Top 10 European food in Hamburg, Germany

March 13, 2020 Giuseppe Pratt

Reviews on European food in Hamburg, Germany. Second only to Berlin in size and population, the city of Hamburg is home to one of the biggest harbors in Europe. A stroll along its many waterways and canals illustrates why it has been called the "Venice of the North." Don't miss a trip to the local fish market (Fischmarkt), the Merchants District (marked by its imposing red-brick architecture), a fine dining experience along the river or a night out in the university quarter. And did we mention the Reeperbahn (red light district)? It's quite famous for its… red lights.

This was probably the best dinner I ever had. I had seen many highly decorated places, but never before have the expectations been exceeded lit at Seven Seas. I won't write about the food, s it was just for a different world in all aspects.Service was extremly attentive and friendly.Except for one bottle, we did leave the selection of the wines to the sommelier and have been extremly happy with his choices.

Thanks for the reviews, we were at the Curio almost next door when we walked to this little restaurant who looks like nothing but the food was excellent. Yes there is no menu but they will adjust to your taste. My son is difficult and was wowed but the made in house pasta, my veal was succulent, the goat salad was also excellent. Deserts were so simple and good. We travel a lot but today we found 2 gems in Hambourg, something we really did not expect. And with Prosecco etc. Under 100 euros for 4, a steal...

We hopped in a cab frustrated at not being able to find a restaurant, asking the cabbie to take us to a good restaurant district. We drove for a few minutes and he stopped right outside this tiny frontage that looked nothing like a restaurant strip.‘That is the place you want”, he said.We couldn’t read the German menu at the front, but we decided to venture in.Amazing! The part owner served us and the wine list was one of the best I have enjoyed in a long time. The food was first class flavour and taste bud enjoyment. You can walk in here and get a fine dining experience at midnight if you wanted. The owner was a fun guy, great sense of humour, and his passion for the customer experience really shone through. The 3 of us ordered different meals and rated each one highly. If you believe in something and hold that conviction, you will not fail, and Heldenplatz proved that again for me.It’s not what’s on the plate, but how they dance together, that makes a great meal. This place has all the moves.

I had a really enjoyable meal at Sagners Bistro while in Hamburg visiting the Christmas markets. Pumpkin soup to start was delicious, very flavorsome and well made, served with some bread.Mains were just wonderful, pork selection was enormous, 3 kinds of pork served with chipped potatoes and salad, goose was perfectly cooked and great to have something different. Portions were a little on the large size but we did our best to finish the plates.Wine list was good or you could order wine by the jug.Service was outstanding, the lady owner was very hospitable and welcoming. Don’t let the location put you off and do come hungry as you will leave full , very full !!

If you enjoy a good steak with some of the best service in Hamburg do yourself a favour and book this restaurant. Can recommend Estancia w/o any hesitation. We kick ourselves to finally making a point to visit this restaurant so late in our stay while in Hamburg. It was simply outstanding. The food is excellent and the service is 2nd to none. There are simply no faults, except maybe they can get busy, but that's what reservations are for. Vielen danke!

Four of us dined here based upon reading the TA reviews. The menu is quite limited which is an observation, not a criticism. On a plus point, the service is excellent and cannot be faulted. The homemade breads were a nice touch. The complementary amuse bouche of serano ham and melon with a broken bread stick was a bit disappointing. My chosen meal though.... it was average at best! I selected the fish soup with the large crouton and rouille (€9.5) - it was possibly the worst fish soup I have ever eaten. Very watery, more like a broth, and literally didn’t have any chunks of fish in it. This is usually my favourite starter and one that I usually always pick at french bistros. My main course was the whole sea bream with pea risotto (€26.5). As the menu said, it was a whole unfilleted grilled bream served with a side bowl of risotto and a few dressed leaves. I naively thought it might have been fillets laid on top of a risotto bed. It was okay, nothing special though. The 3 rating is because the other guests did enjoy their meals, otherwise it would have been lower from my perspective. I just didn’t think the food was good enough so wouldn’t recommend or return here.

My expectation was very high since I knew already this restaurant from a visit back in 2017.Everything went very smooth through the small menu until the meat.I did mention to the sommeiler that I wanted a glas of red with the meat coirse and he completely forgot. Once the meat was on the table I did not solicit the red wine since I would have eaten cold meat. In a 2* restaurant this should not happy. After that, service has been slowing down and a series of mistake have been done. The 3 waiters in charge of our table disappeared for a long time, the impression was that there was a party going on in the kitchen.Ordered an espresso and did not receive the small patisserie, which btw is for sure always ready. They brought it 10' after I had already finished my espresso.I had to wait 30' and solicit twice to receive the check.I did remember from my last visit that the small leaflet with the dish description should be placed in an apposit envelope and asked for that, the waiters did not do it.Overall over 3 hours and a half for the small menu is way too much.We left with a bitter taste because we felt abandoned. Should not happen in a restaurant where a dinner for 2 costs over 500€.Dear guest,Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Haerlin Restaurant. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. At Fairmont, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. Please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future.Sincerely,Leonie WeberDirector of Marketing & Communications

Excellent restaurant! Brilliant, stunningly beautiful dishes served in a new and modern, stylish room with wonderful ambience, excellent service from waiters, sommelier and the chef Matteo Ferrantino himself presenting the evenings adventure in food-wonderland. The quality is definitely at a two Michelin-star level Michelin standard, not just one. Even for an expensive gourmet restaurant, it’s affordable. You can choose between three menus: The four, five or six course Market menu, the eight course Emotion menu or vegetarian Garten menu – plus a lot of sweet surprises including an extra dessert not advertised (and it was made in heaven!!).The wine menu was excellent set against the menu, not necessarily the very best wines but in excellent harmony with the dishes. It was quite outstanding. This is top value for your money. We loved it. A must!Dear Mr. Jes,thank you so much for your kind words. We are really happy that you left our restaurant with such a positive impression. We are always trying to create a special and memorizing evening for all our guests and it sounds like we did for you. We are also really delighted to hear that you appreciated the different menu choices as well as our service and wine-parring. It is very important to us that each part of the Bianc-experience is close to perfect and all these influence the way our guests experience our food and the restaurant in general. We hope to welcome you back in our restaurant as soon as possible and that we will be able to create a different, but equally satisfying experience for you.Best and kind regards Your Bianc-Team

What an incredible experience, from start to finish. We were greeted at the entrance by none other than, Chef Fehling ;)Really don’t know where to start, this is the first restaurant and overall experience that is so difficult to describe. You just have to experience it if you are a fan of very creative food from, taste, texture and presentation. Most people I know would probably not appreciate what is being presented here, especially when the cost is factored in.The dishes that were presented were incredibly original and creative. Service was outstanding. The ambience of the dining space works incredibly well for being so simple. It was therapeutic watching Chef Fehling and his team do their craft.Hamburg is lucky to have such a place. If you are looking for a unique experience, do not miss trying to get a reservation here.

Our waitress was a young lady (sorry, didn't see the name) which was extremely accommodating and friendly throughout the entire evening. Wonderful smile and personality as well as a great knowledge about their food and drinks. She truly made this evening special. Food is fantastic, great mix of different dishes that are tasty and creative without being too pretentious. Would highly recommend and would be fore sure a regular customer at this restaurant if living in Hamburg.Dear Flyawayy, thank you for your visit and your review.I'm glad that you liked our food, our service and our wine selection.I'm looking forward to welcome you again at your next visit to Hamburg.Kind regardsMaximilian WilmRestaurantmanager & Sommelier
