Braunton is an English village, civil parish, ecclesiastical parish and former manor in North Devon. The village is situated 5 miles (8 km) west of Barnstaple. While not the largest village in England, it is amongst the most populous in Devon with a population at the 2011 census of 7,353 people. There are two electoral wards (East and West). Their joint population at the above census was 8,218. Within the parish is the fertile, low-lying Braunton Great Field, which adjoins the undulating Braunton Burrows, the Core Area in North Devon Biosphere Reserve, the largest psammosere (sand dune system) in England. It confronts the Atlantic Ocean at the west of the parish at the large beach of Saunton Sands, one of the South West's international-standard surfing beaches.

Bay Brasserie Bar

Nestled within the Woolacombe Bay Hotel you will find The Bay Brasserie & Bar, the more relaxed of our two restaurants. Spacious and stylish yet seriously relaxed, The Bay Brasserie is the place to sit back, share a toast with friends and treat your taste

We visited for dinner on our last but one night during a week stop in Woolacombe and wish we had come earlier, so that we could have squeezed in another visit. We loved the atmosphere. The main dining room was lovely, airy and spacious which was a great contrast to some of the packed pubs and restaurants we had visited during the week. The service was fantastic, with all staff being formal yet polite and friendly. The quality of food was excellent. I had the pork belly, which was delicious and plentiful, and the duck carpaccio salad, which was tasty - although a small detail the fresh raspberries we're missing as described in the menu which was a slight disappointment. The childrens meals we're also great, it took a lot of willpower not to eat my daughters fish fingers - freshly made with huge chunks of flaky white fish and crispy batter - no Captain Birdseye here!Deserts we're also delicious. My only constructive feedback would be around the portion sizes of the children's menu which just seemed massively inconsistent. The fishfinger meal was huge, it would have served an adult - this was for our toddler so was way too much, which we're not complaining about. However the tagliatelle our 9 year old picked from the children's menu, whilst tasty, was a really small portion. Considering the main ingredient is as cheap as chips (well pasta) it wouldn't have hurt to increase the portion size here. The waiter recommended bringing the childrens meals out with our starters - the logic being that they usually take forever to eat their meals. However on this occasion the tagliatelle was polished off in about 5 minutes there was that little of it, before we had even finished our starters, so our daughter was sat bored and still hungry - we ended up ordering her an additional garlic bread, which we had to ask for again and this eventually turned up after about 25 minutes.Likewise the childrens deserts - our eldest's sticky toffee pudding was reduced in size, whilst the Eton mess our toddler had was huge and most of it went to waste.Again this is just constructive feedback as overall we really enjoyed our evening and the food. It was very reasonably priced too, pretty much in line with some of the local pubs in the village but much better quality.

We were in Barnstaple for a couple of days and wanted somewhere nice to eat, and preferably an independent establishment. We came across Clayton and the Glasshouse of a side street. We were quite late for lunch but impressed with the choices which included several fish options and a ‘chefs choice’. The food was really tasty and served with a nice selection of well cooked veg. The wine we ordered was lovely. Service was great, nice friendly staff who offered to show us the amazing roof terrace, lots of glass, a covered and open area, we will go back just to eat upstairs! All in all we really enjoyed this place and so happy to find somewhere that wasn’t your same old chain food!Thank you for your review! In August in Croyde, every restaurant should be packed out and this one wasn't. It's a shame as the service was friendly and efficient and the food was decent. The lamb with roast potatoes and vegetables was very tasty. The whitebait starters were great. It's seems little more expensive than the neighbouring restaurants and it's hard to justify the extra because they are good too (if you can get a table) . It also lacks atmosphere because it is quite empty even though it's small. It would be great for a romantic twosome on a special date but that isn't what's happening in Croyde in August.

Mel and I come to Memories whenever we travel down to see my mother who lives locally. As usual, last night's visit was excellent, the main course 'special' was locally-caught fish cooked perfectly. As always, a friendly reception with good atmosphere. We were lucky, as we phoned to book earlier in the week and the restaurant was full, however, Naomi remembered our enquiry and called back when there had been cancellation, to offer us a table. The 'review' from 'good food hero' does not reflect my experience.

Valentines set evening meal very reasonably priced three course meal. Quirky clean and nice surroundings let down only by toilets which were old fashioned and with roller towels ! thought they went out with the ark for very good hygienic reasons? Also towel in mens' had come to the end. The amuse bouche was very tasty, the starters ( a mixed tray) looked very attractive and were pleasant but a little bland. The main courses ( beef and lamb) were tasty but the pannacotta was very bland and topped with messy uninteresting meringue. The cheese board was superb. The staff were friendly. Overall the atmosphere in the side room was like a library. Not our cup of tea sadly but maybe of interest to those who particularly like vegan.
