Top 10 Concerts & Shows in Sants-Montjuíc, Catalonia

June 27, 2021 Misti Hsu

Barcelona feels a bit surreal – appropriate, since Salvador Dali spent time here and Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed several of the city’s buildings. Stepping into Gaudí’s Church of the Sacred Family is a bit like falling through the looking glass - a journey that you can continue with a visit to Park Güell. Sip sangria at a sidewalk café in Las Ramblas while watching flamboyant street performers, then create your own moveable feast by floating from tapas bar to tapas bar.

It was truly amazing to watch BIG in action. I couldn’t believe at times how they could weave together stories and situations all based on spur-of-the moment audience suggestions. It seemed like a scripted comedy that generated huge laughs. Well done! I just loved the Tinta Roja venue as well (which I assume was once an old movie theatre). An intimate bar full of character with cosy candlelit corners...perfect for a drink after the show!

El Tablao de Carmen

The Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, born in 1913 in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro which then existed in what is today Barcelona's Olympic Village. Carmen Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the site which is today the Tablao de Carmen at the inauguration of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. The Tablao offers a top quality pure flamenco show, a direct descendant of the tradition. It dynamically presents several of the most important palos or styles of flamenco so that the spectator can get to know the richness and variety of this art form. It also highlights its different forms of expression: instrumental, vocal and dance.

Right in the Spanish village. You should come here 1-2 hours earlier just to have time to walk around Spanish village itself, it has nice places, very Spanish atmosphere, decorated corners for amazing pictures. The best option is to make Montjuic trip during the day time, and then Spanish village, and at the very end inimitable Flamenco dances. I recommend to take as a menu only tacos, full dinner will be too much, they have big portions, very generous place. I had a birthday, so it was very good surprise when the dancers congratulated me from stage after performance, very sweet of them, I was deeply touched.

I know this is a place to review the venue and not the performance, but I just want to say that it's nice to see such a commentary on globalization and economics in a performance art installation/ performance. The venue was able to handle great sound and lighting and the place holds about 400 seats.
