Given all the strong reviews we chose this place for lunch. Unfortunately, typical English food standards are so low that it's hard to know what to make of a good recommendation. The very full menu was promising, the service friendly (if a bit unprofessional), but it was a disappointment from there. For all it's Italian credentials the too-loud Mexican (?) music was bemusing, and the house wine (Merlot, a popular choice, according to the waitress who then told me she didn't like wine) was a let down. Sounding like something original and tasty, I ordered the pumpkin-potato gnocchi with a sage butter sauce, which arrived swimming in over-salted clarified butter (probably 1/2 cup's worth!) flecked with chopped sage. The (tasteless) focaccia arrived after the second request which helped to soak up some of the butter, but I had to leave most of it in the dish or I would have been ill. Luckily I had opted for the started size, accompanied by a mixed green salad which was too simple to get wrong.

We were planning to treat a couple of very special friends to a fine dinner and choose Maxâs as our venue. Iâm pleased to report an impressive and fabulous experience. The food was great. Really enjoyed the portobello appetizer. The monkfish main was very good. We especially enjoyed the attentive, knowledgeable staff and small family cafe ambience. A very comfortable spot. (Small place so reservations highly recommended)

Despite living on Southampton for decades, this was my first visit to Ennio's. Nice venue with smart decor and attentive staff; the menu was very comprehensive with some excellent choices. The food was good quality, well cooked and well presented. Not the cheapest of places and I'm not a fan of the very un-English practice of including Service on the bill, but well recommended.

Had lunch here today it was absolutely delicious:) four of us for lunch and it was our first visit the menu is awesome and plenty to choose from , everything was so fresh and tasty .. scallops in garlic butter and shefish platter while my partner and his sister had the mini gastro menu , kitchen were very obliging as it was lunch time and not too busy :) you canât fault that for service the wine was really lovely :) chocolate orange fondant oh my oh my thatâs it spoilt nothing else will come close now amazing food and waiters were friendly and not overbearing ... This is the first Seafood Restaurant that Iâve been to where you can actually say everything was cooked as it should be it was delicious:) People say itâs pricey but if you want perfectly cooked food amazing setting and fabulous service this is the place to be :) :) Iâm coming back soon I promise :)Thank you so much for choosing us! Second visit and excellent again. A "proper" Italian with good atmosphere and traditional feel. Very friendly, accommodating and happy owner and staff. Also friendly customers with great pre-match chat. I was told the restaurant has been here 50 years - testament to a great restaurant. Dessert was excellent ..... a 9-0 win.

Dined here Saturday night with a friend. Having been here a few times I realised I've never written a review.... sorry!Warmly greeted and shown to our booked table, the restaurant was already busy and just got busier throughout the evening. What can I say about this place, the staff are great and were attentive the whole evening. The food is out of this world, the steak I shared with my friend just melted in our mouths. I love this restaurant, cannot recommend it enough and will most certainly be back to try other delicious items on the menu.

I Went to Popiâs With my partner, sister in law, Italians and daughters of a proud former pizzaiolo ;) along with my and 2yo little son last Saturday and I canât say enough about the place, the girls on the floor service are brilliant, so friendly and helpful. The pizza is perfect, light and tasty dough, very nice menu choices, that makes difficult to pick from, delicious.We live in London and every time we go out for a pizza or any other meal thereâs a complaint about something, ALWAYS apart from last Saturday.Thank you all and itâs such a pity you are so far from us.Thatâs amazing! To celebrate a friends birthday 12 of us visited for brunch, the restaurant helpfully contacted us in advance and suggested that rather than pre-order which is always tricky to co-ordinate that we let them choose the dishes for us. We were greeted at the door by very friendly staff member and served drinks whilst we waited for everyone to arrive. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed feel and we had 2 round tables together which allowed the conversation to flow. The food was really tasty, they choice a very wide range of dishes for us to try from delicious crispy thin pizza to fish and vegetarian options, every new dish was greeted with delight and clean plates which is always a bonus in a big group trying to please everyone. The wine flowed and our glasses were generously refilled before empty with high quality wine. Overall we were all very impressed and felt we had both had a lovely experience and great value for money.
