cash.

Brookdale Fruit Farm

Farm stand.

Reviewed By LauriH44 - Sioux Falls, United States

On our fall foliage tour, we ended with a stop at Brookdale. It's a farm stand, gift store, photo opportunity and all around fun place to be. Fresh apples were everywhere, of course, and there were multitudes of others foods to purchase - baked goods, cheese, drinks, vegetables - it was wonderful. We had cider doughnuts, which were good, and so was the blueberry hand pie and a fresh honey crisp apple. Lovely place, good customer service.

Lull Farm

Lull Farm was established by David Orde in 1980. Lull Farm carries a large assortment of their own, locally grown produce, along with a large assortment of gourmet grocery items.

Our family visited Lull Farm for some fall Apples, and ended up with a basket full of local produce. Lull has more than a dozen varieties of Apple, Pick your own or grab in-store, they’re fresh and many choices. They have great Macoun Apples, but also carry Red Delicious, Grannies, Spy, Cortland and Golden’s. I’m not if there’s a variety they don’t have. In late summer, fall we visited Lull for over 30 varieties of tomato. Our family loves to each pick their own, cherry, Roma, beafstake, and a crazy amount of unique heirlooms. While there you can also pick up a quart of local milk, chocolate, strawberry, blueberry or banana. This month they have this fantastic pumpkin carving station where kids can grab any pumpkin , carve it up, and the farm will put a candle in and light up for Halloween. The pumpkins must stay but we got to take home the seeds and roast! Kids had a great time carving and the best part, the mess stays at the farm! The farm also has honey, syrup, fresh breads, potatoes, candies and more. Check out this local favorite in Hollis, NH.

The Rocks Estate and Christmas Tree Farm

Beautiful estate of meadows, woods and barns.

Reviewed By camperJan52 - Lisbon, United States

Today we had the pleasure of visiting The Rocks Estate. Even though the weather was not the best, it didn’t deter us from having a terrific hike through the woods on one of the trails offered. The presidential range can be viewed on a few of the trails. The colors were beautiful! The estate is full of history and you are able to visit several buildings that have signs explaining it’s historical significance. There is also a Christmas tree farm where you can tag the perfect tree. All in all, it’s a great place to visit.

My wife, Golden Retriever, and I entered the back fields and greenhouses on a beautiful late August afternoon. Several items caught our attention. First, they had several large piles where they were doing mulching. They were obviously using heavy equipment to move and turn the tall piles. Such piles can achieve much higher temperatures than a home mulch pile and allow the mulching of a much wider selection of organic matter. Secondly, in one of their greenhouses, they were growing cherry tomatoes on a single strong cord, up to an estimated 8 feet. A worker there told me that I could use the same technique for growing cucumbers. I would consider trying this space-saving method of growing cherry tomatoes and cucumbers next year. Thirdly, they had a lot of instructional material about growing cover crops (winter rye, clover), which I would like to do this fall.
