Buckwheat flour galette (gluten free) and salad Sweet crepe

Reviewed By Travel_addict13_10

France is definitely the place to eat crepes and galettes and this little restaurant does it perfectly. We sat outside and watched the galettes being made right across from us. We all chose something different. Some looked like a full breakfast on a galette. Mine was goat’s cheese, spinach and honey with a salad. Just so delicious! Two of us shared a desert crepe afterwards which was delicious with homemade chocolate. One of us was gluten free and while the galettes were gluten free the dessert crepes, on the menu, were not but they readily agreed to make the dessert crepe on the gluten free base. Gluten free people would be very happy. The restaurant was very busy and the service was efficient and pleasant. Definitely give this a try while in Uzes. We were surprised how inexpensive the final bill was considering we also had wine.

Le Cafe Ernest

On one of our first days in Uzès we were wandering the main road looking for a good place for lunch. The menu at le Fournil caught our eye, and the friendly owner on the sidewalk convinced us to give it a try. Glad we did. The food was delicious, and service was warm and friendly. It seems to be a family-run establishment, and popular with the locals. Of course, they were very welcoming to tourists as well, but I'm always happy to find a place that's not a tourist trap. We tried a salad, a charcuterie plate, steak frites, and Brandade de Morue, which is apparently a specialty of this region. It's a deliciously interesting concoction of potato and salt cod, with some places adding bits of chorizo/pepperoni. It sounded a bit odd but I'm so glad I tried it. It was absolutely delicious. I noticed that several other restaurants in town serve it, and some even put it on pizza. The version at Le Fournil was wonderful. The steak also was delicious. One note for Americans dining in France for the first time -- they tend to serve their beef much bloodier than we do in the USA, so if you ask for it medium it will be more like medium rare. If that makes you squeamish be clear when you order and they will happily cook it to your specifications. We went for medium rare, and it most definitely was red on the inside! And delicious. We skipped dessert but had a couple of good coffees. Would happily dine here again, and happily recommend to others.

This is a relatively new restaurant in Uzes and it is such a treat! The ambiance is lovely without being stuffy, service is perfect and the food is wonderful. Everything that we had was done well; I had a foie gras appetizer that was just amazing and my fish was cooked perfectly and served with fresh mango that made it so special. The desserts were worth the calories; we had the lemon tart and “all chocolate”. Both were delicious!!!I highly recommend this restaurant but know that you do need to make reservations.

Le 80 Jours

Reviewed By windyict

Our travels through Languedoc have included a continuing search for fine food at reasonable prices. We stumbled on Le 80 Jours in Uzes shortly after emerging from the underground car park in the heart of the town. On a street lined with sidewalk patios, we noticed the sign indicating Le 80 Jours had a Jardin. We jumped and weren’t disappointed. Small salads to start, followed by beautifully prepared Poitrine de veau brassie, sauce d’une provencal with fresh steamed green beans and a bulgar pilaf. Dessert were nougat glacé, coulis des framboises and a delectable fromage blanc aux pommes, crumble et sauce-caramel. Cafe au lait closed the meal. The garden setting was very peaceful and quiet, shielding us from the noisy chaos of the Centre Ville. A real gem.

Sadly this is a review of the service and attitude of one of the 2 brothers as opposed to the food. Even more disappointing as we couldn't get a table last year so we were eagerly awaiting this meal. We arrived on time for our booking to a cold greeting to say the least. The next comment was "Here are the menus, I assume you're all fluent in French". As it happens I am so am always pleased to be translator but any need for the bad attitude? We then asked if there was a kids menu. He pointed to the fact that they do not have one and it is stated on the menu. Fair enough but normally people offer am alternative, for example a smaller portion! His comment was that children aren't the target market...Maybe not but we are and they will be in the future, if they have one!We left and went to one of the many other excellent restaurants in Uzes with more welcoming hosts.Cher Monsieur My brother and I we thank you very much for your review of last week. However we deeply regret that your experience with les Deux Frères d’Uzès did not correspond to your expectations. There might be a misunderstanding between you and us, as our spot is first a wine cave before being a restaurant. As such, we serve a wide range of regional wines per bottle or by the glass around tapas or simple meals pairing with the selected beverages. Therefore, you might understand that we do not offer special meals for children, as they are not allowed to drink alcohol. We do hope that you have enjoyed your stay in Uzès and that you have found another restaurant which was more convenient to you and your very young child.Regards

We had a very nice dinner in the garden. The menu is small, but interesting, and very well done. The team were friendly and service spot on. I had the superb Thai tartare, not something I would normally choose, which was perfect in the heat. All food was well presented and the garden is a great setting to spend an evening. I have given it four stars because I feel the wine is expensive, as we the same wines pop up in other similar restaurants at more reasonable prices. We will be back as they said the menu changes roughly every three weeks.

The restaurant is basically outside but partly under some arches hence the name.I had the grilled St.Marcellin cheese which was a little bowl of melted cheese, followed by tuna steak served with a vegetable salsa and a little bowl of cheesey mashed potato. The tuna was perfectly cooked and was delicious. For dessert I had the banoffee pie which was tasty and surprisingly light.Excellent service and great ambience.129€ for four was good value considering the rest of the party had 6 glasses of wine amongst them

Staying in St Maximin we wanted somewhere local. We were recommended Le Tracteur but found the staff rude and unwelcoming. We should have tried L'Estanquet first! So friendly. The owners could not have been more welcoming. The food, too, lived up to the enthusiasm of the patrons. Delicious. Between us we had sea bass, rabbit, squid Niçoise and veal; all agreeing that they were wonderful. Puddings, too, were lovely. When we return to Uzès next year we shall return to L'Estanquet

This café is charming. Huge variety of salads, tartines, tartes, moules and pizzas. Service is fast and effective, waiters can have a lot of personality in an aggressive but not off-putting sense. Great wines and beers, good place to hang out with friends.merci pour votre venue au vieux café,et merci pour votre commentaire …… mais pour info nous n'avons pas de "moules " à la carte !un large choix de bières à la pression , en bouteilles, pour les amateurs de bonnes bières …et concernant le serveur je vais faire ma petite enquête …..bon séjour en France
