Arbequina

We lunched with a French friend and were all very happy with our meal and the service. We stuck to the fixed menu which offers limited choice but good value, and a moderately priced bottle of white. The quality of preparation and flavours of the dishes were excellent. The food here is a little bit out of the ordinary, and also good value. We have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

A small restaurant in a village on the side of a very quiet road. The appearance of the building belies the quality of the food. French cooking at it's best - simple, imaginative and very tasty. We were a group of four and between us had a good selection off the menus and had no complaints about any thing.Service was friendly and efficient.Definitely worth visiting if in the area. We would have visited a second time but they are not open every evening - check before visiting especially early in the week.

We were passing through Thuir and decided to lunch on a Sunday. Little was open and this restaurant at first seemed to lack any allure. However we chose to sit outside where à la carte and a set menu was on offer (this latter is rare on weekends). We chose the set menu and for a very reasonable price received apéritif, canapés, choice of hors d'oeuvres, main course and dessert. The place is run by a Belgian and the menu reflects this; although there are many locally flavoured dishes there is a big choice of mussels & frits as well as some Belgian specialities. Everything seemed "fait maison" and dishes were fresh and elegantly prepared for a small roadside café. Good service and friendly staff.

While visiting the Languedoc-Rousillon region of southern France, we happened upon this wonderful restaurant. The museum of art we planned to visit was not open so we ambled along winding roads in the foothills of the Pyrenees and followed signs to Castelnou, an 11th century town that is designated one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France."We stepped into the first restaurant we passed and were immediately charmed by the 2-story interior space and the friendliness of the proprietors. We were seated upstairs in a small cozy dining room near the hearth. Our meals were simple but excellent - a hearty salad for my husband and an omelet and salad for me. The meal was accompanied by crusty French bread and a bottle of crisp and delicious local white wine recommended by the hostess. This was one of those unplanned experiences that we will always have fond memories of and we look forward to a return trip.

Fantastically located restaurant in the picture postcard village of Castelnou, in the shadows of the chateau and overlooking the valley.Lunch here on sunny (but windy!) afternoon. The food was modest, not exceptional in any way. Service was fine. Prices reasonable.Would recommend for the location alone.

We were supposed to eat at the nice restaurant in a village close to Montner. It was closed at Sunday's. A helpful British lady suggested this place instead. Bingo! Nice place, good service, lovely food and (almost) affordable prices. It is easier to be awarded with a Michelin star in France but this place was worth it's.

The first time we visited this restaurant it was very windy. The staff were delightful and offered me a jumper. The food is delicious and everything tastes fabulous. They use fresh ingredients that are locally sourced. You would never find the place if you didn't know about it as it is somewhat off the beaten track.

Riberach Cave Hotel Restaurant

Reviewed By DndG

We stayed in July and ate at this Michelin starred restaurant twice. Taking full advantage of the complimentary half bottle of wine left in our hotel room I arrived slightly light headed with my wife and in time for a menu and experience not to be forgotten. We picked a 6 course menu and ate pear and mackerel; monkfish and sweetbreads; veal and shredded chicken; cheese that seemed to be aged since the time of the first empire; and for dessert chocolate, cherry tomatoes and space rocks, those little crystals that crackle in your mouth. Having polished off some rose wine, I also had a glass of red wine and having now gorged on a meal fit for Marie-Antoinette, I was also regrettably well and truly oiled. To impress the cheese waiter I exclaimed with Gallic gestures and in my best possible French how good his cheese was! He shied away discretely as my wife tried to remind herself of what exactly she saw in me when she married me. The staff could not have been kinder, nor more attentive, and the food was truly imaginative and a great experience. In our next visit, I was more reserved and we tried the five course menu. Every mouthful was wonderful. All in all, we had great fun in this restaurant, it's focus is on attentive care and amazing food, good music plays in the background and it is warm, friendly without any hint of stuffiness. It comes highly recommended even for philistines who want to expand their horizons!

Le Square

This is an old favourite of ours especially in the summer, when it is possible to sit outside at the back of the restaurant. On this occasion we were passing Ille Sur Tet on the motorway and decided to call in for lunch. We parked for free in the large central car park off the main road that runs through the town. Every time we visit there has been space in this car park. The restaurant was busy on this Friday lunch time, but there were one or two spare tables. We both had the Plat du Jour which was Entrecôte Steak, well cooked and served with a generous portion of salad and chips. Additionally we drank a small carafe of red wine along with one Coffee Gourmand. The overall bill was less than €40 which we thought to be very good value. If you are not in a rush, we would suggest a leisurely stroll around this charming town.
