Famagusta /ˌfæməˈɡʊstə, ˌfɑː-/ (Greek: Αμμόχωστος locally [aˈmːoxostos]; Turkish: Mağusa [mɑˈɰusɑ], or Gazimağusa [gɑːzimɑˈɰusɑ]) is a city on the east coast of Cyprus. It is located east of Nicosia and possesses the deepest harbour of the island. During the medieval period (especially under the maritime republics of Genoa and Venice), Famagusta was the island's most important port city and a gateway to trade with the ports of the Levant, from where the Silk Road merchants carried their goods to Western Europe. The old walled city and parts of the modern town presently fall within the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Gazimağusa District, of which it is the capital. It is also notable as the birthplace of the eponymous hero of the Renaissance proto-novel Fortunatus.

We were given the option of seeing St Nikolaos Cathedral, finding somewhere to eat and making our own way around the city. I decided to give the cathedral a miss and eat. Famagusta is in Turkish controlled Cyprus and a concern for me was being left with a quantity of Turkish currency.They have this worked out however, since the chap who approached me had various options for â¬7 lunches and he was prepared to give me change in euros. This seemed to be the pattern in most shops and so no concerns there. Having agreed to sit outside in the sunshine, I then experienced the very competitive nature of other cafe owners who wanted to 'steal' my custom. I had already agreed and had a decent chicken wrap, chips and a coke. This was very acceptable for a quick snack but I am sure there are far better restaurants, time was against a search however.

We visited for a light lunch during a tour from Paphos. We sat outside and took in the sites and the people. The kebabs were delicious and served with very thin pitta bread and a fresh salad. The service was a bit chaotic but friendly and helpful. Recommended

On a trip into Famagusta from our hotel in Bafra when we came across this not so little cafe. Very different from all the others in the town, offering delicious cake to go with a much needed coffee. We both tried the chocolate cake along with an iced coffee. Canât fault the coffee and cake and the service was brilliant. Would thoroughly recommend and will go again.

Gloria Jeanâs is a very popular Coffee Shop and when you pay a visit you can see why. Nice friendly welcome in a very well designed and thought out building. Comfortable and Spotlessly Clean with Seating both Inside and Outside. Good Menu Selection of both Hot & Cold Coffees and all at a reasonable price.

We have really enjoyed our visits to this place over the past few years but this visit has changed everything, I'm afraid. We were seated inside despite there being seats outside and given menus. We had to send two meals back because it had been heated up inadequately and the server did not seem surprised when we told her. The servers were not particularly friendly and we were handed our bill before we had a chance to ask for dessert, coffee or anything else, which under the circumstances, should may have been complimentary due to the cold food. I will be surprised if we go back

Visited this beautiful restaurant one evening during a drive into farmagusta. The decor inside is truly stunning but we sat out the front which was also equally as inviting with the lovely setting and candles etc. The food was brilliant the best we had eaten during our stay in cyprus we normally go to Turkey every summer but this year fancied a change and we didnt like it half as much and the food everywhere in protaras was extremely poor and frozen crap! This place was so refreshing and it was the first meal we enjoyed during our 2 week stay, could tell we were in the turkish side! Much better food and much nicer people! Special shout out to ali and sheriff both of which really made our evening and were so welcoming friendly and attentive we will return one day only this time we would rather stay in the Turkish northern side

Very hard to find anywhere serving strictly vegan food on this side of the north of the island but this place was good. We had lentil soup followed by quinoa patties and salad that had avocado and walnuts in it. Lovely freshly squeezed juices too including pomegranate. We also had a lovely fresh fruit platter for dessert. Meal for two, three courses and booze was £25 in total. The restaurant is in the new town near the big mosque so the area isnât very charming but the food was good.

We came across the Canes whilst out walking the lovely boardwalk between Protaras & Pernera. The first time we just stopped for drinks (Leon & a gorgeous ice cream frappe) but decided that the place was so lovely that we would return for lunch another time. There are lots of different seating zones to the place so you can chill out on a comfy seat or sofa and relax with a drink watching the sea or sit at a table and eat a meal. The first time we visited was a local bank holiday so it was a joy to see local families enjoy their time together. There's a kiddies play area and ice cream parlor too! Facilities were clean. We would definitely return to Canes next time we visit the area!

This restaurant is a lovely place to eat dinner. Staff are very friendly and attentive and are there if you need them for anything. Lots of choice on the menu we ordered pasta and steak. Both were cooked lovely. Will definitely be returning
