Top 10 Concerts & Shows in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna

October 6, 2021 Alice Mieles

While crowds of tourists fill Venice, Florence and Rome, Bologna remains relatively quiet in comparison. This medieval university town is charming, historic and fun to explore… and you'll find Bologna's local cuisine is light-years away from the American deli meat bearing the city's name.

A beautiful room, and the portraits and statues look down and watch. Galen, Hippocrates and others. There is a peace and solemness, as you sit where students watched and learned, centuries ago.

Teatro Comunale di Bologna

Reviewed By MuscoviteVT - Moscow, Russia

I had very good tickets to Bologna Opera for May 2020, stalls, but, as you know, nothing came of it because of coronavirus. I ventured then into Rai Opera & Ballet collection – great thanks to them, by the way, one only needs to register and then you can enjoy the whole collection free of charge, moreover, no time limit! So I went there and found Verdi’s ‘Ernani’, and it turned out to be a truly outstanding production! Not only the voices were great, which is all the more remarkable, as the singers do not appear to be Internationally acclaimed, apart from Feruccio Furlanetto the names did not say much to me. The stage settings and costumes looked no less richly tailored than in the Metropolitan where I watched and heard the same opera just a week ago, if not more, it was very interesting to compare. I genuinely enjoyed the performance, and now I am trying to figure out how I can visit the Opera theatre in Bologna off-line. Vivaticket, the company selling tickets to most events in the country, not only theatre, even football, had sent me a voucher valid 18 months. It looks like a long time, but in reality it isn’t. To start with, the pandemic is not yet over, and God only knows when it will be. Then there is the Shengen visa, not such a headache as its UK counterpart, but still, a lot of paperwork required, and quite some money, too. Last but not least, I initially planned a trip to Milan with a day outing to Bologna; how I am going to combine the two now I don’t have the slightest idea. Well, looks like I’ll have to choose a title and fly to Bologna just for an opera overnight, as music connoisseurs do... P.S. The images supplied are screenshots, I thought you may want to see how how it looked onstage. Again, after three months of online performance from the best concert houses of the world I was very, very impressed!
